John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Hehe I dont think they would go THAT far. As it stands now, he would actually be the team's emergency catcher if the other 2 were hurt in a single game. I almost want that to happen just to see it TBH

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 The thought and hopes and dreams of a contender well exceeded the actual ability of the team. I loved the idea of it, hated the execution of it especially in retrospect. I probably should have hated it right from the start, but like I said I fell in love with the idea of a contender. Funny how you fell in love with the instant contender last year at the expense of depth, but you're now arguing against a trade for Stanton for the same thing you fell in love with. I partially blame Ricciardi for this. Years and years of him bitching about lack of payroll brainwashed me into believing it was true. Same thing with the prior regime with Interbrew although I don't recall Ash being the crybaby I think it was Beeston or someone else. Lack of payroll has never been the problem. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have never been the problem. The problem is in the mirror for Ricciardi, AA, Beeston, Rogers and all us sucker fans who for one glorious month in December 2012 believed it could be true. The key is not be a sucker, and to be patient. You're pretty much putting yourself in every casual fans shoes of every team. Who no matter how f***ing s*** their team is every year, there's that glimmer of hope that gums their brain up into thinking..... we have a chance. Just be thankful that the Raptors are surprisingly good in a shithole division and the Leafs are at least no longer terrible. hopefully that means Toronto is no longer the worst sports city overall. Would you expect the Raptors current team to replicate what they're doing next year? Fluke teams aren't something you should be hitching yourself to.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Reyes on getting a full season to play with Lawrie to his right. "I don't know what the #bluejays were thinking, trying to move him to 2B." My thoughts at the time of the move was either a) the Jays are in trade talks to acquire a 3B and are experimenting to see how Lawrie handles 2B. a team inquired about Lawrie in trade, who was looking for him to play 2B. And with the Jays FO knowing the year was a write off, played him at 2B to show him off.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 This is not a fantasy team where you can shuffle your guys around all you want to fit in the best offensive lineup. The marginal pick up on offense is lost with poorer defense Defensively: Lawrie > Bautista at 3B Goins probably > Lawrie at second, at least until he gets some games under his belt Bautista vs Gose???? Not sure. If this was CF there would be some pick up there. But you need a different skill set for RF. Maybe move Gose to CF and have Rasmus and Cabrera throw to bullseyes at the plate from RF and whoever does less terrible takes the job. But my preference would be to leave as is. Bautista only moves to 3B in a desperation attempt to avoid having two of Kawasaki/Goins/Izturis in the lineup once Reyes or Lawrie goes down. Ya duh its not a fantasy team which is why I said "on paper" Gose RF, Bats 3B, and Lawrie 2B is only a slight downgrade defensively but major offensive upgrade without Goins in there, and Lawrie doesn't have walls to run into for sure we will see that alignment from time to time, unless Drew is signed

Wasn't Bautista at 3B around the same time for a few games?

Not really thread worthy since all have been discussed extensively. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-can-toronto-do-to-fix-that-second-base-problem/ That was posted in another thread. It's a pretty depressing article. All the trade scenarios fall apart because the Jays don't really have any depth to trade from.
