SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I love it. I ended up hating that guy after having such high hopes at first. f***en lo vista. Embarrassing!
SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd prefer him to Goins. I'll take goins D over boni's.....ah, um, nothing I guess.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Whats the going rate for a .600 OPS player who can run, has no position, run, not throw, run, not hit and run? Apparently what you do is offer to pay him 3.5M and then suddenly change your mind and try to get rid of him. LOL
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd prefer him to Goins. I actually wouldn't, because in no way is Bonifacio a passable infielder.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 He did make a few spectacular plays, I'll give him that. But he was atrocious over all.
sdyment Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'm guessing some sort of scandal is about to break... Ang, you got your ear to the ground...?
SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Too bad his speed doesn't translate to base stealing, he could be our new rajai at league minimum. How was his out field D? I can't remember. Even if it was good, I don't want lo vista back!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Actually looking at his D stats at 2nd last year. 4.3 runs lost form errors, but 4.4 runs from getting balls that normal guys couldn't. DRS had him at plus 10 runs at 2nd last year. Several major league teams have assessed him as being inadequate at the position, you should probably go with that over DRS.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 My poor memory has him aweful at trying to steal last year? But before that he was good. I'm probably wrong and biased towards hating him now.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 That damn smirk he had when he made an error or just plain sucked, is what pissed me off the most about him
SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 30 SB and 3 CS the year before. You made my lazy ass look up last year. 28sb, caught 8....and somehow worth 1.3 WAR over the year. Don't try talking me into him at league min, I still hate him.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 The Jays have Gose and Reyes. Bonafacio is redundant and his skill set of speed and nothing else is not hard to acquire from other players. Despite having FOUR guys with 40+ SB threat last year, they didn't use speed properly. That's a function of having a poor OBP so not enough guys on in the first place, and poor use of the speed asset when you did have an opportunity (ie Lind gets on in the 6th, you have Rajai pinch run for him and hit going forward because that's when the lefty relievers start to come). So adding more speed to this team is a complete waste.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 He's a 1 win player with a bit of sell high potential. s***** team like Houston should be all over him for 3 mil. They can probably get him lots of reps between 3b and the corner outfield spots, and if he plays well they can try to work him into some sort of midseason package to a contender. Kansas City is f***ing weird. Must have a maxed out payroll, only explanation.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Royals Designate Emilio Bonifacio For Assignment By*Charlie Wilmoth*[February 1 at 10:57am CST] The Royals have designated infielder*Emilio Bonifacio*for assignment, according to a team release. The move clears space on the Royals' roster for*Bruce Chen. Bonifacio, who will be 29 in April, hit .243/.295/.331 in 461 plate appearances divided between the Royals and Blue Jays in 2013. In mid-January, the Royals*agreed*to a one-year, $3.5MM deal with him to avoid arbitration, so it comes as a surprise that they would designate him for assignment two weeks later. Chen's $3MM salary essentially replaces Bonifacio's $3.5MM, and arbitration contracts are not guaranteed, so the decision to designate Bonifacio may have been a matter of making room for Chen in the Royals' budget. The Royals could well trade Bonifacio in the next ten days.*Pedro Ciriaco*could pick up playing time as a utility infielder in Bonifacio's place.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Speed is not about just stealing bases. I used the "40+ SB threat last year" as a proxy to mean the team had a lot of speed.

Typical...player is awful for the jays and much better elsewhere......
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Boni has 17.5 runs from running the bases (not SB and CS) and 11 runs from SB in his career. But if he hits like s*** and the team is more concerned with BP specialization than having a deep bench, there's really not much use for him. I'm sure Gose can develop into that level of player on the basepaths with superior defensive skill so he's redundant.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 MIN and CIN seem like logical destinations. He`s a very poorly utilized player and I`d like to see him do well.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 It's the Jeter problem but in reverse. Our eyes tell us he's s*** due to his errors, but he makes up for it with his range and is an average or just below average fielder at 2nd. So Goins > Bonafacio on defense...and on offense who knows, its probably a wash but at least Goins has a chance at proving himself. And Drew > better than all of them so perhaps he needs to be the first target over everyone. I'm just not sure why you're dead set on bringing back a mediocre player whose time was poisoned here. Unless that's not what you're saying and you're just trying to prove he wasn't as bad as people think and nothing more.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 It's the Jeter problem but in reverse. Our eyes tell us he's s*** due to his errors, but he makes up for it with his range and is an average or just below average fielder at 2nd. Oh I'd rather Drew. I don't want to bring him back, just pointing out he's not as bad as our eyes made us remember. It`s a perceptual bias, a product of the mind rather than the eyes that causes this fallacy. Visual information actually supports your point.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Actually looking at his D stats at 2nd last year. 4.3 runs lost form errors, but 4.4 runs from getting balls that normal guys couldn't. DRS had him at plus 10 runs at 2nd last year. The numbers have spoken, lets bring him back.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I know I'll be a minority here because those 4.3 runs from errors is what people actually see and remember, not that he was good at getting to balls. So you were trumpeting his defence last year when it was/wasn't happening?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Several major league teams have assessed him as being inadequate at the position, you should probably go with that over DRS. I'm waiting for the newest Breaking Blue article to be penned on how beneficial it would be for the Jays to bring Bonifacio back. The man is a future f***ing HOF'er.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 He did pretty well for KC in his time there. Not sure why the DFA.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd prefer him to Goins. http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/mindblown.gif
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 I'd prefer him to Goins. Borderline bannable suggestion But I know what you mean. They are both flawed players.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Bonifacio is pretty much Rajai Davis in the field. They both f***ing suck at baseball....fielding for this discussion. But their speed makes up for their complete lack of fundamentals. I want guys who don't have to improvise using their speed to not actually be f***ing horrible thanks. OMG, did you see Rajai scale the wall and bring that HR ball back....never been done. That makes up for the dozens of other routine balls he made me sweat on.......don't f***ing think so.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Didn't say I wanted him back lol. Just said he's likely average or just below average at 2nd. Our minds fool us with biased information (ala Jeter) or are you someone who thinks Jeter was actually good defensively? His lack of fundamentals playing any position for me = below average. As for Jeter, he's an intelligent fielder. Skills were way overblown due to the NY hype machine + his solid offensive contributions over lengthy period of time + his fancy, unnecessary jump throws.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 The odds of Goins ever posting a 2.8 WAR season are roughly equal to that of CHP winning best poster award. Although the odds of Boni doing it again aren't much better lol
