Brenner Verified Member Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 If true it is a little disappointing, I liked Rasmus and thought he turned a corner this year. I was hoping for an extension but if AA felt it out and thought it wasn't going to happen then moving him is the right thing to do. It does leave our OF really thin if Gose becomes the starter.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Turns out Jays were courting Hudson, or the other way around. Tony_Rasmus_IV @FlorenceFalcon0 13m @dshemie8 @BlueJaysFacts like I've stated before, Tim Hudson is a family friend and he asked Colby about Toronto. But chose San Fran .... Yeah. I remember that. Pretty sure it was posted here. In hindsight - Hudson would look pretty good in our rotation right about now.

Rasmus is my favourite Bluejay. Saying that - we would be selling high. I guess it depends on the return.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Hudson would have looked very nice in the rotation.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I'm speculating that your speculation, is not worthy of Tony Rasmus speculating that Colby's word is better to speculate on, it's common sense, speculatively speaking. It would seem we are speculating on the degree or level of inference Colby or his Dad came to based on degree to which AA may have inferred the likelihood of him getting traded....so in essence we are belabouring a point on which we are not entirely that far apart on...but speculatively speaking anyone posts 300 times a day...is more than likely to respond to this post....it seems like quite rational.

You're selling a one year contract on a guy who's had some injury issues....not sure the returns are going to be that great. I would rather keep and extend rasmus...but maybe he's asking too much.

I would rather keep and extend rasmus...but maybe he's asking too much. Um. Yeah...."selling high" would factor in the fact that he has 1 year left of control and is coming off a monster season. Not sure what injury issues you're talking about. Rasmus is pretty durable.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Injury issues? I don't know if I'm forgetting about an injury (possibly), but he's consistently played between around 145-155 games per year since 2009, except for 2013 when he missed time because he got hit in the head with a ball running out onto the field. Ftr he played in 129 in '11, when he had a pretty bad injury after we acquired him, I think it was his wrist.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Any player on a team looking to add a position which you don't play, heading into the last year of their contract, should be prepared to be traded. Good chance that pulling out of the tour is a result of poor negotiations.

Not sure what injury issues you're talking about. Rasmus is pretty durable. I would label Rasmus injury prone....but he played 118 games last year..he was on the DL a couple of different times...he had oblique issues and in 2011 when he first came to us he was on the dl at the end of the season. He's not jose Reyes by any stretch...but then he's hasn't been Robinson Cano who's played a min of 159 game or more for the last 6 or 7 years. Rasmus missed all of his time in the second half....if you look at his splits he's always had great stats in the first half and poor stats in the second half....he didn't hardly play in the second half so his 118 game season isn't perhaps so monster like as one would think. He also had two sub par seasons prior to this. He has one year on his contract. I'm not sure there is as much value as one would think....I'm just playing devils advocate throwing out what other GMs would say...they would say he played 118 games...if he had played 150+games his numbers would have dwindled down like they always do. I personally think Colby made some fundamental changes and improved his game.......If I were AA, I would be saying....ahh..he hit the DL due to a rib injury..and then he got hit in the head and now has a concussion under his belt....he had two tough years in a row prior to last...but last year he only played 118..it wasn't even a full season....I would be pressing on those things with his agent trying to drive the price down...because I do like the player and I would want to extend him at the right price..
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Huh? You sound like me when I'm pissed to the gills Fail . I'm shocked you feel you are 100% correct... complete win...you won...hurray...maybe you can go say hi to your wife for a change now..lol
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 What is this........I don't even..... Toerag alert. me dumb dumb...you so smrt.....I mean smart....please educate dumb dumb on all things baseball...why don't we start with the tanaka posting...how does that work again..
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 That was uncalled for, meat yeah...for a guy like spanky who shows nothing but complete deference to all on the boards and never attacks anyone....I was completely out of line..lol
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Cue the Colby Rasmus trade proposal posts. Rasmus and Cecil for Bailey and Billy Hamilton
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I'm not speculating. I'm using my brain. It's all about context of words. I'm not speculating guys I'm just connecting the dots bahahaha
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Are you drunk? lol....I have had a couple drinks...but all I'm doing is taking some shots at spanky after he took some at me. I'm not an idiot...for that matter I don't think Spanky is either, but he enjoys trying to make people feel stupid, he's one self assured individual. I don't post this way when talking with others...most things are subjective and people disagree....but in spanky's world he's always right. I can't say I'm not strong in my convictions either, but I typically state my opinions..I don't try belittle people....this was one exception I'm making only because of who it's directed at.....I'll refrain from further posts in this thread if it's offending you though...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Sheeeeeeit I'm drunk, he's just a retard. Butthurt from the old board. There's plenty where they come from. I already capitulated....I said I was a retard..you're the King....ooops....King is the King...but you're such a brilliant man....I envy you...I wish I could be you spanky...you're spankolitious...

I'm sure he told the whole team to be prepared for trades, it's pretty obvious AA is allergic to the FA market and is shipping guys out in a matter of time.

I don't think AA needs to say it. These guys know what's said in the traditional and social media (especially Colby who let it get to him in St. Louis). I think that Colby not going on this trip is a bad thing though, just has nothing to do with a trade.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Colby likes Toronto, this isn't normal, how about we just let this remain a mystery.

Ya, I;d want to know how the sudden scheduling conflict came about given that he's known he would be involved with the event since before the season ended. Seems like Rasmus is as good as gone.

Seems like Rasmus is as good as gone. I doubt it. The Jays aren't in a position to trade Colby, I'd honestly rather trade Bautista, still don't see either of them moved, their both core pieces.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I doubt it. The Jays aren't in a position to trade Colby Expand? Colby is quite possibly the most expendable asset with impact value that AA has.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Rasmus and Cecil for Bailey and Billy Hamilton Billy Hamilton ceiling - Pinch runner
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Hamilton would be the solution to the MIF problem that AA can't seem to fix.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I'm still not sure what the Cardinals hated about Tony? Colby being a Blue Jay has made me believe all the B.S I heard about La Russa. Much like any early 90's Jays fan I hated the A's. Knowing La Russa was as full of it, as I always thought he was, makes me feel great. I feel bad for every Jay's fan who didn't see Alomar's pennant winning HR against Eckersley...truly the proudest moment in the history of this team. It's impossible to express how I felt that evening. I hope you all experience that same feeling one day. I promise you no prospect, scouting report or stat will ever come between you and that moment.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Expand? Colby is quite possibly the most expendable asset with impact value that AA has. Why because we have Anthony Gose? How about this, you explain to me why Colby's expendable.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Because he is streaky/unreliable, his trade value is likely to be at an all time high and there are a couple of very viable replacements in the system.
