For a two seamer it is 35% speed and 65% movement.

I am planning on doing every pitch, but have only done these two so far.

I was so close on that one. 2% off.

I wouldn't have guessed it to be that low. This kind of dampens the "straight fastball" narrative that seems to come out every time the BABIP gods decide to f*** with someone.

After his comments about Josh Johnson, this pretty much proved Kirksaw's entire life a lie, lol.

I was thinking that, but I didn't want to bring it up because I like kirksaw despite his bouts with insanity.

His "insider information" is always entertaining and worth a chuckle.

As do I. Shame he hasn't been posting much lately. Can't say I blame him considering the state of this team.

Now instead of a mildly embarrassing 5k posts, people will think I'm an all-out multiple-account 16K post freakshow. Thanks King.

How many posts were you at on the old board?

This is one off for a cutter. So far:

Pitch Speed/Movement

4seamer: 98/2

2seamer: 35/65

Cutter: 64/36

This is pretty interesting. I'm curious to see what the curveball will come in at (I'll guess 24-76).

By this method, best cutters from 2008-2012:

Mariano Rivera

Roy Halladay

Jon Lester

Heh, now there's a list no one would ever have picked (rolls eyes).

Percentages are interesting on the 4-seam. I've always felt that pitchers shouldn't limit themselves to one kind of fastball. Use the 4 seam high, sinker low, 2 seam and cutter in.

Haven't done that yet but well see!

Will be interesting to see how you come up with numbers on a change up, considering speed is very important, but its importance is tied to how much slower it is than the pitcher's fastball.

Have to be willing/able to throw all pitches in multiple locations or a pitcher would be way too predictable.

ESPN wrote a piece about defense in the AL for 2014. Jays getting some favor by replacing Bonizturis with Goins and Kawasaki(if he makes the 25 man). Kratz/Navarro is considered a wash.

Also says that Yankees will be putting in Brendan Ryan as a defensive replacement a lot late in games, as neither Jeter or Nunez are competent at SS anymore(Jeter) or ever(Nunez).

Orioles are still dependent on the health of Manny Machado. Boston aren't expected to see much change defensively, although it will depend on Bogaerts at SS instead of Drew, who seems bound for the Mets.

Rays of course will be better with Hanigan at C instead of Molina/Lobaton.

If you're mixing up the different kinds of fastballs, I'm not sure you would have to. You'd just have to stay unpredictable with overall pitch selection between the fastball (all kinds) and off-speed stuff.

I was going through some old magazines when i found sportsnet mlb preview that has Melky, Reyes, Joey B, Lawrie and JP on it.

I don't know how to post images but if someone could post it. Melky looks 30 lbs lighter then what he was playing at during the season. It's f***ing weird.

The other night, I was watching the 2013 Home Opener on MLBTV, and it was hilarious. I suggest everyone watch like the first 30-45 mins. All the optimism and buzz generated for the season. Buck and Pat's commentary were hilarious. Just watching it knowing the season was a disaster made it entertaining.

I could never put myself through that again.

Yeah it was bad enough in person.

I wasn't at that game but I was there for the return of Farrell...that didn't go much better.

As was I. I don't know what it was, but that just gave me a huge sense of impending doom about JJ.

Movement calcs for sliders were tricky, but I think I got it all worked out now.

31% speed, 69% movement for a slider.

Best sliders 2008-2012 (min 200 IP)

Jose Mijares

Dana Eveland

Daniel Bard

Jeremy Affeldt

Sergio Romo

"Best sliders" seems a bit dubious, depending on how you're calculating that. Eveland doesn't even a positive PitchFX pitch value on his slider, career.

At least Houston won't be blowing saves as much and losing 40 games because of their bullpen in 2014.. they also brought in Qualls and Albers as well this winter so far.
