jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 How is it unjustified? NBA owners need to comport themselves in a manner befitting the integrity and equality of the league. He was fined the maximum amount agreed to by the league constitution for a vile breach of conduct. Which is why I understand the banning for life as it's going to reflect the integrity of the league going forward, as well as the value of one their NBA franchises. Being a scumb racism POS doesn't warrant a maximum fine though IMO, it just seems like a HR show.

(And yes I realize this is irrelevant to your point.)

You could sort of argue that because of these comments fans might have backed down from buying tickets or it hurt the players' performance on the court, thus losing money for the league. Just a theory though, he still deserves it IMO.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 He bought the team for $12M and will be forced to sell it for $500M+. $2.5M is a drop in the bucket.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Also is it just me or does Adam Silver look a lot like Lord Voldemort??
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 This is an abysmally stupid verdict. If Sterling made these comments in public, it would be understandable. But he made them in a private phone conversation which was recorded without his knowledge or consent. So, the message here is that if anyone makes a racist (and we can assume homophobic or sexist) comment in any private conversation, the NBA has a right to ban them for life. If the NBA intends to adhere to that standard, then let's attempt some consistency, and at least ban all the players (Tim Hardaway), rappers, celebrities etc who have made PUBLIC homophobic statements. He is not being punished for acting racist, or for speaking publicly. He is being punished for having racist thoughts, and i am absolutely amazed that no one seems bothered by this level of thought police.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Great f***ing job Silver. Respect +1. Indy is done. Vogel will get fired but he's not the problem. It all started when they traded Granger (great glue guy) for Turner. Doc, Thibs, Vogel AND Karl may all be available this summer. Masai, pls.
Frag Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Great f***ing job Silver. Respect +1. Doc, Thibs, Vogel AND Karl may all be available this summer. Masai, pls. Karl is the NBA version of Randy Carlyle minus the ring. He's the last coach you want on your team.

Frag Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Opinions of him have been mixed from more or less everyone. Why don't you like him? He rarely adapts to new situations and has difficulty working with players who don't fit his small ball system (eg. Kenneth Faried).

Meh I'd rather they grab a coach from college like Brad Stevens in Boston instead of those overrated coaches you listed. Anyways, Casey is coming back for sure so this is a non issue.

I am wondering how this is worse than Torri Hunter saying he wouldn't want to be team mates with a homosexual.

It's not like he organized a press conference and started dropping N-Bombs. This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. We've ALL said stupid s*** in our lives. Of course what he said was wrong but America is basically just one massive insecurity complex.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Anyways, hopefully this topic is now dead. Point made. Let's get back to focusing on what has been an incredible playoffs.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I wonder how many of us would lose our jobs if someone privately recorded all of our conversations lol. Probably all of us. I know I would! Comments were pretty disgusting though.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Looks like Chicago is getting bounced from the playoffs early. Nothing against Washington but that isnt a team that should ever reach the conference finals.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 So hilarious to see on most of the facebook sports pages where I or others commend Silver, but wonder why this is so much different than the Redskins situation in the NFL. it gets ripped on as "Liberal BS". The truth is that Native Rights groups have zero power in the States. Private racist conversation by an owner - loses team. Public racist conversation by several people including the owner - Liberal PC ******** Blackface by a celebrity - Shame RedFace by anyone - Mascot, superfan REDFACE=Disgrace
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Of course Oprah wants to get involved in all the black/white/rascist action going on and is interested in making a big for the clippers lol

Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Oprah is the worst and so are her fans Yup, just a bunch of mindless idiots who follow her. She is so horrible.

Magic Johnson is allegedly interested in buying the team. To be honest this whole thing has gone full retard. Everyone knew Sterling was a POS before this and like Hurl said, there are equivalent racist things happening all over pro sports that no one seems to care.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't get why people are still protesting, and why companies are blacking out their advertisements at the game? Was this not an isolated incident which has been taken care of or did I miss something? These sort of movements where everyone jumps on board are really annoying, but nobody cares 2 weeks from now... The NBA did the right thing, now lets move on lol @ oprah "i do not get myself involved in politics" few years later.. becomes the lead horse in endorsing Obama.
