So this is what our organization actually thinks, hey?

Better than what?

His hysterical overreaction is obviously the product of a guilty conscience.

He's got like 4 adolescent girls chained up in his basement. Book it.

First off, i just glanced at her pic and she looked like she was 12. Secondly i have a daughter myself so thats why i reacted the way i did,you stupid ignorant f***. If i realized she was in University, there would obviously be no reaction on my part. I guess i have to remind myself sometimes that this board consists mainly of a 25 and under crowd. Sorry guys.

Absolutely no reason why you can't learn how to play better defence. It's not a God-given DNA/talent issue, it's an issue of strategy and making sure that the statistically correct reactions to certain pitch trajectories become ingrained and are relegated to instinct and muscle memory.

I was going to post "let me guess, you have a young daughter/s?".

I feel for you brother, I really do. Kids nowadays start watching hardcore pornography from the age of 7. I'd never have a kid in this cesspool of a society.

Good luck. All you can do is try to make sure that their opinions of themselves are more important to them than their peer-group's opinions of them.

You don't trade young players just beginning to tap into their potential

I don't want him to be traded. Just wondering.

At the Major League level is it a talent thing. These players have been playing baseball for 10+ years, they're not getting better at defense.

"Talent" as in reaction-time? Because that's the only real physical component to blocking balls behind the plate. It's like goaltending in hockey, you don't actually WAIT to see where the puck is ending up when it's shot, because obviously by the time you see exactly where it's going, it'd be too late to react to it. You see the puck off the stick and make a split-second decision on where you think it's going to be, then you "assume the position" and hope it hits you.

Same concept for blocking balls in the dirt, you have no idea which way it will bounce, but you can learn the best, statistically speaking, positions to assume for certain trajectories/spins, and this improves your success rate.

He is trying to improve though and probably at a way similar to what you suggest. The Major Leagues are extremely difficult, some guys can't cut it. It's clear by now he doesn't have what it takes.

Maybe so, it's not like either of us know for sure. Just saying, it's not like we're asking him to become a faster runner, or have more power in his arm, or anything else that is outside his realm of control and is purely physical based on genetics. He has control over his strategies for blocking balls behind the plate, and either he's too stupid to remember his lessons, or isn't trying hard enough to learn.

I'm still confident that he has decent value, there's always GM's who are looking for power from behind the plate, and don't give a f*** if he puts up a .250 OBP in the 9-hole.

Like Alex Anthopoulos?

In April (8) and May(4), JPA hit 12 home runs

In June (3) and July (2), he's hit 5 home runs

5 HOME RUNS FROM A POWER HITTING CATCHER IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS

Sounds good enough to me

*end sarcasm*

Not to mention he is terrible outside of Rogers Center. His value would be s*** all.

There isnt one particular post to address on this, but ERA should be throw out the window when looking at Jays pitchers, even more so than usual. Notorious hitter's park with a circus show going on defense every night. Mark Buehrle could finish the season with an ERA of 5 and I wouldnt call it a bad year from him.

One thing ive noticed is that he doesnt have those monster shots guys like Rasmus and Bautista have. He rarely hits the ball right on the noise and a lot of his homeruns seem to be him just muscling the ball out of our small park. Of course it could be just a bias I have and notice these things more so with him.

If he was hitting .250/.265/.405 maybe they'd look past the OBP. But the same GMs who don't care about OBP also care deeply about avridge, and JP is hitting .217. In another few days his slugging will go below .400, which will officially make his entire line absolutely atrocious.

Maybe so. Still, if next year's trade deadline he's hitting .240 with an OBP north of .280 and he's on track for 20+ dingers I'm confident we'll get a decent B prospect for him for one of the other 29 GM's.

Posted
Like honestly, what is he even good for? The one thing he's good at doing, he's not even doing.

He is good at connecting with the young fans on twitter.

Oh wait...

Posted
That's a lot to ask for. I hope he's not on this team at the deadline next year, and I sure as hell don't think we could fetch a B prospect for him

I strongly disagree.

Guess we'll have to wait to find out.

If Bautista is hitting .370 with 30 homers at the deadline next year, im confident we will be able to trade him for a decent haul.

My mind is still blown at having found out that JJ's BABIP against is "only" .350 this season............

that extra .050 must be exclusively multi-run dingers. Hah.

He's career .222 AVG and .275 OBP

Hoping he has a career year is stretching

Well then call me Stretch Armstrong.

People thought we couldn't even give away Andrea Bargnani, and we got back a 1st round pick and 2 2nd rounders, plus a decent role-player. There's always going to be one team out there that's either in a playoff spot or within 5 games of one at the deadline, with an injured catcher or one that they're dissatisfied with. Situations change, GM's get desperate (cough, cough).

Posted
There's also his 19% HR/FB rate. That regresses towards 10%. He's at 8.1% career, albeit in a pitcher's park. And his 62% strand rate. That's also way too low.

Luck? Or rightly deserved due to s***** pitching due to injury and/or natural decline?

Most likely a combination of the two, with partial credit given to this being a negative outlier year for him in general.

Posted
I'm not a basketball fan, but I don't think it's right to compare 2 sports like that.

Well I do. Same context, the sport is irrelevant. Assets for assets. The GM game is the same whatever the sport. And Bargnani was seen as even more toxic around the league than JP is within MLB.

Derp GM's gonna derp. You can always rely on human stupidity to shake up what "should" happen in any given situation.
