DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Yes numerator has to be negative, but a negative numerator doesn't mean a negative FIP, just a FIP less than 3.2. Ya, I didn't have the constant so I was speaking in generalities. Should've included "plus a constant" in my original post to make it clear.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Fatcow asked what gives a negative FIP but you gave him FIP less than 3.2 and people jut use 3.2 as a general number just like 10R/W but this year it is 3.047. Ah, ok gotcha. Thanks for explaining, now I know. I wasn't doing the calculation just trying to show where the formula can be negative. IMO it helps to visualize what pitchers control to prevent runs and what they control to let up runs. It was definitely misleading to not include the constant.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 What does a negative FIP mean?? The other team owes him runs?? LOL Last 2 outings 13*HR + 3*(BB+HBP) - 2*K [(13*0) + 3*(1+0) - 2(27)]/16 IP = (3- 54)/16 = -3.19 -3.19 + 3.20 Constant = 0.01 FIP
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 3.2 is not part of the denominator. It is added after. 3.2 affects the entire equation. [(s*** + s*** - s***)/ s***] + 3.20
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Henderson Alvarez would look nice in this rotation right now. I know hes been hurt. But he is a guy who is just going to keep getting better. At the time I wasn't so upset. But now I'm starting to think we might regret moving him. When he really learns how to pitch hes going to dominate. ~5/K9 = long reliever AL East
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 They have the stars and top prospects though, which is the hard part. When the time is right they'll replace the Polanco and Dobbs' of the world. Again, I don't think so. Other more established teams have better young talent then they do. Look at their division, Washington and the Mets seem to both have young players that plenty of people like. Philadelphia and Atlanta just buy talent when they run into issues, although Philly may have issues. The future doesn't look bright for the Marlins. I'd say at least 4 years to rebuild and only if the owners don't sell off anybody else.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Philly has serious issues because Amaro is your type of GM - someone who overpays wildly for any big name he can get.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
