Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Interesting debate on XML today about Bautista. Kennedy and ? (Sorry). Their take was that Toronto should be looking to trade Reyes to Cards. Said Cards would give up just about anything to get him and they both felt Reyes would put the Cards into WS. Jays could expect to get. Two starters for him. Debate was really about who they should try and get. One of them thought they could get Tavares and Shellby Miller. The other would ask for Tavares, Miller and Carlos Martinez. But would not do any deal without Martinez. Reyes just might be more valuable than JB. Overall it really is an interesting issue we have. Considering the years of control several of our highly desirable guys have, we really could blow it up and end up with a massive haul of guys all basically major league ready. I'm not sure how realistic some of these are (and I know we aren't going to blow it up), but Reyes + Rasmus + 1/2 salary to Cards for Tavares and Miller. Bautista and reliever to Texas for Profar and Ogando. Edwin + ? to Seattle for Franklin + Walker. Janssen + Santos + Cecil to Tigers for Castellanos. That would still leave quite a few players (Morrow, Dickey, Buehrle, etc, but I'm not too sure where the specific fits might be for them other than the Angels and their horrid farm). Could see a rotation with Miller, Ogando, Walker, Stroman, Sanchez along with lawrie, Profar, Franklin + 1b + c + Taveras, Castellanos, Gose.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 One of them thought they could get Tavares and Shellby Miller. I don't think there's any way the Cards give up Miller and Taveras for Reyes (this isn't Amaro) but goddamn if that's an option you MUST pull the trigger.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Ridiculous to trade for a catcher. There's no need. Free agents abound. #SaveTheStroman Why the hell would your plan be to trade for Hanigan when a better catcher is right there available on a short deal for a modest amount of money and costs no assets in trade? What a dumb f***.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 This tweet is a little disturbing
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 This tweet is a little disturbing It's probably his third priority right now. Catching and SP need to be addressed first. Worst case, we could probably get by at 2B internally if the upgrade at catcher and SP is significant.
leaffie Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 This tweet is a little disturbing I heard that Aaron Hill is available!!!!!!
leaffie Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I was kidding. But he would look good, but way too much money.
fireballW Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 If we could get Miller and Tavarez for Reyes I do it right now. Then we move Bautista to the Rangers for Profar or Andrus and Holland. Wee become, younger, cheaper and better. Younger and better? What if Profar never pans out? The trade would put us in a much different situation. Getting all that young talent would be pretty cool. But you are underestimating how good Reyes and Bautista are on offense. With Bautista and Reyes gone and only Profar to replace them that would be a large hit. Of course if you talk about replace their salaries with McCann/Ruiz and Choo or even a guy like Cruz if he is cheaper and on a shorter deal, then yeah, it'd be lovely.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I'm certain that Toronto would be sternly rebuked if they asked for either of Miller/Taveras, let alone both of them. The Cards have been using Miller as trade bait. I could see them doing Miller/Reyes. I'm not certain but I think it's possible.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 This tweet is a little disturbing 12 AAV C + 10 AAV 2B ------> Disqualified 16 AAV M to McCann + Izturis/Goins ----> Approved
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I got a feeling we're going to see JPA traded in the next few days.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 With Bautista and Reyes gone and only Profar to replace them that would be a large hit. Part of the appeal of deals like this is that you would have Profar AND Taveras (who is ready) that can jump into the MLB immediately.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Please no, Alex How many lives has this guy got left??
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Please no, Alex How many lives has this guy got left?? I'd take Wolf on a Minor League in a hearbeat but obviously with the hopes that he's never needed for more than an emergency start.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 And another one from the scrap heap!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Obviously these guys know full well how desperate most teams are for starting pitching.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 And another one from the scrap heap! Lilly - Gibbons reunion? Yes please.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Please no, Alex How many lives has this guy got left?? didn't the Jays have some guy from LA in their system? lol
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Is it always this slow this early in spring. I would take anything right now. Maybe it is just me missing baseball.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I'm going to be in Singapore and Bali the next couple of weeks, I'll light some incense and talk to the local Gods and see if we can get any help. might have to sacrifice a virgin mary or two at the bar and throw flowers into a volcano to get it done, but I'll do what I can to help the team.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I'd take Wolf on a Minor League in a hearbeat but obviously with the hopes that he's never needed for more than an emergency start. Better than Ramon Ortiz or Edgar Gonzalez that's for sure.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 And another one from the scrap heap! Lilly could be a nice fit somewhere in the NL if he can stay healthy. Since he signed with the Cubs in 2007, he pitched very well when healthy. As a No. 5 starter, he'd be worth rolling the dice on for an NL team that plays in a big ballpark.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Wacha or bust! I'd rather have Shelby than Wacha.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I'd move Bautista for Hultzen + Zunino, just saying. Bwahahahahahaha
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Why the hell would your plan be to trade for Hanigan when a better catcher is right there available on a short deal for a modest amount of money and costs no assets in trade? What a dumb f***. Hanigan would be the back up with JP gone. He's better than Thole. SO get rid of JPR & Thole and bring in Ruiz & Hanigan. And the Reds painted themselves into a corner by making Hanigan the odd man out right now. Mesoraco being the starter and Brayan Pena being the new back up.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Maybe we could get Wong or Kozma in deal. One of these things just doesn't belong.
