Even though he kinda meets the criteria, I don't think so. The whole body of work for me just doesn't get it done, there's other exclusions right now who are more deserving.

I agree he's definitely on that dreaded "grey area" of being hard to say. There are a lot of hitters that deserve to be in before him at the moment, for sure.

Regardless, the Hall is a joke so we really shouldn't care about it.

Him being perceived as a nice and hardworking guy throughout the end of the steroid era might help him though.

I would say if he won a WS that he would be a lock, but nothing is too flashy on his line. However I do think he was one of the most dominating pitchers for the generation. He did not strike a lot of guys out because he always put the ball on the ground. I don't take the HOF too seriously now anymore anyways.

Can you imagine how irrelevant the NFL, NBA & NHL HOF's are. Seeing as MLB has the best.

Well I think the fans and media need to readjust expectations for what justifies a spot in the hall.

I think we still use the arbitrary figures such as 500 homers, 3K strikeouts, 300 wins. But those kind of numbers, especially for pitchers, are just not attainable anymore.

Halladay feels like a hall of famer, and I believe he should get in. But knowing how stubborn voters are, I don't think he can get in.

Yeah, 300 wins today is probably unrealistic, but I agree that Halladay "feels" like a HOF. As much as my heart wants him in the hall, I question if the lack of longevity in the game makes him deserve it. Does him being one of the game's elite pitchers over the last 10 years make up for it?

Another way of looking at this though could be that Halladay has more career fWAR than Alomar. B-R lists him as 136th overall in career WAR.

B-Ref's Hall of Fame stats (HOF Monitor, Black Ink, etc.) think he's in too. He was a definitive ace for a 10 year period and did the extra ace stuff (67 career CG) that the old-school voters will like. I definitively think he's in and this one-day gesture cements that will go in as a Blue Jay.

None of those hall votes are for sale on the internet, or keep out the leader in the most intrinsic stat of all time.

Too bad it had to end early but it makes sense that he doesn't want to continue if he can't compete at a high level. Farewell to a Blue Jay legend and one of the best pitchers of this generation.

I agree. But when the others are inducting mediocre players its lost its relevancy already. In the future they can't say, well you really weren't that good, so we're removing you from the HOF...its too late.

I'd rather Bonds be kept out and hold ultra tight standards than inducting junk players in, just to make players feel good about themselves.

I also believe there's a group talk of the MLB voters beforehand determining what they're gonna do. So the retarded votes like BJ Surhoff can happen because it doesn't really affect the outcome the voters determined beforehand.

I wasn't even talking about Bonds I was talking about Rose haha.

But I agree, for the most part with what you are saying. No hall is perfect, or even close, let's leave it at that.

To add to Ang if anyone knows where you could find a modern age complete games list I would love to see where Doc Ranks. Those pitchers in 1900's are stupid to compare too lol.

Shame it would have to end like this.

Always felt his work ethic allowed him to work into his 40s

Guess he won't make the HOF.

I disagree completely. If he's not a first ballot HOF, they should shut the place down.

Anyone think part of the reason he broke down young is that he worked himself too hard during his prime?

Would be a cruel and ironic twist of fate.

I will say, Doc was absolutely dominant when he was on top. Only guy in the same conversation as him during his period of dominance was Johan Santana and he didn't do it as long as Halladay. Something that I can't stand is guys who hang around forever being average to above average for a long time and getting consideration. IMO Halladay was the best pitcher of his era and that's enough for him to be an easy choice for me.

Halladay was like a damn hero to me... I don't think there will be another pitcher (or player for that fact) who was such a great representation of the city and team. Phenomenal player and a really respectable dude off the field. As a kid, he was the only player that when I saw on the field, I knew a W was almost-always in the bag. I'm happy that he's retiring on his own terms (kinda) and as a Jay! I hope they retire his number.

Amaro, AA and Ricciardi in the same place at same time

Agreed, I'm a big baseball fan thanks to Halladay

Same. Was too young to really remember the 92-93 glory years so Halladay was a hero of mine during the 2000s.

Amazing career and easily one of the classiest athletes this franchise has ever had.
