Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Raps looking good again tonight.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 It's time to go all-in and the Raps have the pieces to do so. Detroit has made Drummond available. A Drummond for JV (plus pieces) swap makes sense for both teams. Drummond gives us the elite rebounder that we so desperately need and having Ibaka on the floor would still allow for decent spacing. It's pretty evident that Casey will never trust JV with important minutes. Van Gundy would probably love a center with the offensive upside of JV. Also, very promising signs from the youngsters tonight. Powell was huge in the first half and Poeltl brings a lot of energy. But special mention for Delon Wright. He's been brilliant in flashes when healthy over the last two years. Great size, active on D. Once he improves the jumper and his handle he's going to be a force... Joseph is clearly expendable now so his contract can be used to balance the dollars in a trade if Masai decides to make another. Great win but Masai needs to swing for the fences here.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Boogie to Pelicans for Buddy, Tyreke, 1st, 2nd and Sacramento's hopes and dreams
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Wonder what the Raps offered. Seems light but I guess that 1st in the stacked draft is worth a ton to them.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 WTF we couldn't beat that offer? masai...
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Isn't Cousins a despicable human being?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 WTF we couldn't beat that offer? masai... Apparently SAC really wanted Heild. Grange on twitter made it sound like the Raps really didn't try though. I'm really surprised Boston didn't get him considering all the young talent they have.

They probably don't want JV, Powell doesnt have the same value Buddy or the pick has
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Isn't Cousins a despicable human being? He's complicated. He's an ******* and a hot head. But he's also very giving in the community and had a better relationship with the fans than he did teammates or coaches. I went to college in Sacramento and have been a fan of the team for over a decade but it might be time to move on after this.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Probably the worst trade in the NBA since the Vince Carter deal.
TRM Verified Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Probably the worst trade in the NBA since the Vince Carter deal. To be fair to Babcock (words I never thought I would say), Vince totally had him by the balls. He probably could have done better, but Vince let everyone know he wanted to leave, stopped playing even remotely well (was averaging 15PPG) and even stopped dunking. Boogie (at least allegedly) was ok with sticking around.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 What website can I use to check WAR for basketball players? I just learned such a thing exists in basketball.

I just learned such a thing exists in basketball. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/buddy-hield/ 538 has a CARMELO projection system. I think basketball reference has advanced stats. So does 82games.com Nothing is as developed or as universal as WAR is for baseball players though. It probably never will be as the game revolves more around team work and isn't a game of individual outcomes like baseball is.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 not reaaaally Win shares looks solid just by looking at the quality of players near the top, though I have no idea what actually goes into the list.

Yeah that's why I was surprised when I read an article projecting Cousins WAR for the next 6 years. The article quoted something like 46 or something so I wanted to see how that compared to other players for context because 46 Wins over 6 years in baseball would just be nuts to project.

The thing is that in basketball one player can make a much more significant impact than in baseball. Consider that the elite players have the ball in their hands over a third of the time, while playing close to 40 minutes a night. They are directly responsible for a team winning a game whereas Mike Trout will be involved in maybe 4 or 5 game changing moments over the course of a game if he's lucky. That's the reason why when people talk about LeBron's teams they mention his impact specifically, because him being on the court can be the reason for a team making the playoffs, like what happened in his earlier Cleveland tenure when his supporting cast was mostly terrible.

Yeah that's a good point. An Elite player would indeed have a much bigger impact with 5 players being on the court at one time and the best players playing most of the game (as you said). So yeah, I guess basketball WAR for that reason alone would be much higher.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Fangraphs wrote some stupid article about Lebron being a 42 WAR baseball player. He'd basically have to be vintage Craig Kimbrel for 9 innings every 5 days. In between starts he'd have to play SS and he'd do it better than Ozzie Smith. On top of it he'd hit better than Barry Bonds and he'd play every day. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/lets-imagine-a-baseball-playing-lebron-james/
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 The trade sending DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to the Pelicans in exchange for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and some draft picks was finalized on Monday. "It was time for a change and I decided this was the best direction for the organization, said Vlade Divac. "Winning begins with culture and character matters." Divac went on to half-heartedly thank Cousins for his time in Sacramento and tried to justify the trade by hyping up the draft picks, but the line about "culture" and "character matters" is a pretty obvious shot at Boogie. Both Cousins and Anthony Davis will be sacrificing some touches as they learn to play together, but both of them should still be able to fill up the stat sheet. For what it's worth, Divac also said he had a better offer a couple days ago, so there's that. -- I wonder if the Raps had an offer on Cousins and Masai pulled it after landing Ibaka.

I'd be pissed if that were true. Cousins is so much better and would have made them a championship contender something Ibaka doesn't do.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Raptors reportly offered Val and a 1st for Drummond. It was turned down but it's nice to see Massai still trying to upgrade the team

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 So Magic's first trade now he's in charge of the Lakers is Lou Williams to the Rockets for Corey Brewer and a 1st round pick. Not sure I particularly like this for the Rockets when Eric Gordon is already there as the 6th man, and his role is mainly to shoot the ball.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Hey, they didn't give up the other 1st to get him... so I guess that's ok? 2nd round picks are usually worthless anyway.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Not a fan of Tucker. Blah.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Not a fan of Tucker. Blah. don't understand this comment, what arent you a fan of? The guy plays great defense, doesn't suck up shots on offense but can score. Is actually big enough to guard guys like Lebron. Seems like the perfect backup SF
