G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 An article about d'Arnaud recently, includes some GIFs of his awful defense.. CATCH the dang ball, don't just try to frame it! Is it a wonder he has 12 PBs and gives up a ton of stolen bases? http://www.amazinavenue.com/2014/8/27/6044493/mets-travis-darnaud-pitch-blocking-framing Looks like the move to the outfield may have been necessary even if the concussions and catcher position risk weren't an issue
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I'm a former catcher, and I tell you that he's awful (Article Gif) Aren't you like 5'9 and 160 lbs?

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Montero went into the stands because he was getting heckled hard by a Mariners scout. That ain't a typo http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/29/mariners-scout-heckles-jesus-montero-montero-tries-to-go-after-him-with-a-bat/ The incident was kicked off when the scout yelled at Montero to hustle off the field after an inning, yelling “Rapido! Rapido!” Then the scout ordered an ice cream sandwich and had it sent to Montero in the dugout, which one assumes was a dig at his weight issues That scout should be fired
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 5'10" and 170 lbs Small for a catcher yes?

They need to get that kid up to the majors where he won't be subjected to heckling. That scout is just a bully... we don't tolerate bullies.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Scout should be fired, Montero should be released. But mostly because he's bad at baseball.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 How do you turn down an ice cream sandwich?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 How do you turn down an ice cream sandwich? I would of took a bite then throw it at the scout.

Reading it right now, thought I would post because it mentions the jays AAA team in Vegas 2010. Also: I wonder if the NHL has studied into the baseball team about whether the NHL would work in that market or not
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I wonder if the NHL has studied into the baseball team about whether the NHL would work in that market or not They will likely have to go gimmicky and hockey fans will think it's shameful, but anything in Vegas can work if given the right venue. The new arena is so close to the strip, I guarantee you that MGM (who own the arena) can make sure that it's sold out every game and attended...by comping tickets. I don't think having players and coaches in Vegas will be any more of an issue as football players in New Orleans. The LV Wranglers average 4,500 fans for an ECHL team (as high as 5,500, low as 3900) in a less desirable market and venue. It'll work for a while.

My question though is if Vegas gets an NBA team which looks like it will happen sooner or later is how well does an NHL team do when there is 2 sports in town that are played at the same time of the year.

The NBA is a different animal...I agree it will be successful in LV and hockey will likely take a back seat

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Mookie Betts hits a grand slam off Archer. And the Rays have been butchers tonight.. 3 errors! With Betts' numbers like this and Castillo coming, we'll never see JBJ in a Red Sox uniform again after this season.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Good news for the Tigers.. Kansas City trails 4-0 to the Indians. However, the Indians are closing in.. a win and they're only 4.5 back of the division. And of course, a Tigers win and they at least stay tied with Seattle.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Them K's though. Yes, but his command is terrible, and his control is awful.. he's lucky he's playing an impatient team like the Orioles, who don't walk much. Still, he was hit around quite a bit. Deduno didn't help anything either..
Vincent Verified Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Jorge Soler is a monster. Good god Cubbies are looking good offensively next year.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 the bluejays failed to make the playoffs in Derek Jeter's illustrious 20 year career
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 the bluejays failed to make the playoffs in Derek Jeter's illustrious 20 year career Because his team made the playoffs every year in dominating fashion, making it nearly impossible for other teams to make the playoffs! Ask Orioles fans.. they didn't make the postseason for 15 years during Jeter's career! And we would've made the postseason in 1998 had there been a 2nd wild card, and 2000 if we had more pitching depth. Don't rub it in! Plus, it wasn't just Jeter, it also was Pettite, Posada, Williams, and Rivera as well, the core. Of course, late in Jeter's career, his team is looking like it'll miss the postseason in back to back years, barring a collapse of the Tigers, Mariners and A's(yes, the A's.. the A's are 14-16 in their last 30.) We all know the O's are going to win the AL East..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Crisp just suffered and injury trying to rob a HR from Chris Ianetta. Can't he ever stay healthy? Get those playoff tickets printed in LA (both AL and NL.)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 the bluejays failed to make the playoffs in Derek Jeter's illustrious 20 year career For various reasons: 1. Yankees dominance due to the core 4-5 (depending if you consider Bernie Williams a core piece) 2. Rays being a doormat in early years. 3. Jays rebuilding in 1995-97.. and the Jays would've made the playoffs in 1998 if the 2nd wild card had existed then(and would've played Boston). 4. Dominating financial resources of the Steinbrenners 5. Gord Ash's stupidity in the late 90s/early 2000s, followed by Riccardi's problems. 6. Dominance of the Yankees and Red Sox in the early 2000s. There's a lot to blame to go around.. but you have to consider what kind of teams Jeter had.
