Again, the point you're trying to make is completely muddled.

Steamer's projections are their best guess at ranking players based on talent. Their guess and reality obviously differ but it still represents something more accurate than whatever any of our guts tell us.

I get that Nox and you'll find no disagreements from me in that. The issue is that it isn't a ranking system, it's a way to minimize risks, understand aging curves and help predict run contributions. When you try to have player specific baseball discussions and the argument always comes back to Steamer projections (and it's only because it's listed on Fangraphs) it gets old very fast.

Explain exactly why you can't rank players based on a projection system. It seems like you're suggesting that you can't rank things that don't have a deterministic value and that doesn't make sense.

A couple of more things:

1) you don't need a projection system at all to understand aging curves.

2) Projections are basically irrelevant in modern risk analysis. The only things that can seriously harm a franchise are things you can't predict.

I see what you're saying now. Sure it's a rank but, it's wrong often enough to be inconsequential.

1) I said it can help, especially if you want specific numbers.

2) Not true at all. Steamer is irrelevant but corporations are always trying to assess and project risk.

I feel like you know alot less about this than you think.

Meh, I'm learning. It's not what I went to school for and something I pursue as a personal interest. I know I'm not a senior risk analyst and don't pretend to be.

I just read the last two pages and you guys are managing to argue without even really disagreeing on anything.

I'm not even trying to argue BTS. I'd love if Nox would shed some insight, he's being abrasive today for whatever reason. I respect his opinion too much to get in to it with him.

They are the same person...f*** Dogg Is back!!

s***.. I just realized Dogg has been MIA. Wonder what the secret was to make him understand he wasnt liked.. So it can be used again when hes inevitably back.

Also DDG and Nox should just butt jam each other and get it over with:)

He's already brushed off my advances Connorp. It's looking like the only jam my butt will be seeing in the near future is Smuckers.

I mean Nox, you're clearly an idiot. You're bad and you should feel bad.

I can't believe how little is happening this month so far. It's crazy. Blame the Tanaka goings on I suppose.

There's definitely gotta be a few players getting a little uncomfortable right now.

The Mariners are close to a deal with free agent catcher John Buck, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Buck, 33, is represented by the ACES agency.

I saw him December 31th in the church. "I'm focused on my career. I just want to play baseball" lol Kiko is mad.

If he keeps this up, he may have to be the first baseball player to defect TO Cuba to play.

He has serious behavior problems.

Nyjer Morgan is close to a deal with an MLB team, 6-8 teams are interested

I heard it's a package deal, they get him, plus they'll also get Tony Plush.

Why?!?!

To be fair he's a solid CF defender and has 2 seasons he has eclipsed 3 WAR. I'd take a shot on him if it didn't cost much.

But he's such an idiot

And we already have a cheap all glove CF...

For such a mediocre player, he has an enormous ego.

There should be an "easily replaceable" in there too.

Burns is a hard read, always a bit old, but not too much for his level until the last half of last season, and he showed well in the AFL. Bit of a defensive mystery as to where he'll play since he's not playing 3B as long as Lawrie is around, no chance at SS if he's already playing 3b in the minors, but maybe they really try him at 2B this year and see if he can cut it defensively.

Here's a Q&A with him from fangraphs from early December 2013
