Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Aybar is a more economical version with lesser results, lesser defence, and 5 year added on... Aybar ~8AAV 2011 - 3.9 WAR (107 wRC+) 2012 - 3.7 WAR (106 wRC+)
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 All of Andrus WAR this year has come from his D and BSR. Andrus wRC+ 61 (39% below Avg)
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 If a deal for Andrus starts with Bautista or Edwin, then I'd much rather trade one of them for Profar.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 All of Andrus WAR this year has come from his D and BSR. This is what scares me with him. If his defense is reaching his peak, I'm worried about giving up a s*** ton for him.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 This is what scares me with him. If his defense is reaching his peak, I'm worried about giving up a s*** ton for him. It should be the opposite. Even with his massive struggles this year with the bat, he's still going to come close to a 2 War season. His LD, GB, K and walk rate are pretty much the same as the last 2 years.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Bad idea to trade for andrus when Profar can be had. No f***ing bat
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Bad idea to trade for andrus when Profar can be had. No f***ing bat He's a SS with elite defence, he doesnt have to hit well to still be a good player and would come cheaper than Profar, which is the whole point
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 He's a SS with elite defence, he doesnt have to hit well to still be a good player and would come cheaper than Profar, which is the whole point Andrus makes sense if were getting a very good prospect in the deal as well. Bautista is on a very team friendly deal but if trading him can solve our middle infield issues for several years and net us a good prospect then I would be fine with that.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Lol what team is gonna give up anything of value for either of them?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 YES PlEASE edit: god damnit you two Muahahahaha If AA can trade him I'd rather we ship Melk, if not then we get him suspended
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Muahahahaha If AA can trade him I'd rather we ship Melk, if not then we get him suspended Melky isn't going anywhere, maybe Japan. unproductive + Roids + ban = s***
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 This is already being discussed in the trade thread.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If they mentioned Melky, that can only mean they want to try Pillar.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 So this is what we've come to: celebrating that AA might try to move two players that nobody wants. Awesome job, AA! It's not like the whole team needs to be sold off for prospects or anything!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Melky's never been on roids..? He's bad because he's fat. The last two years he was fairly skinny and was able to turn on balls. Now he's fat and slow. He's a bum lol
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 oops. delete then, sorry No worries, I just merged the threads.
GNick Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 He's a SS with elite defence, he doesnt have to hit well to still be a good player and would come cheaper than Profar, which is the whole point If Jays want a glove SS with no bat one can be had much cheaper than 14 million a year for 9 years.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Andrus is a really solid player, but it's hard to think of him as much of an asset on that contract. Very similar to Jose Reyes right now. Makes wins happen on the field, but financially you might as well have done nothing. Very likely that at some point that contract becomes a chunk of change that you wish you could re-appropriate (as the Rangers might be realizing at this moment). Here's a trade that would absolutely never have a chance of happening, but makes sense in a nerdy trade vacuum: Andrus for Melky + Buehrle + cash to balance the short term (2013) books. All of these players are functional non assets at this point, at least IMO (and being a bit loose with that "non-asset" label). - Buehrle projects for 0.6 fWAR (ZIPS) the rest of the way, which is an improvement on Martin Perez, their current #5 SP, who projects for a 5.05 FIP and replacement level pitching. - Melky projects for 0.5 fWAR the rest of the way, and provides corner outfield depth that Texas craves, since they currently have David Murphy in left and the soon to be suspended Nelson Cruz in right. - Texas replacing Andrus with Profar is a very tiny short term projected wins loss (-0.2), but it carries massive long term potential gains. They stand to gain very much by running with Profar as a full time player, and from a developmental perspective he needs the reps. So Texas basically just moves money around, in the short term, to get a better distribution of investment with a mind on both a) short term winning, and long term franchise player development. In the long term, Texas frees up quite a bit of cash. I think the gains to Toronto are obvious. They don't shed much (if any) payroll, but Andrus is younger and helps fill the middle infield blackhole currently glaring it's ugly face at 2B (where Jose Reyes would move). In LF, going from Melky to a Davis/Gose/Rasmus platoon thing probably sees the Jays actually gain a bit of wins. In the rotation, the Jays lose (sadly) their best current SP, but there might be some depth coming through there in the short term in Nolin, Hutch, Drabek, Stroman, Happ, etc.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Oh joy. Maybe we might even get a PTBNL in return for either of those two scrubs. What a haul. -sigh-
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If we could move Melky's salary I would consider that an accomplishment. I don't care about the return. Just take that money off the books. That 8M needs to go towards Choo. Melky can only be moved with the same Cubs-Soriano kind of deal. Melky + 80% of 2013 salary for Z prospect
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Andrus makes sense if were getting a very good prospect in the deal as well. Bautista is on a very team friendly deal but if trading him can solve our middle infield issues for several years and net us a good prospect then I would be fine with that. Bautista for Andrus and Martin Perez would be a great trade. Not sure if Jose still has that kind of value though.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 How do you guys even know that Reyes can play good defense on 2B? Lawrie was suppose to play good defense... Boni was suppose to play good defense... Kawasaki is probably the only one that will look like he can get the job done. Izturis is probably alright at 2B.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Since Bono would probably net us next to nothing...I would prefer to hold onto him and use him as a 4th OF and late game pinch runner since i doubt Davis will be back.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The franchise is being held hostage by Beast-tonne and Boy Wonder. They're "all in" and to trade anyone of significance would be an admission of failure on their part. f***, man. I hope we don't stay the course for the next two seasons, unless we're going to go ALL "all in" and jack payroll into the stratosphere to get Choo and Cano and Garza this offseason. Other than that or something equally dramatic, just blow this s*** up already FFS.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Texas would take that in a nanosecond IMO. Andrus' contract prevents him from earning much surplus value, whereas Bautista is a bargain at his deal. It's very hard to find impact bats these days and Bautista is one. We'd have to get Profar. Profar + If I don't hear that, I'm hanging up. That, or a couple of sexy relievers with arm tats and/or hawt goggles.
