If the Jays made the playoffs you'd have to shut down this forum. Only half kidding, what would people have to talk about if they couldn't s*** on

the Jays on here ?

Not sure what you're expecting. Maybe you're happy with sub-mediocrity, irrelevance, and gross mismanagement, but actual fans of the team aren't.

He's 27, soon to be 28, has a terrible approach at the plate..cant defend worth a lick, and has only exceeded 1 war once during his entire 4 seasons, and that was just barely. Any writer who claims he has potential should be fired on the spot

f*** you all. That quote deserve his own thread.

What potential?

The Jays were known to be looking to improve behind the plate this winter and current catcher J.P. Arencibia has drawn trade interest from other teams. Davidi says there is some feeling that Arencibia has too much "accumulated baggage" in Toronto and might not reach his potential in a Blue Jay uniform. Arencibia is projected to earn $2.8MM as a first-time arbitration eligible player this winter and the Jays would certainly prefer getting something back for him in a trade than simply non-tendering him.

I imagine some club will take a flyer on Arencibia. They see his power, success Gomes had after he left Toronto. Will throw the Jays a bone for Arencibia

Power is in damn short supply all over baseball. Avg. OPS has dropped from 787 to under 710 in the NL since the year2000.

Average OBP in the NL this year was under 315 in the NL and 317 in the AL . Send him down to AAA and fix the bat. It is fixable. Mark my words JPA will hit in the majors and will be an above average hitter at the catcher position. I want him in AAA.

This is the type of compartmentalized thinking that leads bad teams to do misguided things like trade for Michael Morse because their lineup really needs a "right handed power presence".

It doesn't matter that JPA has power and power is less common in baseball than it used to be. What matters is that JPA is a poor hitter, all things considered, and a fairly terrible player.

He was an above average hitter for the catching position from 2011-2012 (pretty sure), and he was still, quite easily, a below average catcher overall.

Players don't get much more expendable.

If you can get something back for JPA's "power", then it's a no-brainer... which is convenient, because I'm not sure how many brains are left in the Jays FO.

No tool = No skill

You cannot ask to a blind man to see. JPA is JPA, No hitting skill but pop

Well nothing is 100%. Maybe 97%.

Right. There is a 5% chance or less (source: my ass) that he simply can't land someone better this off season.

Even if JPA somehow were to magically become a halfway decent hitter, he would STILL be useless because of his inability to call a game, block pitches, save runs, or keep his immature attitude in line.

Stop it Ken.......he needs to go. Non-Tendered and sent to the bank, which he won't.

Getting rid of JPA should be the first priority. Addition by subtraction.

forget making it in blue jays uniform, I hope he doesn't make it to the parking lot in Florida unless it's to sell game day programs.

At least he has a rich wife. That minor league salary probably doesnt go too far these days as a 29 year old.

Probably not but he did make $3.2MM in 4 years in the majors.

He seems like a goof but we did have some good memories with him on the team. I hope he doesn't get booed because he sucked like other ex Toronto players.

That's cute, you say that like he'll ever play in the majors again. At least Norfolk is only about 800 miles from Nashville.

Good memories? His 1st game comes to mind, and the hype prior to his arrival. He's already been boo'd when he played with the Rangers, he won't be here with the Orioles, lol, he sucks.

Don't know whose spot he would take of the O's he looks like Minor league depth.

Opening day 2012 was a good memory. JPA hit 2 bombs, it might be the most enjoyable game I've seen in person. Season was all downhill from there though.

Was a painful game for me (although it was probably the drunkest I've been for an opener), this was before I'd completely turned my back on the org...but JPA playing well would have been a shot at my prospect cred. Although I think it was 2011
