GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Kenny Wilson (CF) Andy Burns (3B) Marcus Stroman (SP) A.J. Jimenez © Sean Nolin (RP John Stilson (RP) These are the prospects from the minors that could see time with the Jays in 2014 -I don't really see it with Wilson. He's injury prone, 24, posted a 100 wRC+ at AA, and never really dominated a level aside from an odd 130 PA at Single A. -Burns is a good one but would be most useful at 2nd. -#ReleasetheStroman -I dunno how much of an upgrade Jimenez could be expected to be over Navarro. -Nolin is an SP lol -Stilson's not gonna make a real impact even if he does excel.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 You forgot Goins "prospects from the minors" Those guys are gonna start in the minors. Goins is probably gonna start in the major (kill me f***ing now). He didn't forget about him, as much as I'm sure we'd all love to forget about Goins
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I meant SP obviously for Nolin. Wilson is on the 40 man, and he is a prospect (not a highly touted one), he will see time with the team in 2014. I think they were trying Burns at 2B a few games last year? Not sure if anything ever came from it though. You can pick apart the prospects themselves, how good how bad they are, how much of an upgrade they would really be, but I was just posting that those all have a chance to play at the MLB level in 2014. You say that with such certainty, I wouldn't exactly guarantee that an overaged injury prone OF coming off of an average season in AA will perform well enough in AAA to get a cup of coffee in the show. September, maybe, but beyond that? It'll probably take a few injuries. Idk why Burns is at 3B. I guess they think Goins is enough at 2B and they'll need a replacement for Lawrie at some point. Still don't see it with Wilson.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 He will see time in September when we are out of the playoff hunt Picturing the upcoming September is really depressing
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Has to be Sanchez. I'm pulling for Stroman, but I think many people here need a history lesson. Betting on guys to break 100+ year trends is a foolish endeavor. Short pitchers with high effort deliveries do not and never have succeeded in the major leagues as starters. They are wild, homer prone, and extreme injury risks. Pedro Martinez wasn't successful ? He was skinnier than stroman, and maybe a tad taller, not considered a big guy by any stretch of the imagination. So it has happened, and true they are the exception to the rule.
Caper Verified Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Remember for future polls that Ramon Ortiz graduated into the big club last year, so he is no longer eligible.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 top prospect is not the player in the system with the highest potential ceiling. it is the the player who is closest to being a top impact player in the Major league team. Stroman could walk onto the mound the first game of the year and be one of the teams best starters. Sanchez is probably 2 years away. come on peeps....be real
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Around Baseball locked. Looking at online users, both Chappy and hurl are currently viewing the thread. Looks like my report did something, lol. That thread was my baby. Please go die.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 By that logic, he's a better prospect than Byron Buxton too. It's a combination of ceiling and the probability of reaching it.

Heck, even all the big publications and people within them have different opinions. That's now Nay ends up #3 on one list and not even top 10 on another

Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 One of the most appealing things about Sanchez is his sound mechanics, big body, and easy velocity... When he started landing more upright (post shoulder issue) he started getting some weird arm drag. I'd say he has some issues, it's also what folks like Law were mentioning during his AFL time.
leaffie Verified Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 There is an excellent article on espn right now about the success of prospects. You don't have to be an inside. It is under Sweet spot. I can't seem to post it.

That's now Nay ends up #3 on one list and not even top 10 on another I know there are some pundits who blow rainbows out of a unicorn's ass with prospect projection and use projection to "subjectively" rank the prospects. when it comes to the jays, the more time a player has to spend in the minors, the greater the chance they get screwed up. If we had the Rays farm system I would put more stock in long distance projections. Jays system washes out more ball players than any of us want to know about.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Fun fact: Matt Dermody's uncle posts on this website.
