GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Another Rajai supporter, great! take a number and wait over there #ReggieforMayor No, but the fact that you don't realize the value he brings is kinda sad.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I like Davis. When he reaches base unlike Gose he doesn't waste time to steal second. Plus he can hit a lot better then Gose. We hired Tim Raines to teach Gose how to steal bases, was that yet another waste of money?
StevieRay Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 wtf is this? didn't he just get a game winning hit yesterday?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 wtf is this? didn't he just get a game winning hit yesterday? It was posted a little before he got the game winner, so I'm sure that foot tasted really nice.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Holy crap, you were there too? O.O I think Rajai, Eric Thames, Marc Rzepcyznski, and someone else were the ones signing autographs there. Yup. I have a photo with Casey Janssen. I joked with Casey that they had to try & get Jo Jo Reyes a win that season. Casey said they were trying. At that point in the season , he had still not won a game for the Jays. Eric Thames was cool too. Rajai said he loved stealing bases. They played the Astros that day & won. The funny thing is that it was JR Jays Saturday, & Jo Jo Reyes & Brett Cecil were signing autographs for kids during the pre game festivities. I forbid my daughter from getting a Jo Jo Reyes autograph because I thought that kids at her school would laugh at her when they realized what a poor baseball player he was. The Jays camp events are very good value.

My dad made a joke to Eric Thames about his never-stopping smiles, and the Jays were very nice all around. Is that thing happening again this year?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Rajai's splits v/ LHP career .292/.351/.420 He's pretty damn good in a platoon role. He's fine...but I just think that guys like him that have some wheels and can hit lefties are a dime a dozen and there are plenty that can play better D (Barnes, Gentry, Pollock, Denorfia, E. Young, Maxwell). If you can get anything for Rajai, move him at the deadline. If not, look at getting a league min version of him
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 If davis was making 15 mil per year and holding down a regular spot, then whining about him would be justified.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 For some reason I was not a fan of Davis in March, but since he has shown that he can hit, and I get excited when he is on first, because unlike Gose he has the balls to steal on the first pitch, he is fun to watch! If we sell Johnson, Bureley, and Cabreaa (sorry my french not that good) in July we have nothing lost with Davis in left field.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I think I owe M. Wilner an apology. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW DUMB BLUE JAYS FANS ARE!!!!!!!!!! I assumed that you fans were intelligent like Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Chicago fans, but I guess those fans have died off. No wonder Rogers is laughing.

Everett Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Anyone really surprised at how high pitched Rajai Davis' voice is? I always thought he would be more like Bubba from Forrest Gump. Rasmus meets Rajai!

It was in May 2011, so maybe they will have it later this year. Parks Canada sponsored the 2011 event, so maybe it will be cancelled with federal government budget cuts?
Iluvbjs Verified Member Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Yeah f***, Rajai is actually a pretty f***ing good bench player to have. He can get on base decently enough and when he does, he automatically causes problems for the opposing pitcher. His classic first to third base stealing is invaluable from a bench player. In late inning situation when you're down by a run and a guy who is an average runner gets on, having a guy like Rajai to pinch run is f***ing amazing. He kinda annoys me sometimes with his streakiness, but hey, that's why he's a platoon guy. I find he is the very least of this teams problems and if I were running a team, he could be a platoon/bench guy any day, anywhere, any f***ing time.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 hopefully it's not the Jays that sign that contract obviously this thread bites me in the ass, give a guy enough ab's eventually he will hit a ball. even a broken clock is right twice a day It wouldn't be the first time Rajai Davis was responsible for winning a game with either a key hit or dominant base running late in a close game.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 There's a lot of Rajai Davis fairweather fans here. I remember people were s***ing all over him last year when he spent most of the year batting .230 and was badly mismanaged. Now the consensus is that he's a useful contributor to the club and everyone loves him because he's actually being used most often in the situations he excels in. Whether he does something boneheaded or spectacular I enjoy watching him. He makes the game interesting. His pure fearlessness on the basepaths is a throwback to the 1980's, except he's not high on cocaine (presumably).
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I like his energy. Seems like a happy dude who is just happy to be on the team. A refreshing break from the angry, entitled children having tantrums and pouting every other game. Besides, a guy with a career OPS of .770 against LHP with average OF defense, and great speed, is a welcome addition to any bench. Not sure why that is hard to see. The qualities that you want in a 4th OF are: A guy who accepts his role as a bench player. (He does). A guy who has limited potential, that isn't being lost as a result of not being able to play everyday. (He's not getting any better). A guy who has a specialized skillset. You don't want a guy that has zero competitive advantages over Rasmus, Bautista and Cabrera. (speed, and ability to hit vs LHP) A guy who isn't going to demand too much money (It's not cheap for a bench player, but not unreasonable either.)
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Hey, what's goin' on in here guise?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Hey, what's goin' on in here guise? Quite possibly the greatest bump of all time. Amazing job, sir.
Shogun89 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 They really need to extend Rajai. Quite the useful player. Everything you'd want in a bench player. Great at two important things: stealing bases, hitting lefties. And has good makeup, is willing to accept a bench role but can start everyday for a couple weeks if needed and not be exposed. Yes but not too long term. He's 32 and how much longer will his best asset (speed) last?
admin Site Manager Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Two more years plus an option? I think he can stay pretty fast over that. I'm not big on speed guys, but he seems like he will age well. I'm sure he'll be pretty good for atleast a couple more years.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Zero chance. With the slim CF market, even a speedy LF like Rajai will get overpaid. I'm not kidding when I say that he'll get 2-years and 16 + million dollars.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Davis will get paid by some team.... But it we can get him back for 2/8-10 id be pretty tempted Hits LHP and is a world killer on the bases Hes going to win us a bunch of games late down the stretch with his legs So valuable

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I would really like if the Jays can get Chris Denorfia, so underrated.
