Gardner on verge of signing 4-year, $52 million deal w/ Yankees. Includes 5th year club option for $12.5M or $2M buyout. Deal starts in 2015.

Good deal.. but it also shows the Yanks have no hopes on Heathcott, Williams or Austin, their OF prospects panning out due to injuries (Heathcott, Austin) or behavioural issues (Williams).

If he gets $13M/year, what does Rasmus get?

I'd probably value Gardner more this year but in future years Rasmus.

The thing about Rasmus is he can't hit lefties and shouldn't be playing everyday but will be on this Jays team. That should bring his value down as his overall numbers should suffer.

Colby Rasmus, a 103 wRC+ and 1.8 UZR/150 with a 2.8 BSR/150, doesn't deserve to play every day, but Ryan f***ing Goins does. Okay.

Great deal for Yankees. Dammit.

We don't even need Colby past this season. Let him go.

The King is on his way!

Keep this to the Kalfus foolishness thread please. Thank you.

Rasmus was terrible for two straight seasons in 2011 and 2012. That will probably matter a lot when it comes to salary negotiations.

Can you IP check the entirety of the Kalfus thread? I have a feeling there might only be 2-3 unique IPs from King, 49, and... something.

lol. I don't love this for the Yankees, although it does make sense for them. As his defense declines I'm not sure Gardner will continue being an above-average player. More of a 2-2.5 WAR stopgap, which is okay at this price.

Rasmus has a different skillset and has always played CF, so I'm not sure how much this affects him.

I just realized that Gardner is 30. I thought he was a few years younger than that. Yeah, probably just a fair deal both ways. Colby is 3 years younger, with higher peaks but much lower lows than Gardner. Gardner has been very consistent. Teams really like that obviously and are willing to pay for it.

It sucks that the season hasn't even started and Bailey and Gardner are both off the market already.

Yep, and the way GM's are extending pitchers these days it's going to get harder to buy a team and plug holes.

Hmmm, now that I say that, that might help us a bit vs BOS and NYY.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Angels are discussing a six-year contract extension with Mike Trout that would pay him in the range of $150 million.

Trout won't be eligible for arbitration until after this season, so the deal would buy out his first two years of free agency. Passan says the gap between the two sides "is in the low eight figures," but "optimism exists that it will be bridged." Trout would be only 28 after the contract runs out, giving him a chance to get an even bigger deal when he hits free agency. The outfielder batted .323/.432/.557 with 27 home runs and 33 stolen bases for the Angels last season. Feb 23 - 1:45 PM

If the Angels can do this, they get away with murder!!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Analysts seems to think that 150M / 6 years would mean that the two free agent years the Angels would be buying out would cost about 35M to 45M / year, taking into account the other years would still be arbitration years. A deal like this is probably fair for both sides.

You are right that being consistent matters. Teams want to know what kind of production they will get and like you said they will pay for that.

You are right. This is why the Jays have to develop their younger players and keep them if they are going to compete year after year.

Which is why I was particularly pissed about dealing D'Arnaud and Syndergaard. Anyway, too late now.

You popped out without anyone saying the 'K' word, isn't that against your rules?? LOL

The Blue Jays are one of only two teams in the entire MLB not to make the playoffs in over two decades. Its time to change and build a foundation - develop our farm system which is filled with talent and have the experienced players help the prospects adjust. The Jays have the talent and for the most part, we have great fans.

Sooner or later there will be ample reason for mlbprospects, switchhitter and the other whoppers to show up here without a need for rule-skirting. You just wait.

I have no problem with this, as long as they try to minimize the K-circlejerk to it's on thread, I'm actually interested in what they have to say :P
