Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Baltimore = 2nd worst pitching in MLB (ERA) and 2nd best offense (OPS)... either we need our pitchers to shut down their offense or our hitters to have a field day on their pitching. How can they be winning as much with such a bad era? You would think their record has to come down some with pitching like that. Hope we pitch well this series.

Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Dickey needs a solid effort, if he pitches like last years Dickey it will have a ripple effect for the next 2 games with the Baltimore Hitters.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Dickey need to be the ace we thought we signed, simple as that.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 this series seems eerily familar to the season where we were in 1st place with a 30-15 record or something, went to boston for a statement series and got absolutely destroyed 0-3.... pessimism aside i'm going to watch every game and hope to god we can at least make it competitive. i really don't want to lose in 2/3 blowout games, especially the way the O's have been playing lately
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The Jays are going to wipe the floor with thr BlackBirds! Booyah! Finally some Optimism. Spanky knows!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Have to? Why? 6-4 would be just fine. Hitting the ASB even 2 games over .500 would be good. They start a 10-game home stand out of the break with 4 v Houston. Things are starting to look good. Every game isn't life and death. Just a reminder, the 1989 Jays that climbed out of a 12-24 hole to reach .500 at 36-36 and go on to win the division did drop 4 straight to drop to 36-40 after reaching .500. Kirk, I think I owe you an apology. I'm pretty sure I called your comparison to '89 stupid at one point but I am kind of seeing the similarities.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 As someone said above me, it's all about Dickey. We NEED him to pitch well tomorrow because if we're going to have a chance, we need him to pitch like he should. Also it would be nice if Jose showed up.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Chris Davis is a stud, but can he slug .720 for a whole year? McLouth and Machado also not quite this good. No reason to believe Machado won't keep this up. I agree that McLouth is playing WAAAAY over his head though.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 No reason to believe Machado won't keep this up. I agree that McLouth is playing WAAAAY over his head though. Absolutely agree! I think Davis will come down a bit because it take a special guy to slug like that all year. But Machado I can see being this kind of player and the McLouth is likely not to keep it up but you never know.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 McLouth and Machado also not quite this good. Machado is legit.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 People around here act like the O's are invincible. We literally should of won every series we faced them this season, of course we didn't but thats when we were playing like s***
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 At this point I think the Jays are out of "the must win games/series". People are just going way to far with this bad start stuff. The Jays are only 1 game under .500 and still 91 games left to play. Only 7.5 games back of the division and 5 games back of the wild card. This team just needs to play solid ball the rest of the way and things will take care of themselves. That being said, I have confidence in this team and I expect them to win this series. The win streak will continue.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The Jays need to keep winning games one at a time, and not think about the next 10 or next month. If they get a good pitching performance, they can win. If the pitching can continue and keep Chris Davis without a homer, then they can sweep Baltimore. Baltimore is throwing out Hammel, Gonzalez, Garcia (or Britton). If we can score to those guys' capabilities, then we can sweep. And then Tampa is using Hernandez and Hellickson in the next series, that could be an easy 2/3. The Jays are good again guys, let's stop acting like they'd be lucky to tread water! Exactly this. f***ing people on here act like the Orioles are the 1927 Yankees for f*** sakes. I bet the same people weren't feeling too good about going into Texas for four games either. Get your positive thinking caps on you bozos!!

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 To you and everyone else: Machado is an extremely talented player, but isn't quite this good. He's not hitting 70 doubles with a .373 BABIP, and his lack of walks may catch up to him a bit. Still a great player, but you can't count on a 131 wRC+ ROS. Don't forget that he is only 20 years old. I think that yes his BABIP will normalize, but he will also improve his hitting ability.

Not quite this good, but even if he regresses, he's still having a pretty ridiculous season at only 20 f***ing years old. Plus, 24% LD%. .368 wOBA. Dude is legit.

backontop Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 That terrible April has been amended with the present 8 game winning streak! No we will not be haunted by it anymore. IMO, instead of the Blue Jays having an easy time in 2013 with a 10 game lead in the AL East like would have been the case on Labor Day, we will come back gradually and rest in first place on Labor Day but need to battle the two "B" teams, Balt & BOS, for first place during September. The Blue Jays look like the class of the American League East. There was almost no place for error Metallijay, but are 8 game winning streak has changed things. And who knows, it may be a 10 or record breaking 21 game winning streak! Wouldn't that be something. One thing for sure, are pitching is too good to allow another prolonged slump like we had in April, so brighter days ONLY are ahead!
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Anyone know why we arent just skipping Wang's start with the off day?
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Why would we? Give everyone extra day rest instead of avoiding an extra day rest and skip a starter that may hurt us in his next start.

If we lose 4 to boston, and go 6-4,we'll probably end up being more than 7 games behind the division leader. Two games above .500 at AS break is not a goal jay fans should strive for. And that 1989 team had Cito taking over at the helm and eventually captured TWO WS championships. it's almost imperative that the jays sweep boston and go 7-3 the next 10 games. GO JAYS GO !! CLAP CLAP CLAP !
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Why would we? Giving starters an extra days rest doesn't really do anything
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 So far he has been great, and i don't suppose you suggest switching to 4 man rotation so the other option right now is Jenkins. I wouldn't risk bringing RR up any time soon. EDIT: BTW, quite a few Yankees fans are kicking themselves cause they let him go without giving him a shot like we did.

He wasnt good in the ChiSox games and was quite lucky to only give up 5 runs over 7. The Rangers series im counting as a wash since they werent able to hit anyone. Regardless any junk baller can luck his way through a good start or two, it's foolish though to go out and pray for the best when we dont have to. Im not suggesting a 4 man rotation, just skip someone's start on a off day if we dont have a viable 5th option, which Wang or Jenkins arent. But yes, Jenkins should be pitching over Wang if it comes down to it.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Anyone know why we arent just skipping Wang's start with the off day? Because this team may very well need him for the rest of the season. He has pitched well and they need to keep rolling him out there until he proves otherwise.

Hope when morrow comes back he'll be used as a long relief guy, don't want him in any other role.

But yes, Jenkins should be pitching over Wang if it comes down to it. Wang has been "lucky" even when he was winning 19 games with the Yankees, that's just the way he pitches, he gives lots of ground balls and let his defense handle the rest. He's also a veteran that been there long enough not to freak out in those situations and he has proved (so far) that he can handle being a starter. Would i prefer him to just strike out or ground out 27 out of 27? Sure. But that's not who he is, he will sink the ball, give alot of singles, pitch deep into the game and keep your team in the game long enough that you can actually win it.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Stop f***ing worrying about a game 5 days from now. Tonight is the only one that you should be looking forward to. Its ridiculous
