GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Blah blah blah no one gives a s*** So, um, is anyone else gonna notice his avatar or are we just gonna let that slide?
fireballW Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Guys not wanting to play on the turf is a real thing. Whether right or wrong they probably believe it is a career shortener. There is a reason well beyond just fan experience that Rogers is planning to move to an all grass field. For an aging infielder like Infante I could imagine him just not wanting to play here being a factor.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 So, um, is anyone else gonna notice his avatar or are we just gonna let that slide? Noticed it right away. The friendless munchkin is getting bold seeing as how the mods are getting lax these days. Time for a new board again soon.

There is a reason well beyond just fan experience that Rogers is planning to move to an all grass field. For an aging infielder like Infante I could imagine him just not wanting to play here being a factor. This is another reason why Ellis just seems like a much more realistic target. He's already 36, he's not thinking about saving himself for the future. He just wants another paycheck. It's always a fallacy to play mind reader with free agents but I just can't see why he wouldn't sign with the Jays if they offered him what he's seeking. Maybe it will happen once AA shuffles some payroll around.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Adding 3-5 more wins may not get them out of 5th place in the division, regardless of Cleveland Steamer's completely meaningless projections. No of course not but should the team just throw up its arms? There are ways to improve the product on the field without making long term sacrifices and that should be the first priority. If you're not in full-on rebuild mode (and clearly this team isn't) then you should at least be making whatever moves you can to round out your roster and improve your chances. Breakthrough seasons can always happen, even in the A.L. East.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Royals "Very Close" To Deal With Omar Infante
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Phillips, Franklin, Ackley or Ellis come on down!
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Goins is the starting second basemen buddy. A blue jay lineup cant not have someone with a <.250 OBP.
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Royals "Very Close" To Deal With Omar Infante 4/30.... 7.5 per are you kidding
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 wow we couldn't offer that? or a bit more?
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 4/35? He just got 4/30. AA let one go asduming he wasnt told he wasn't coming here
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 He just got 4/30. AA let one go asduming he wasnt told he wasn't coming here Quite possible he just didn't want to come here
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 4 years at $30 million (if true) is a great signing.
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Quite possible he just didn't want to come here What the fuq's so attractive about KC? Doesn't add up to me
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Meh.......s*** happens. Ellis or Espinosa would be cool. Ellis sure for a short term, not sure about Espinosa though, is he healthy?.. at this point anyone but izturis though
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Meh.......s*** happens. Ellis or Espinosa would be cool. Espinosa in 2011 and 2012 averaged higher than 3 WAR. He'd be the best fit here in my opinion, especially based on the cost to acquire him.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 4 years at $30 million (if true) is a great signing. A contract that was actually less than I thought. Nice!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 A contract that was actually less than I thought. Nice! There was no way Infante was getting 4/$40 million. I just couldn't see a team dishing that out for him. Scutaro's deal signed a couple years ago with the Giants was the benchmark for Infante in my opinion.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Ellis sure for a short term, not sure about Espinosa though.. at this point anyone but izturis though Espinosa had a 3.2 WAR in 2011 and 3.4 WAR in 2012. In my opinion, he'd be a better option than Infante.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 wow we couldn't offer that? or a bit more? who says we didnt?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 who says we didnt? Why I also posted maybe we did and he just didn't want to come here If we did, that's annoying

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 this offseason just makes me angrier by the day
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Holy f***. I don't like criticizing a GM for moves not made, but if AA didn't offer Infante at least 4/40 he didn't do his job. f***. This is exactly what I've been harping on about so much, Infante was never going to cost more than 4/32. Unless Infante was a douche to negotiate with, or just flat out didn't want to come here, it's just retarded that this opportunity wasn't seized.
Brenner Verified Member Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Definitely would have been a nice deal for the jays considering our utter lack of anything at 2b. Infante might be an average 2b in the league but $7.5 pays him accordingly, and 4 years is not killer either especially since we don't have anyone knocking on the door. I was expecting him to get overpaid at $10 mil, and at that point I would rather trade for cheaper/younger options. But @ $7.5 without giving up any assets this is a no brainer. Even if we had to kick in an extra $1 mil a year to make up for tax differences or whatever it would have been fine, I am sure we all could have lived with anything under $9x4.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 f***, this was the exact player AA should have targeted and he even signed for less than what anybody thought.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 He dissed the Jays folks, there's no reason for the Jays to let this pass, IMO. Feelings>winning.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Numbers in AAA were horrifying, and on a .324 BABIP: .216/.280/.286 in 313 PA Before his injury, he was a rising young talent. There is value to be had with him. He posted a 3.2 WAR and 3.4 WAR in 2011 and 2012 respectively. He's young, has pop, speed and is sound defensively. Having hit 8th or 9th in the Jays lineup doesn't hurt the offense at all. Everyone on here is fapping for Dustin Ackley and most posters on here were praising Omar Infante and how the Jays should sign him at $40 + million! Give me a healthy Espinosa (2011 & 2012) anytime over Omar Infante.
