KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I would be shocked if AA doesn't either extend Rasmus or trade him. I wouldn't. AA seems more eager to acquire players close to free agency than to move them. In another organisation, he would be an obvious trade candidate. He's close to free agency, coming off a bounce back season and there's a replacement (sort of) at the ready. If the return justifies the downgrade to Gose, why not? It's not going to happen though. Jays are just going to ride it out with Rasmus and cross their fingers that they contend this year.

AA has always tried to get guys with multiple years of control for the most part. If Rasmus is in the plans for 2014, I would think AA will explore an extension, otherwise deal him off for rotation needs.

I think so too Rasmus + Janssen + a farm system arm other than Sanchez or Stroman gets you something good I would think

He is young enough that we could get the best years out of him. I would much prefer to move Bautista.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 It's very likely Rasmus has an Escobar-like devaluing around the league. I doubt Jays could get something worth moving him for.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Maybe I'm bias because I don't like him. He just comes off as a guy that will underachieve his talent
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Also I'm not saying many teams wouldnt want him..just questioning if they're going to give up their blue chip prospects for a guy like Rasmus.

I'm sure AA would have little trouble attracting significant interest for Rasmus.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 If he signs for that, I would advise him to fire his agent. Try 4 years $48M. No way he signs for $7M per on a long term deal.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 New offer Rasmus 4 years 40M guaranteed, 5 years 54M with option 2014 - 8 2015 - 10 2016 - 10 2017 - 12 2018 - 14 (2 M buyout) Honestly why would Rasmus s sign that contract?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I'm sure AA would have little trouble attracting significant interest for Rasmus. Maybe. But it's w thing that prior to 2013 he amassed 1.6 WAR in his previous 2 seasons and he does have that black eye from St.L Also he was still prone to long droughts at the plate last year, even though the season was good. Just not a guy I would ideally look to aquire and extend while giving up my top prospects. On a buy low, yeah
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Honestly why would Rasmus s sign that contract? Job security. So he doesn't have to keep proving himself. So that if he has a mediocre 2014 it won't burn him.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Job security. So he doesn't have to keep proving himself. So that if he has a mediocre 2014 it won't burn him. He's going to make ~$7M next season. He's pretty secure financially. I don't he goes that team friendly as he finally is getting close to free agency.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I hate the idea of dealing Rasmus. I think he finally figured it out last year. New stance, he seems comfortable. Guy is a potential superstar in the making if it all clicks. Man........ I didn't know there was that many superstars in baseball.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I agree with you. One year from free agency, I'd be surprised if he extends long-term. He saw BJ Upton's 5/75 contract, and is slated to be easily the most attractive OF on the market next year. Dude has to be seeing dollar signs. I would think he's more likely to be seeing cent signs...like Cletus from the Simpsons.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Jed isn't a free agent, it'd cost a decent piece to pry him from Oakland. Trading Reyes doesn't make much sense with our two-year window. Oops I swear I thought he was FA. Trading Bautista doesn't either really, especially since Reyes costs way more

Randy The Robot Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I see Rasmus signing with the Yanks. 50+ homers in that stadium...

Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 If he improves on last year, he'll be cashing in huge money. Though GSnarls has a good point in him wrapping up guaranteed money, I can certainly see AA trying to get him extended on a team friendly contract, much like he did with EE/Bautista/Romero, etc.... I don't think Rasmus has done consistantly well enough yet to command a big long term deal, certainly not as much as Vernon Wells did and his deal didn't work out very well. If we can get someone decent for him now I'd trade him and that risk goes elsewhere. If not, just play him in 2014 ( he might be a bargain for a year ), and if he leaves well good luck to him we can apply that money to someone else ( maybe even a pitcher now; not planning on Rasmus long term allows us to carry another free agent at 10-20M per year ). I see him as a strong team member on a playoff team but not a team leader or star. Paying such players big chunks of your budget could be problematic moving forward.

Yeah, most people's opinions on it are blowing whichever the wind takes them. It's a no-brainer to extend him.. but in two years if he puts up a sub 100 wRC+ like he has 2 out of the last 3 years and his fielding goes to where it should.. (a plus glove but not like 2013).. and he's making $13m and a team cripple, most of the same people will say how dumb it was to extend him on one good year. I know Edwin's turned out to be gold.. but I dont like that comp to Rasmus as Edwin is on the record for working hard in the off-season to be better. CR's best comps are Adam Lind and Alex Rios and their team friendly extensions. That's who he is as a player. That's who you're betting on For the extra $7-8m and maybe a coule extra years, please give me Jacoby who even when he's cold at the plate brings wins to the table. No Dr.J/Mr.Hyde issues like CB
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Accidentally clicked on my bookmark for the old board. Laughed out Lind at the crap threads and posters who started them. Check out the first 5 or so titles. I advice not going to read them cause... Well just because they're complete crap.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 How f***ing scary is it that Robinzon Diaz not only still exists, but posted a 122 wRC+ in AAA last year?
