z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Shame we don't use the old board, would be fun pulling up pre-season quotes on Lind. I actually went back to the old board for a larf (didn't post or anything). About 50% of the threads were started by Sempai and most of the others by other trolls. We really should make an effort to ensure new people who are looking to actually talk baseball can find this place. The lack of thread spamming alone is wonderful.

How the f*** did that happen? I have a question, is his .396 BABIP not a concern? Also the fact that his last 30 days are what put him here..... with a .493 BABIP in his last 25 games?
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 LOL........now you've done it. Jumping the gun a little early, no? That BABIP of 396 isn't sustainable, I'm certainly enjoying this Adam Lind though. Jay while I suspect his BABIP will come down when defenses start adjusting to his all fields approach ,I do believe it will remain high foe exactly that reason . Easier to defense a pull hitter than a guy who uses the whole field . He also seems to have a better 2 strike approach . Long as he keeps hitting this way i expect a higher than normal BABIP
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 A fair number of his hits being singles 10 feet over the heads of infielders helps too.

Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I'm pretty sure the only reason DM is till with this team is because of Bautista and Edwin... if not for those two it would be an instant firing. It's pretty hard to fire a guy after he had a hand in creating two the best power hitters baseball.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 http://bluejays.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/425426.jpg Why is Wang's name pronounced Wong? I really want to have another Wiener name on our pitching staff.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Don't bring logic into this! lol but seriously, is his .493 BABIP (so almost 1 hit drops in 2 balls batted in play) in his blazing hot month of 25 games is not a point of concern at all, nor is it an indication that we should sell as high as possible on him before he crashes back down to earth? I mean I know this isn't the best comp. but James Loney had a month of .400 BABIP and when that dropped he's really taken a hit to his average, and therefore productivity (From .360+ to now .307 I believe)

He's squaring everything up, and when it's inside he's pulling it hard, when it's over the middle he's hitting it on the nose, when it's outside he's slicing it perfectly. The guy is f***ing locked in... is he able to keep it up? I have no idea.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 but a BABIP nearing .400 does not seem crazy for Lind right now Yes, it does. For anyone. Since 1980, there have only been two seasons of .400+ BABIP, discounting Jhonny Peralta's 60 games this year. Jose Hernandez and Manny Ramirez. It's possible but it'd be kinda crazy. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=1980&ind=1&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=14,d Can we just take a moment to realize that Barry Bonds hit .328 on a .266 BABIP?

But the fact that among all active players, the highest BABIP in an active career is .366 along with the fact that there are only 10 players with a BABIP north of .350 in their career probably means that Lind is going to crash down. Lets hope it's after the deadline though, and we sell high
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I didnt read any responses to thread.. Someone else prob said it. But two words: "sell high". If possible of course.

Lets hope it's after the deadline though, and we sell high His BABIP retreating doesn't mean he'll crash and burn. In 2008/2009 when he was last "right", his BABIP was around .320. That's probably a reasonable number for him when he's using the whole field. Just because he's higher than that right now doesn't mean he has to be lower later. He is just as likely to put in a BABIP around .320 for the remaining games this year, which would be fantastic for us (and probably drop him into the .340 range on the season).

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 If he has any value, he should be sold. AA has been bitten once already by Lind. ZiPS and Streamer have Lind finishing around a 135 wRC+ FWIW.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Yeah, but only about 115 ROS. That's still a pretty good hitter. I don't really think you'd get much for him anyway, and his option is suddenly quite reasonable.

Yeah but in the bulk of the action, where he's been able to hit many homers and drive in runs, his BABIP is close to .500! His .396 BABIP is taking in the fact that April he owned an average BABIP of .275, which really shows you how much this run of the last few games have really taken the spotlight for him. If he ends up like Loney is right now, a regressing BABIP but still playing really well, I'd be fine (if we were keeping him). We'll see about that though, Loney's been having a lot of 0/4 nights and his average is only dipping. But as for Lind, he should be fine if the BABIP regresses, he'll be back to being a decent 5/6 hitter that can still probably hit 20 bombs and walk a lot while keeping a high .290 average... that's just me though
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I don't think you're going to get much of anything for Lind since he is seen as a platoon DH.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I don't think you're going to get much of anything for Lind since he is seen as a platoon DH. Yeah, selling probably isn't an option. I doubt any GM would be interested in acquiring Lind on his own.

Yeah, selling probably isn't an option. I doubt any GM would be interested in acquiring Lind on his own. Lind + Jannsen package. Someone out there will be interested in a hot hitting 1B with an option + a lethal closer. Brewers maybe?

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 It looks like Gibby is going to start playing him every day now, so the numbers will eventually come down.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 What are you hoping to get back for that? A decent starter or a good position player maybe? It would be incredible if we throw Arencibia into the package for Janssen + Lind for Lucroy and someone....
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Edwin looking good at 3rd gives us far more options in a switch.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 No, when Lawrie's back it's his position, barnone. Obviously. It is nice to know that E3 can capably handle the position, though.
