eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I feel like if his 4.26 ERA closer resembled his 3.55 FIP / 3.67 xFIP he'd already have a home. Is he considered an injury risk? 2011 and 2012 were both pretty healthy years. 1/5 Get it done AA.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Just freaking sign him. Get him and Ubaldo or Ervin and that's a contender. It's not that hard AA.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Baker, Drew, Capuano and Ubaldo
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Capuano, Burnett, Jim Inez, Santana available and prices dropping. Protected first round pick. If he doesn't get one of these guys it's a massive fail

If I hear Shi Davidi talk about AA playing "the waiting game" one more time I might punch a hole in my wall. Pathetic offseason so far.

If he doesn't get one of these guys it's a massive fail I think you need to get Ubaldo because of the potential value. If you do then signing Drew is a no-brainer. And Cap on a one year deal is ideal. Some upside, and you don't owe him anything if he doesn't pitch well. You can move on to Stroman if you don't like what you see out of Cap and you don't have to worry about him bitching next year. Dickey Ubaldo Morrow MB Cap that's at least an OK rotation with at least a few capable backups for the inevitable injuries. Other than MB that rotation is pretty damn cheap too.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Capuano, Ubaldo and Baker, isn't out of reach. Come on AA

I think Morrow if healthy should get the Dickey effect boost, but maybe thats a bad idea because he only has 1 more option year after this, don't want to set him up too much for a big pay day. But I'd like to see Morrow pitch well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Tanaka and Cano deals notwithstanding, GM's have for the most part been real tight asses this off season. Most years all these guys would prob have jobs by now. The draft pick I suppose is a big part of it for Jimenez and Santana. Lack of available SP and TV money be damned - these guys might all settle for well less than they thought they'd get.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Minnesota makes complete sense for him. Suppresses HR's for lefties and they don't even have one in the rotation right now unless Scott Diamond recovers. Could assure him a trade to contender with a good start too.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Yanks: Ellsbury, McCann, Beltran, Tanaka..........and Jays fans praying for Ubaldo and Baker
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 he'd be a great add, even though he's probably a 1-2 war guy. Capuano + ******************** as the 4/5 guys. The other two to the pen as the 6/7 guys. S T R O M A N hdmh cap filler foe
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 What are peoples thoughts on the old 'break a guy into the majors in the BP' thing? It doesn't work that well for us with a over-stocked BP, but would it be better to let Stroman start in AAA, or get some experience against MLB batters in the BP? We're going to have injuries in the rotation (every one does), Stroman could bounce back and forth if necessary. And if he takes the job and runs with it when he is starting, all the better.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Stroman/Hutch/Nolin/Drabek in AAA as the 8-11 starters is exactly the depth AA should be striving for. I know, I'm just overexcited to see him I suspect he will start in Buffalo and force their hand some time during the season Small chance he's too good in ST to leave him behind
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Honestly - how excited will this place get when Stoman gets his first major league start? Whenever that is, this place will go nuts.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Pitchers don't want to sign here, we play in a hitters park in a monster division.

What, they don't want to face the Chris Davis/Evan Longoria/Dustin Pedroias all the time? Yeah I can't blame them... Of course, they don't have to face the two headed monster of JB/EE if they come here.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 If we sign Ubaldo/Santana/etc. I don't know if there is a need for Capuano other than for depth as I'm not convinced he'll be any better than Happ this upcoming season. But if we don't sign one of the top remaining FA's, then Capuano would be a fallback option.

Santana 3-4 years

Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I can't handle that I really can't Me either, but at least we'll be out of it by mid-May, and I'll probably not even care about a thing other than watching Hutch/Stroman pitch, and the trade deadline for the next "5 year plan"

I don't think you start a prospect off in the pen in April, but I think it's a fantastic way to do it in the second half of the season.
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 From interviews I have seen Gibbons has mentioned many times they like Happ and they see him in the starting rotation. I don't see AA signing capuano because I don't think he is that much of an upgrade over Happ. IMO AA will sign one of Santana/Jimenez and go with that. 1.Dickey 2.Jimenez/Santana 3.Buerhle 4.Morrow 5.Happ Redmond/Rogers/Hutch/Drabek/ Stroman all depth
