Slot Machine Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 So maybe in 15-20 years they will hire him as the GM and/or President just because he is Canadian. And he will take us to the promise land because on a completely unrelated note, he actually knows his s***. I'll be patiently waiting.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 He looks even handsomer after reading that. Handsome, best 1B, can speak in 4 different languages and siber-guy............damn, he's so sexy!! If for obligation I need to choose a prison cellmate, Votto would be my first choice.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Every other player should take note. I really doubt that it's his appreciation of statistics that drives his performance; rather, his performance is enhanced by his intelligence, which in turn results in an appreciation of statistics. Saying "every other player should take note" is basically saying every other player should be smarter. Certain executives should be taking note though.

LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 BTS - Rays Bat boy or Bat oldman I guess that makes King Assistant Bat boy? Tough luck, should have hitched your wagon to a faster horse
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Understanding the game can change your approach. I totally agree with that sentiment, but to say that understanding a measure of performance will increase performance is a stretch.

LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 He never said that it will increase performance, he said "Every other player should take note". Yeah and all players ought to be concerned with is their on-field performance.

Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Jays : RBI, HR, SB, AVG Votto : wRC+ Let's give the front office a little more credit. They dive way deeper than that. With the biggest and best scouting network ever assembled, I think it looks something like this: 10*speed + 5*power + 3*glove + .1*hit + 35*vetrinpresentz = win!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Can I replace Buck Martinez?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Which they can improve by understanding the game. If JPA understood that walks were good and Ks were bad, he'd improve a fair amount. I would doubt it, subconsciously players are what they are after years of practice & repetition. Plus talent to do those things have to be present.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 The best guys based on wRC (weighted runs created) are: Miguel Cabrera 192 Mike Trout 176 Chris Davis 167 Jayson Werth 160 Joey Votto 156 (EE is 14th at 145, Bautista is 26th at 134) And a trade might be a good idea for him, even with all the runs he creates, as that contract is going to become an albatross for a small market team like the Reds, who lack the funds to bring in guys to help drive those runs in.. especially with Brandon Phillips set to decline and Bruce getting expensive and unlikely to resign in Cincy when he hits free agency. Also remember they had Shin Soo-Choo last year to help.. Billy Hamilton is a HUGE downgrade, even with all his speed. And there are no bats on the way on the farm.. trades and their winning have drained their system. If Votto were on the Jays, he'd be much more appreciated, because we have the bats to help drive in all the runs he creates. Plus we have the money to surround him with talent.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Votto can cheer all he wants about wRC+.. but it's his responsibility to drive in runs. With Choo gone, the Reds lineup faces serious regression, and Billy Hamilton will have to hit in other to replace Choo's loss. No wonder the PECOTA rankings have the Reds missing the playoffs. Cincy didn't give him that big contract to just draw BBs all the time.. they expect him to hit 30/100 every year, especially in that hitter's haven of Great American Ballpark.
