If it were two years ago, sure. But he's only got 2 years of dedicated service time left. 1 year of a "reasonable replacement," along with two top youngsters for 2 years of elite performance is a very good haul. Perhaps it goes to Betts and Owens as the two youngsters ... but including a 3rd top youngster, if Cespedes was involved, isn't likely to happen.

About the same point they dealt Miggy and that got a pretty big haul (although admittedly that didn't work out great). Marlins have shown they will throw in parts to get the players they want. Cishek will be making $5M likely next year and should draw interest.

Good thing they have a 9 game lead in the division...

Good thing, because it could make the difference between home field advantage in a series vs. the Royals, who they are on track to face in the ALDS, with LA getting the wild card team who wins that spot(Oakland, Detroit, Seattle, Toronto or NY)

The player's union and the Commish certainly wouldn't come into play when dealing one player and getting an adequate return.

The rest of your commentary is nonsensical. The Fish have some good young pitching, but Fernandez likely isn't a factor for next year, and the only relevant youngster who is a definite SP in the bigs, in the short-term, is Heaney. Guys like Nicolino and De Sclafini are likely bullpen guys. They have Eovaldi, Cosart, Alvarez and Heaney, with guys like Koehler hanging around. They could certainly use another MLB-ready youngster.

The inclusion of a guy like Cespedes would not only allow them to remain relevant in the short-term, but also soften the blow for their large contingent of Cuban (and other Latino) fans. You're getting guys who can help out ASAP, and the majority will be there for 6 years or so.

With their issues at 2B and 3B (and, really, SS, though I'm not sure they agree), why a "power-hitting OF" would be their predominant need is only known to you. And Cespedes would fill that role, regardless.

I think their realistic time frame of competing would be the following year, actually (when Fernandez would be near full recovery and their youngsters were a bit more seasoned).

If their time frame of competing is 2016 why would they trade for Cespedes who is under control for next year? Cuban or not that would does not make sense. They aren't trading Stanton anyway.

Orioles are 5-2 since they lost Machado.

Don't forget, the Orioles don't have the pitching to compete with the Jays. And Cruz is going to regress, so that their offense will come crashing back to earth, as well.

Oh, wait ...

are you like the 'i told you so' police? honest to god every time i look at one of your posts it's always something along the lines of "x person predicted y incorrectly," followed by some sarcastic quip. you know any s*** for brains can look up old predictions and call them out, we don't need some smart ass pointing them out every time an opportunity arises

If Erik Kratz is worth 75M (lol), does that mean Jonathan Lucroy is worth 1B?

only $547m you bike

I don't think you can say that because the value they provide is going to make their pitchers value go up and cost more. And you are going to be paying more for those pitchers so in the end you are still paying that money. And I don't think you can account for pitch framing in the future because I think Umpires are coming more aware of it.

What I, the omniscient and omnipotent Moogy, thinks, is not the same as what Loria might think. So my assessment of when they want to, or expect to, compete could be different than theirs. Cespedes would be, at least, a short-term "save." And they COULD look at it as an opportunity to bring him in, extend him at less than what Stanton would demand, and get a lesser version of Stanton (that appeases fans) and also improve their team longer-term at other positions. Because they ain't not got no help neither on the (near) horizon in some spots on the field.

Most teams would rather keep Stanton than take that deal. Cespedes hasn't been the same since the 2012 season, and hasn't had an OBP above .300 since 2012.. not worth the trade.

The O's commentators were ripping Javier Baez a new one for swinging so hard, saying that he only looks for the homerun, and he'll get beat a lot by major league pitching.

Baez homers later in the AB.

Agreed. And the Marlins could contend as early as this season.. they're only 4 out of the 2nd wild card.

I always knew there was a conspiracy amongst the umps/MLB against Toronto or Canada or the Blue Jays.

So you could say the Blue Jays have lost around 93 strike-outs, not to mention having more favorable pitcher counts. That's f'n insane when you think about it.

the only conspiracy in toronto is that fat, lazy, slob behind the plate

in fairness to them baez's swing is pretty ugly

Of course it's worth the trade. You bring a very marketable player into Northern Cuba, aka Miami, and it doesn't matter that he "hasn't been the same" since 2012. He's still as productive, overall, and the fans would love him ... and you get two guys who will help you immediately, and for the next 6 years, at a cheap rate. They have nothing at some positions next year. Nada. Piles o' poo. They aren't contending like that. They aren't going to go out and buy the players on the open market, necessary to have them compete. And they're 6 losses out of the 2nd wildcard. They're just finally climbing back to .500 ball.

Now go dream up your next fake Cespedes injury.

Cespedes would be terrible in Miami in that cavernous ballpark, and I imagine Miami wants CONTROLLABLE (i.e. 5-6 years) high-upside talent in any deal, such as a Joey Gallo, Kris Bryant, Joc Pederson, etc.. and besides, Cespedes isn't doing himself any favours with a sub .300 OBP between Oakland and Boston due to a low batting average and mediocre walk rate, even with his strong defense in the OF. No way Miami takes a downgrade like that.

To those that hate pitch framing, this is what it has done for the Blue Jays this season.

Thanks for the link. That is brutal. hell we all like what the bat has done but it in NO way makes up for his brutal defense . I think if the guy came to camp in shape he might be ok but he has been run out of Tampa, and LA cause he was too lazy. Can we hope he will get in shape for next year?

So Navarro's pitch framing would improve if he got in better shape? I guess he should be in Jose Molina tip-top shape!

How is Navarro in worse shape than last year or any other year? He looks the same to me, which is to say, out of shape.

Posted
Yup, framing has nothing to do with his weight. He's just horribad at everything back there.

I remember when Zaunie took a lot of flak back there, he was our best catcher since Borders, before Borders it was Buck. Ernie had the bat, but Martinez was stellar behind the dish.

Yeah. KGM is obsessed with Navarro's weight, a fat chick probably sat on him and crushed his nuts or something 'cause that's all he comes up with. Navarro is what he is, even the F/O took a shot at him after they signed him by saying they overpaid for him...lol.

Machado heading for season-ending knee surgery. Good thing for their 8.5 game lead.. they're gonna need it, especially with a ton of AL East teams on their horizon.

Royals/Tigers are really liking this news I bet..since that's the likely opponent for the O's.

Wow thats a huge loss for them. Its too bad the Blue Jays are so far out of the division lead as if it was within 5 games there could be a decent chance to win the division.

Farrell Said that Sox are in position to focus on pitching in free agency. 'There's a clear-cut plan with the retooling of this roster'

=====================================

And agents are already raising the prices for their free agents for Boston with comments like this. They're going to have to overpay significantly to get anybody with the current mess they're in.
