fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 "The Blue Jays have announced they have claimed right-hander Thad Weber off waivers from the Padres and assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo. To make room for Weber on the 40-man roster, the team transferred right-hander Sergio Santos to the 60-day disabled list." Source: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/05/blue-jays-claim-thad-weber.html I thought Santos's injury wasn't major? I guess I'm wrong lol
Smokey Verified Member Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I think at this point it safe to put a fork in Santos and the chances of this FO ever being honest with us.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 That 60 day DL would be retro active, so I think he must have less then 30 days now?

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I we cleared a 40-man spot why not use it for Negrych???? AA made a promise to the Buffalo team that he'd do what he could to put together a good team in Buffalo. With Ortiz and Storey up with the Jays, he's trying to replace them, McGowan will be there for 2 weeks and Stilson could be traded or promoted in place of Lincoln or something. Forget about Negrych, he along with Jimenez, Gomez and Langerhans were signed to help Buffalo compete.

I'm really not sure which orifice you're pulling this information out of, but Buffalo had very little leverage when signing with the Jays, the Mets were leaving so they had no options. Also, being geographically so close to the Jays is a boon for their attendance.

I was having a bit of fun, but there is something to it, the following is from a piece by Ken Rosenthal: “It’s nice to have prospects, but the owner said, ‘We’re all about winning.’ And we gave them our word: We would do everything we could to give them as competitive a team as we can,” Anthopoulos says. The GM then cites first baseman Mauro Gomez, who the Jays claimed from the Red Sox on April 8, then sent to the minors. “He’s on waivers, and he was the International League MVP last year,” Anthopoulos says. “How can we look at the Bisons ownership and say, ‘We’re going to pass on the MVP?’ And obviously, he had big league time as well.”

He's doing what he thinks is right (not that I necessarily agree with him in this, or most cases...)

I was responding to someone asking why not use the 40-man spot for Negrych so I said forget about Negrych or anyone of the AAAA players because they were signed to help Buffalo compete, that's all, it's no big deal, but I don't talk out of orifices. No doubt AA wouldn't weaken the MLB club to make the AAA team better, I mean it's not like Thole is better than Blanco.

Negrych began the year behind Velez on the depth chart but stole the job away.

Converting a former short stop to pitcher hasn't worked out so far. Will he be back after the all star break?

Didn't he make a similar deal with John Buck in 2010?

If he did that, that's just... Terrible GMing... I can't believe that any GM would promise Methuselah that he'd be with the big club all year.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I'd bet AA has more than 1 of those promises on the field. I just can't see a situation where Henry f***ing Blanco was like "I'll only sign with you (remember, I'm 800 years old and haven't ever been a good hitter!) if you promise that under no circumstances will you take me off the MLB roster" and AA (or ANY GM) was like "DEAL!"
