eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Draft express has us taking Jerami Grant. Good size, huge wingspan. Looks like a good shooter and rebounder for his position. Take the BPA but I'd be down with grabbing a solid wing player.

There are so many guys around #20 that fit what we need, given Masai's drafting history and scouting background I would be shocked if we don't come out with a really solid player. I like KJ McDaniels too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5Lr26ORJ_o
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Kevin Love wants to be traded. Work your magic Masai.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Seems like Rodney Hood could be available at our pick. Yes please.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Kevin Love wants to be traded. Work your magic Masai. Free agent in one year who wants to play in a huge market. We'd have to give up Ross + 1st rounders and we'd have a very small chance of re-signing him. Pass.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 If we could manage to resign him, he's kind of a perfect fit.

Ross + 2 first rounders for a year to convince Love to sign long term would be okay by me.

I prefer organic growth while freeing up cap space to make a run at Durant. We're set up nicely for future drafts. Don't ruin that IMO. Too much of a risk. Love seems destined to be in NY, Chicago, LA, etc.

Love seems destined to be in NY, Chicago, LA, etc. Our chances of Durant coming here increase from pipe dream to possible if we somehow get Love on board here. If we get him and make a long run into the playoffs next year, we have a good shot of resigning him. I'll take that easily for Ross + 2 1st rounders (which likely will be in the 20s). The key is not giving up JV. Edited May 18, 2014 by dineke
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Our chances of Durant coming here increase from pipe dream to possible if we somehow get Love on board here. And wouldn't we be able to sign both if we signed Love after Durant? We're acquiring Love's Bird Rights by trading for him, so if we signed KD to a contract, we'd be able to resign Love by going over the cap, to my understanding. But it wouldn't be the same the other way around, if we signed Love first. Could be wrong though. PG: Lowry SG: Derozan SF: Durant PF: Love C: Valanciunas Never going to happen but holy jesus

There have just been so many rumors about Love and big market clubs though. I dunno. The thing with Toronto though is that once players actually get here, they love it. So maybe Love WOULD re-sign. He's used to the s***** winters now and probably just wants to win. We have a great fanbase, can offer him big money and the chance to win... We're building a huge new practice facility. It wouldn't be a hard sell. I don't think we can take the risk though.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 PG: Lowry SG: Derozan: SF: Hood/Grant/Warren/McDaniels PF: Love C: Valanciunas Is an easy top 4 team in the East IMO. I feel like if we did get Love, we could convince him to resign. We're a great city. Look at Jurassic Park. It's hard to turn that down.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I wanted the team to tank for a star, but now that that's not going to happen, Masai will have to do something that's high risk/high reward at some point.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 The Raps could get fairly creative this year. They have a few expiring contracts (Amir @ 7M, Fields @ 6.25, Chuck Hayes @ 6M) Amir probably doesn't get dealt but you could get a decent player from a team that is rebuilding for Fields + Hayes + a pick. Obviously bringing back salary long-term for those expirings would almost kill any shot at signing a big time FA though. Here is the current cap situation: http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/TOR.html
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 If you have a chance to sign both Durant and Love, Demar or Lowry will be traded probably. I'd be fine with trading Demar in that case. Trade him for a cheap defensive asset or a cheap shooter and a draft pick in that scenario. I wanted the team to tank for a star, but now that that's not going to happen, Masai will have to do something that's high risk/high reward at some point. Interesting article that changed my mind on tanking. http://www.boxscoregeeks.com/articles/news-flash-tanking-isn-t-actually-a-problem
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 This video is amazing. It's a mix of Game of Thrones and the NBA playoffs. The Rose-Boozer part for me was the best.

Well duh... Tanking is all about increasing your luck by getting into a higher draft position. Also, how can the article just throw out examples like the Spurs and OKC? Yeah they relied on luck, how does that discount it though? Where would the heat be if they didn't draft Wade 5th overall? Boston tanked for a pick, and used it to trade for KG... "Oh look, teams that win less than 20 games don't win more games in the future." Well no s***, that's because most of them never intended to tank anyways, they're just really dumb!!!

Love literally plays no defense, our offense would be amazing but our D would be very questionable.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 JV isn't good enough defensively for that front court. Love literally plays no defense, our offense would be amazing but our D would be very questionable. That's an exaggeration by the media. Love does play defense, not very good, but he's not a complete butcher. And JV's only 21, he should improve his defense these next few years... he was known for his defensive potential when he was drafted.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 If we had love, we couldn't sign any free agent first, including Durant and then use a players bird rights to go over. You have to denounce your players bird rights before you sign a free agent if it would put you over the cap.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Seriously what does Roy Hibbert have against the Heat? First game Indiana wins 107-96, Hibbert drops 19/9. Could be that Bosh gets bullied by him, but still impressive that the big fella somehow turns up against the best team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 NBA trying to keep Irving in Cleveland? lol they're gonna get one of Jabari, Wiggins or Embiid
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT THE f*** That's bs lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The NBA continue paying to the Cavs for the Lebron lost.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Cleveland has a bunch of retards running the team - Offer Demar + 20th for their pick and draft Wiggins... One can hope.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Cleveland could realistically have Canada's national basketball team's starting front court by the next Olympics
Caper Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Cleveland has a bunch of retards running the team - Offer Demar + 20th for their pick and draft Wiggins... One can hope. Forget that. Let Cleveland draft Wiggins... He's not going to be a huge contributer for 3 or 4 years... Let him reach free agency and sign him. No one stays in Cleveland. The Cavs getting Wiggins is the best case scenerio.
