Smokey Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Hand is up:) No doubt a classic "in the hypothetical scenario that Wallace could put up 2006 Lyle Overbay numbers.. many teams would be happy to have him as DH and occasional 1b fill in.. he wont do worse than E5 at 1b.. If I was small market non-competing team.. factoring salaries, I would try my luck with Wallace this year as DH and 1b fill-in over E5. Again, I haven't seen recent scouting reports and I dont know what kind of progess Wallace made over the off-season.. but if he made strides, I would take him over E5.. a guy that hasnt had .800 OPS season since like 2006 and habitually has dreadful splits and slumps.. E5 obviously is what he is.. " Yup, definitely a classic! hahaha

I just admitted the other day how bad I whiffed on Edwin.. but for all the people that said they didn't.. show me the "Edwin DFA's by Oak" thread and see how many people talked about how stupid they were to do it.. Hindsight is always 20/15.. Yup, definitely a classic! hahaha I f***ed up that quote.. As far as Wallace goes.. I just mentioned his ceiling as a hypothetical possibility.. which was in line with a lot of write-ups.. Grant was the one on record championing him as a special bat..lol
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 I do believe Grant compared his swing to Barry Bonds and A-Rod.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I do believe Grant compared his swing to Barry Bonds and A-Rod. I really liked the swing too. At least I was right in hating Gose. I'm batting .500 on that trade.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 To be fair some of those pitches were nasty. Just realized his batting stance reminds me of Snider.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Considering there's kids on here, it might attract a prison cell too lol. And children haven't figured it out on their own????

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Terrible plate discipline. Most of those pitches Wallace swung at were balls, no matter how nasty the pitches were.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Terrible plate discipline. Most of those pitches Wallace swung at were balls, no matter how nasty the pitches were. Could have the greatest swing in the world but won't help if he can't recognizes pitches.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Wallace has Quad-A player written all over him.. I can't see anybody claiming him. We'll have to wait and see on what Gose does with regular playing time to evaluate the trade. How does a guy who was a 1st rounder, picked 13th, which Wallace was, end up being such a bust? He hit .300 in AAA, yet can't even hit MLB pitching regularly.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Odd. I wonder if that's a decision admin made deliberately? He did it deliberately and gave a reason for it... something to do with fear that NSFW vids will be posted in this section of the forum (keeps it clean for the people at work) I think.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 How does a guy who was a 1st rounder, picked 13th, which Wallace was, end up being such a bust? 13 is actually one of the all time best draft spots for production (ManRam, Tanana, Templeton, Konerko, Nolan, A. Hill, Sale) but you also have: Grant Green, Beau Mills, Ty Colvin, Brandon Snyder, Shawn Boyd, Mike Paradis, J.M. Gold, Kyle Peterson, Rob Stratton, Matt Drews and Chad McConnell.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Grant Green shouldn't be written off yet. The rest of those players after Green were definite busts.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 The Astros have released Brett Wallace.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 The Astros have released Brett Wallace. If he can't get on the Astros team, who else would take him? Bummer.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 So we could have Wallace AND Gose? AA's legendary patience pays off!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 So we could have Wallace AND Gose? We certainly could. It's too bad he can't play 3B or hit or really do anything useful on a baseball field. At least Gose should be able to cut it as a defensive replacement.
