What home grown Jays players were you wrong about? Who disappointed you the most?

Holy s***, he was 35th on BA's preseason top-100 after that season. I didn't remember that.

McGowan was on that list as well. He has to be considered a dissapointment too even though it's largely due to circumstances beyond his control.

Josh Phelps, looked so good in his first year

Kelvim Escobar, had a decent career but didn't really put it together as a Jay

Robinzon Diaz, probably shouldn't have expected anything from him but I did, can't complain about him netting Bautista though

Alex Gonzalez, good shortstop but he dissapointed with the bat

Travis Snider, obviously

Escobar did have a decent career, but it just didn't match his stuff. That guy had ace potential, but just couldn't stay focused throughout the entire game (hence the reason he kept bouncing to the pen). If I remember right, 95 to 97mph and a devastating splitter.

Will never forget Drabek's debut in Baltimore... Curve was nasty.

Then he morphed into this erratic cutter throwing idiot.

I still believe tho.

Oh come on..... I remember that game, he was all over the place and Baltimore was swinging at all his junk that wasn't even close to the zone. You could tell either nerves got the best of him or he just wasn't able to command his pitches.

Beat you to it.

Snider has to be it for me , Had really high hopes for him ...He just cant seem to put it together

If Drabek can with stand a season with out a major injury and emotionally get control of him self then he still can be a very good option and a fixture in the starting rotation

as far as 1993 call ups I think that was the year Rob Butler came up and had a great September, showed a bunch of hustle and hit a few doubles I think, but never amounted to anything else

Jonathon Fernandez (although I enjoy watching him here in Barrie)

Hard to be disappointed by someone you should have had zero expectations of. On a Baycats sidenote I just recently turned down the thirdbase coach job with them (tough to call it a job when it's unpaid I suppose)

Alex Gonzalez was one for me...number 4 prospect in all of baseball and a winning smile. Of course I predicted multiple MVP's for Snider. Felipe Lopez was another I was super high on.

I agree zero true expectations, but when they drafted him a second time, thought maybe there was some raw skills or something there, and thought he would be a fan favorite cause of his dad

Alex Anthopolous - Had superstar silent ninja written all over him. Now he's looking up to be as good as Harold Ballard. Okay - I'll be fair - no one is THAT bad but...

Too much weight based on the previous season.

Sil Campusano, Glen Allen Hill & "Smelly Shittin'" Mark Whiten

If were going to go back that far, I'll say Nelson Liriano. I thought he would lead the league in stolen bases. I was dissapointed when the Blue Jays traded him and committed to Manny Lee but it turns out neither was anything special.

Formal request to rename this thread "Grant Land" or "Grant's Prospect Graveyard", something to that effect.

Watching the video of the Snider HRs was pretty devastating, not just for me but for Lunch Boxes everywhere.

I didn't see this name here yet and I'm kind of surprised:

Billy Koch

f***in guy was the hardest throwing pitcher this team has ever had (I think) and three up-and-down years as closer and Hinske was all the Jays could get out of him. Honestly he should be disappointed in himself more than anyone else should be in him...blew a great potential career.

King, your f***ing psychopaths escaped the prison, please return the bots to the Kalfus thread.

brenden kalfus in three years - a lot of us think this will happen. kal has proven he can hit from both sides of the plate. and he will only get better as the pitchers get better and are around the plate more often.

I'm going to pro-actively add Brayden Kalfus to this list for the younger posters here.

You said the K word and they came running.

Not my fault!

Formal request to dock King five thanks for every Kalfus related incident....

Kal from the right side last year... .234/.327/.319.

Kal away from Nat Bailey last year .218/.282/.336

I don't mind the fandom, have fun with cheering him along but at least stop pretending he hit at all after June last year.

Goins looks like Babe Ruth next to this kid. I still don't get what's up with the obsession over him? Family member of someone here or something?

Half his thanks must be from Kalfus.

God damnit.

Kalfus also hit .321 at home with a .268 ave. following his college season where he hit .381. Jose Bautista's first season in the pro's in 2004 saw him hit .204 with a 47.1% k rate. Did you knock Bautista? A lot of think Kalfus will be great for the Blue Jays. We just want the Jays to win and get to the playoffs for the first time in over twenty years.

Solid response. Go Blue Jays and away with the hate!

My own fault for throw bait out for the Kalfish.

First off lets stop pretending the Kalfus won the NCAA D1 batting title. He had the 26th best batting average in college. Jason Radwan hit .409 in his senior year with the Bonnies and he's now an assistant coach. Rob Dickinson batted .334 for his college career at VMI, including .399 his senior year when Kalfus hit .381, didn't get drafted and is now out of baseball.

You want a direct historical example? Mark Teahen at St. Mary's .412/.493/.624 (as a junior). He went to Vancouver that year and went .404/.454/.526.

My point is that there are players that hit .381 in college and it doesn't mean anything at all. Enjoy cheering him...but stop spreading lies about his accomplishments. Know your facts
