Derozan's numbers are crazy. Averaging 34 PPG and only shooting 16% from 3(only made 2 Threes all year). Most insane thing is he's shotting 64% from 10-16 feet and 51% from 16 feet-3 point line.

He's being really efficient taking the most inefficient shots you can take lol. Not sure how sustainable it is but its really fun.

an 8th year player becoming michael Jordan over night.

I think we've all said at some point that he's a very likeable guy. Good for him, the hardwork paid off

This is a good point. I mean everyone would prefer him to have success than not but before anyone goes from underrating him to overrating him, it's good to remember that it's a small sample size from a player who has faded down the stretch before. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome but it's alright to be somewhat cautious in the optimism.

Of course I'm missing this cause I haven't had a second to actually watch basketball so far. Ugh.

It's not sustainable. I'd be more interested in if he's improved his defense or playmaking. He was actually pretty efficient last year except for the playoffs.

And some of you all wanted him gone?

None of us wanted in him at that price. I was scared that his contract would become an unmovable albatross but I'm probably wrong on that since it seems like everyone in the NBA gets 100 million dollar contracts these days.

He's a very likeable guy and with the Raptors success the past 2-3 seasons with him at the helm along with Lowry, you wanted to keep that winning culture together. Team chemistry is more important in sports like basketball than it is in baseball IMO since its such a small locker room. Plus, who else could have they brought in realistically who would have been better? At the end of the day, even if DeRozan wasn't play at this high of a level to start the year, I'm still OK with the signing.

Is DeRozan actually doing anything different, or is he just hitting more shots? Randomness?

Oh I know its not sustainable. Even Curry isn't this good from mid-range. If he can start hitting the 3 at even 32% I'd like him a lot more, I still hate the shots he's taking, just they're going in.

Once fatigue sets in (he's playing a ton of minutes) I expect the numbers to go down to his career average.

I think he can be a poor man's Kobe, which I'm fine with. We have him for his 27-32 years so he shouldn't drop off during his contract.

He's shooting less 3s and more mid range shots. Shooting 15-20% better on those mid range shots which won't continue.

I love that Derozan was pissed about his #46 rank from SI. It just motivated him...

It's good for the team, but does that tell you something about the player? An article in a magazine is what motivates him and gets him going? Not... Dominate because that will help my team to win. I don't know... Something about that whole SI thing didn't sit right with me.

If someone went up to you and said you were not good at your job, wouldn't you try to prove them wrong by working harder?

It's pretty well documented that Derozan spends a lot of his time in the gym working on his game. Some people get motivation from different places. He was already a good player, multiple ASG appearances, being a top two player in a team that reached the NBA conference finals, and then a dumb ranking from a well known magazine comes out and says that he's only just okay is enough to make someone pretty mad. If that gave him an extra boost to improve his game, then great, no one knows if this would have happened regardless since DD is always working towards improving.

The question that NJH seems to be raising is whether it's possible that Derozan is being rewarded for bad process? Might this come back to bite him long term? I know it's annoying to keep finding warts both with Derozan and with this team but this is an analytically leaning board so it's only normal that the same kind of questions we might ask in baseball will be asked here and it's a pretty interesting question IMO.

It's amazing how explosive Derrick Rose remains after all of the knee problems which have never gone away.

The Knicks running out Porzingis at PF is giving us problems.
