AA at the winter meetings

Alex seems to always be fairly busy and active during the meetings, what possible moves do you guys see AA making this week? I think he makes a deal for a starting pitcher (either shark,Anderson or dare I say it price) and hopefully signs a 2B (Ellis, Infante)

These are the most obvious choices but If I had to pick one that he's going to trade for it will be SP. He does seem fine with Izturis and Goins at 2B, which is some garbage if I say so myself.

 

He was on the radio defending JPA just a weeks ago on the radio and still non-tendered him. AA is pretty shrewd with the media, he likes to talk up his fall back options just in case he can't pull anything off.

 

The amount of times he's talked about being ok with Izzy and Goins is a red flag that he is trying to make something happen but wants to cover his ass in case it doesn't

I don't think he can really come out and say he's not comfortable with these two without destroying whatever minuscule amount of value Goins may have, or admitting to the media his Izzy signing failed. Like Brenner said, he's just covering his ass in case he can't improve 2B.

Exactly. You can't take anything of this sort that he says at face value.

I'll say I think he'll acquire Samardzija this week.

 

And he'll also make a really minor acquisition of some no name reliever that sends everyone into a frenzy for about ten minutes. After that nobody ever mentions it again.

Regardless of what fWAR says about Maicer vs. JPA, I think he's already addressed the biggest hole at C. WAR is a great stat, but can't theoretically encompass everything, and catcher no doubt had to be addressed before anything. Just because JPA posted a higher (negative) WAR, doesn't mean he wasn't our biggest hole, IMO.

 

Anyone remember the game against the O's early in the year when I think it was Roberts (?) slapped a ball to LF in the bottom of the 9th to walk off? That's just one instance that sticks out in my mind of either a) JPA not knowing how to call a game pitchers not having faith in him to dirt a curveball, or a combination of both.

LAD would like to move one of their OF players for some pitching. We have surplus pitching to use and I wonder if there is a deal here. Puig will be an impact player for years to come and we could move Bautista to LF.
