Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 That's one of the most unsportsmanlike thing I've seen. How embarassing

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 lol @ some of those comments on the video...morons are cheering that this umpire got hurt. It's not like he's some rich jerk off, he's getting paid next to nothing to ump this nobody game. Without the umpiring crew any legitimacy this game would have would be completely out the window. Should be thankful for people like him. And even if he was a rich jerk off in MLB, that still doesn't mean this would be an appropriate action at all.

Anything less than pro ball should be thankful to have guys like him who take the time to umpire games. It's not like they're making a ton of coin.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I would like to see this happen to Cito Gaston. Someone will have to leave the broom closet door open first though.

WTF is with the hate for Cito? Alright we get it, he has these old ways that is in opposition to new age roster management and player development. He made some questionable decisions with guys like Shawn Green and Travis Snider. But he still managed the team to 2 World Series (yeah, yeah they had a ton of talent...Bobby Cox had 2 HOF starting pitchers and a third that's borderline to work with for more than a decade and only won once)...Cito gets disrespected a lot...and why wish injury on him, even if being sarcastic? It's not like he molested or killed someone, that we know of.
flafson Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I honestly don't understand why some people think that because someone is making a lot of money then it's ok to be an ass towards them. Usually how much money you make is a reflection of how successful you are in what you do and that is something that everyone should stride for in my opinion.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 None, that could potentially be extremely dangerous, bushleague s***. This pisses me off as I used to Ump quite a bit in high school and college and you don't make much and I guarantee you they have 2nd jobs and are doing this for a little extra cash. I got no respect for people like that. If that ump had got hurt there I guarantee nothing would have happened to them. Makes me sick. I can tell you right now that nobody in the MLB would do that to a umpire because they now damn well what would happen to them.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I was going to say I had a few levels and it was 50 but that was 8 years ago now not sure what the going rate is anymore. I am getting old. The nice thing about it is that after any game if there was any disputes or anything I would more likely have a coach come up to me and say they appreciate what I am doing and said I did a good job. Its part of the game to argue with umps as I have been on both sides, however that was s***.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Yup, pretty much a part time hobby to help these leagues out. Incredibly stupid to cheer something like this, I've had heated arguments with umps and tossed, after the game, we're both apologizing, "Sorry Blue, I was out of line" he answers "my bad I shouldn't have encouraged the debate/argument. You know how it is, Lafrentz. Agreed, Spanky. I've played baseball all my life and I'm just finishing up my last year of University baseball. I've always been grateful that we have guys who continue to ump us, because they enjoy it, not for the money. I don't care what the circumstances were in that game, that is one of the most cowardly acts in sports possible.

With the misogynist jokes aside, what makes it worse is that it was women. Not much he could do. If I was that umpire and this was a man's game I would have slugged that f***ing catcher, even if it was a cheap shot or kick to the back of the head. Although the pitcher was probably in on it too, we don't know for sure.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 From what I see, sound like that ump made multiple bad calls on pitches to previous batters, if you listen to the comments from the bleachers or coach. If the bases were loaded by biased calls, then he deserved not a pitch to the head..but squarely in the nuts. And what he gets paid,if anything has sweet F all to do with anything.

You think violence is the solution to the ump blowing a few calls in a f***ing game? Grow up.

So it's ok to assault someone for being bad at their job? I guess you don't mind if someone slaps you for taking too long to get them their McNuggets then.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 You guys still play in Labatt Park, that place is beautiful, loved playing there. Oh, those were the days, lol.. Haha I'm not sure where you're talking about Spanky, never played there!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 You're from London no, Lafrentz. Nope, from Saskatchewan. The butt of many jokes I read on here haha. I don't care what anyone says, watching the Riders win the Grey Cup at home, at Mosaic was an incredible sight!
admin Site Manager Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 It's funny even the crowd that was chirping him were silent. They didn't know what to say/do. It would have been okay if it was one of Spanky's 45mph heaters.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Umpire is intentionally hit by a pitch. I wonder what the reaction would've been if the ump suckered the catcher when she returned to her position?

That pitch looked pretty good, and she obviously has good control and can spot her pitches, judging from that shot between the eyes.
fapaholic Verified Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) This is the entire game here for context, I didn't watch the whole thing, but the last inning starts at about 45:00 I thought he made one bad call on a walk prior to the last one and maybe some others are debatable, but he's not a major league umpire.
