I guess the point is weird s*** like this has been happening for 20 years. "Whatchya uppset about sonny?? What's makin' you blue?? Mottolla?? That hitting coach?? Ya liked him didga?? Sad he got fired?? Kind of weird aint it?? Well that ain't nothin' son... sit down and let me tell you a tale. It was the fall of 1993.... Blue Jays on top of the world. Top 3 averages in the league. And Larry Hisle the hitting coach was just mindin' his business getting ready for the World Series... and then...." "Grandpa take your meds... Billy don't listen to grandpa, he's just telling crazy tales"
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Wow thats f***ing blows. What a s***** organization. Why the f*** would you fire the guy after your team wins the world series and you had the top 3 hitters in the league? Some f***ed up s*** is going on in Beestons mind.
leaffie Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Wow, thx for that. I had forgotten about Hisle. I don't think anyone ever heard why either.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Sad "When you're in the middle of something like this," Paul Molitor said, "something like this shouldn't happen. There's no reason he shouldn't be back. The hitters have had a lot of success, and are committed to his work." Dammit this team could use a Paul Molitor...

Beeston/Cito and pull dat ball philosophy are really hurting this organization.

He was with the team in '94 and '95 and was fired after the '95 season after two disappointing years for the team, followed by the start of the "famous" Interbrew era. Not saying that the team did right by him but everything has to be be put into proper context. I'm also curious as to why he didn't work in the bigs as a coach after that. Maybe he got tired of it all, or maybe there was something going on that wasn't public knowledge in terms of his capabilities. I have no idea, and it's not even fair to speculate otherwise, but it just seems odd that a hitting coach just disappears from the game - just like that.

He actually didn't get fired in the end. There was a pretty big protest and they rehired him... Fired (justifiably so) after 95. I want to say something happened with his health after that.

You'd think that with Hisle's reputation as a hitter and two great years (92 & 93) as a hitting coach, it would have been enough to get interest from other teams. That was just crazy having #1, 2 and 3 in the batting race. It was such a fun team to watch because they could beat you in so many ways.
