KSaw Verified Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Jenkins was up for the spot start right? Have to imagine that he gets optioned later tonight or in the morning. Sierra, Negrych, Gose? Negrych isn't on the 40-Man Roster and Gose has been struggling a bit. I'm guessing Sierra, especially with Zito starting Tuesday.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Don't they need another starter on Saturday or something? Are they seriously going with ortiz for another start?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Yeah I think Jenkins earned a few more starts Option Ortiz Call up Thole FFS

bendera3 Verified Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I was expecting to see another 10-2 game when I looked up the scores the next day and was surprised to see that we won. I don't see any reason why he should go down. He did an acceptable job, let him keep try to keep it going.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I hope they give Jenkins another couple of starts rather than Ortiz. There is nothing to lose since the teams record isn't all that great anyways. See what you have in Jenkins. Maybe he pitches like Litsch did in 2008 for the rest of the way, which would definitely be welcoming to this rotation.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Who else is going to handle the team weed? Jeremy Jeffress would love to have Blanco in Buffalo then. Hahaha.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Tim Lincecum will be in town for two days. Call up Jeffress to Toronto and watch out! Lincecum, Blanco, Jeffress all out on the town!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I hope they give Jenkins another couple of starts rather than Ortiz... See what you have in Jenkins. Agree that's clearly the right move Thus, it obviously won't happen (Watch them option both and call up Ricky again after one more start or something LOL)

I only had time to catch the first inning, and he looked incredibly hittable.

He looked kind of hittable, but he did a fantastic job staying down in the zone and painting the corners. He didn't have his good (for him) fastball, but hopefully that will improve as he gets a few more starts. Who knew the key to pitching well against the Red Sox was to throw junkballers out there? Btw, didn't it posted anywhere, but apparently Melky is having a lot of hamstring issues right now. He's playing through it, but it likely explains his bat as well as why he's looked so slow in the field.

Kelly Gruber Verified Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Jenkins better stay up. Why is Blanco still with this team? Seriously? Can anyone offer up any good reasons? It seems AA has a much tougher time pulling the trigger and cutting ties with position players than he does pitchers. I can see why you give Blanco the job out of spring training so that Thole gets regular at bats. But with how bad he has been a DFA should have occurred by now. Would love to see JPA reduced to being behind the plate 60% of the time at most, and filling in at DH if we feel it necessary to get him some additional at bats. Let's give Thole a look.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Saturday's a long time away, maybe they could send Jenkins down and re-instate him on Saturday? I know there's a minimum amount of days he needs to stay in MiLB, but I think it can be worked around if an injury is involved. I don't see the benefit in sending Jenkins down and keeping Ortiz up.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Ortiz definitely needs to get send back down. I'd give Jenkins or McGuire the ball on Saturday. McGuire has been spotty enough in AA and Jenkins performed admirably, I'd prefer Jenkins.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I don't see the benefit in sending Jenkins down and keeping Ortiz up. because AA has a propensity to keep 40 year old scrubs.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I said the benefit, not the depressing truth lol. Jenkins needs to forge birth certificate making him at least 38 and then AA will keep him, just in case there is an ounce of value to squeeze it. it's how he LOLs.
