Just enough starts to secure 2B fantasy eligibility next year.

Maybe Gibbons/AA/Bautista/Rasmus/Beeston (decide which you think it funniest) own him in a fantasy league???

It made no sense to begin with, anyone with any intelligence at all would know not to move an elite defender off his position. Especially with no one coming up that is forcing such a move and to a position that almost nullifies one of his elite tools (arm strength)

If they had Lawrie and wanted him to plug their 2B hole, then I think their fantasy team is worse than mine lol

I still believe something was going on that we don't know about

Why would anyone start Lawrie in a fantasy league right now?

Awful. Not that I am married to the idea of Brett Lawrie as a second basemen.

However just another sign that this team doesn't have a clue. Once a decision is made see it through. For gods sake nothing can be evaluated in a week.

This organization doesn't understand this. Players go up and down like crazy. Nolin gets a start then goodbye! Lawrie gets placed on second then pulled off. Whatever happened 5 minutes ago is reality...

Compare to Tampa Bay who look carefully at long term track records, value positional flexibility and have the patience to execute it.

Once the decision to move Lawrie to second was made they should of gave him reps at second the rest of the year (I didn't mind the idea of flipping him back and forth).

We need somebody to toss a grenade in the Alex's press box. I've never been so done with a front office before. This team has absolutely no idea or control on what they're doing.

Exactly. It feels like yet another "flying by the seat of their pants" move for this regime.

The good news is the way Lawrie is starting to look hitting. Sure, his injuries and false starts have given him a bad batting average etc, but its nothing unusual given the number of AB and turmoil. I remain optimistic that he'll be one of their bright spots next season.

Lawrie doesn't belong anywhere but 3B. That's all I have to say about that.

on the lineup card for tonight's game has Lawrie and Izturis listed as 4/5 5/4

Does he move Lawrie to 2B for lefties? It's very Jimy Williams of a move if this is the case...it's also possible Gibbons is trying to bring a little levity to the clubhouse

Possible trade talks for 3B broke down?

No, they just thought, "Awesome, now we have someone to play secondbase for us." Then it was, "Oh f***, we don't have anyone to play thirdbase now."

f***ing idiots. I said it was stupid from day one.

I don't have a huge problem with people saying it's stupid. I don't think it was... but again ONCE they made the decision it's ridiculous to go back on it in a week.

In my mind they thought

"This is an opportunity to make a good decision for the long term. Lawrie is a tremendous athlete and this would open up multiple paths to build the 2014 team. There may be some growing pains but long term this move could make us more robust. Positional flexibility is a strategy our keen rival Tampa Bay uses with success and we have no problems copying our keen rivals. There might be bumps on the road, but this is a long term move, and we're a great confident organization that builds for the long term.... wait... Did that kid just air mail it into the stands on a double play?? Really?? f*** what were we thinking!!!! Who's stupid idea was this anyway?? Fire that guy. This never happened. No it never f***ing happened. Go about your business and never f***ing speak of this s*** again"
