G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Whoever popularized "shirsey" deserves a punch in the dick. Yeah that term is annoying as Hell http://shirseys.com/

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Giancarlo Stanton open to extension Updated: February 12, 2014, 12:18 PM ET ESPN.com news services Giancarlo Stanton is open to the idea of staying in South Florida, provided the Miami Marlins establish "security" in terms of keeping their other talented players. Stanton, who agreed to a $6.5 million deal last month to avoid arbitration, said in a recent interview with MLB.com that he wants to see the Marlins "going in the right direction" before considering a long-term deal. Giancarlo Stanton has 117 career home runs in just four seasons and has been the subject of frequent trade speculation. "I want some team security as well," Stanton told MLB.com. "I'm very pleased with how things panned out for me. But I would like to see [the team] grow. I have my security somewhat now. I'd like to see a team full of that." The 24-year-old Stanton, who is eligible to become a free agent after the 2016 season, said he does not expect to talk about an extension until after this upcoming season.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Someone's gonna pay him. That's for sure.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Someone's gonna pay him. That's for sure. Whoever it is, I'm betting it won't be the fish (or if it is, it'll be heavily backloaded). I think they're quite enjoying their low payroll and massive profit.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 If he stays healthy, it's going to be a disgusting pay day. Anyone hazard a guess? More than what Fielder got. 9/240 maybe?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 More than what Fielder got. 9/240 maybe? Yep, sounds about right Ladies and gentlemen, meet your 2017 starting right fielder for the New York Yankees
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) f***, dude will only be 27 when (if) he hits free agency! DAMN he gonna get paid. Edited February 12, 2014 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I'd project it to be around 10/350 at free agency. Ifs: If he's generally healthy (who knows) If there's major (as expected) salary inflation over the next 3 years (probably) If the trend continues of teams locking up stars during their arbitration years, thus limiting the free agency pool (probably) If the Yankees need a power hitting corner OF (almost certainly)

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Quick, contact the Mariners and pawn off Happ ++ for a 2nd baseman! Gose, Happ, Cecil and Nolin for Montero and Franklin....
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Or Santana! e: maybe they could have him 1B/DH on the side also? Heard they have an opening. Santana in that park isn't crazy so since this is Jack Z, the dh scenario seems more plausible.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Safeco is actually just an average park now. They moved in the walls the perfect amount. Did not realize that. I guess that means he'll pitch there.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Gose, Happ, Cecil and Nolin for Montero and Franklin.... Hard to say what the perfect fit is, and hard to say what the true talent level of Franklin is (he's a Boras guy btw, not that it matters until he reaches FA). If we trade Gose, I think we have to get a CF in return unless we plan on extending Rasmus or signing someone like Gardner (which would probably mean getting Saunders in return). The CF market is very thin next year. The price for Franklin depends on how you view his talent. He could be worth Sanchez, or Happ + Cecil + Nolin might be perfectly fine. We also don't know if Seattle is still stuck on using guys like Franklin (who still has options) as collateral for a big trade.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Why Montero? You think he can hit well enough to DH? At the very least enough to platoon with Lind and just works to add flexibility to the bench.

I really don't think he's THAT good and Sanchez's upside is tantalizing.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 At the very least enough to platoon with Lind and just works to add flexibility to the bench. A (mostly) positionless DH adds exactly what flexibility to the bench?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 A (mostly) positionless DH adds exactly what flexibility to the bench? 3rd catcher, bench bat and occasional DH. It would allow you to move Dioner in to the lineup on his day off if you wanted to (off the bench vs lefties as a Lind replacement more than likely).
bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 3rd catcher, bench bat and occasional DH. It would allow you to move Dioner in to the lineup on his day off if you wanted to (off the bench vs lefties as a Lind replacement more than likely). Sorry, but in my personal opinion a player of his talents would be a waste of a roster space on this current team. He doesn't play any position well; he plays 1st base at a below average level and his a bad catcher. He also isn't a great hitter. We don't really have a need for a pure "bench bat" as we don't play in the NL. Granted he would probably be the best 3rd catcher in baseball.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 If you think he has talent then how would acquiring him be a waste? All players have talent but we only have so many roster spots. In my opinion it would be foolish to acquire a player who can't really play any position well, and be strictly a "bench bat" or DH unless they absolutely mash (Edgar, Ortiz). You're basically using a roster space for a one dimensional player. The bench should be somewhat versatile. Just my humble opinion though.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I'm all for buying low on talented youngsters and adding a 'bench bat,' but Jesus Montero hasn't hit since 2010 (which is longer ago than you think -- three full seasons have passed) and really doesn't have a position. He can't catch.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 He can hit lefties though.
