Lind finally somewhat focused on baseball . I expect a decent season if only platooned but I agree Welikely won't pick up the option

I think Lind is better this year. He takes walks . He is starting to hit for some power. The problem I have with Lind is that he needs a platoon partner which this year is Rajai Davis. So you have to add Rajai Davis salary + Adam Lind. Lind can't run, so he needs a pinch runner as well. If lind was hitting 290 with OBP 330, & 25 HR +, I would tell AA, go ahead & resign him. Unfortunately, it will make more sense for AA to pay $2 million for the buyout & find a power hitting DH. Morneau? Someone else? It's sad because when i started following the Jays, Lind was a star in 2009. He bragged that he & Aaron Hill carried the team in 2009.

No, its completely irrelevant. You can't go expecting a Baitista-like breakout everytime someone looks good for 80 plate appearances. Especially when he has extreme platoon splits and is being used in a platoon for the first time.

I didn't say expect, but anyone who has eyes can see he is a lot different at the plate, he is seeing the ball, driving it the other way. He is no worse then the bench options right now. Again, if the jays had that attitude bautista would still be a utility guy. Lind has ability to be a good hitter.

Hope the bats show up tomorrow..gonna take around 8 runs I'd think

Man sucks Jays and injuries go together like blood and vampires.

Lind only looks good because he's being used properly for the first time in our idiot GM's tenure. He's a platoon bat. He has a career 0.267 wOBA vs. LHP. Gibby is actually kind of smart and has only given him 4 PA vs. LHP this year, and so Lind is successful. This isn't a "new Lind", just a Lind being used properly.

I totally agree with you. If Lind was facing tough lefties, he would be failing again. No point for the Jays to spend 7 milion on a bench player for 2014.

There was some talk yesterday about poaching Kyle Blanks from SD, who doesn't seem to want to use him all that much. He'd be perfect here.

Not sure what we can do with the huge 40 man roster problems we have on the pitching side . Jenkins has had one start since coming off the DL . Expect a romero type start but we have no starters on the 40 man we can go to . which is why I have said DFA Blanco and call up Thole . That opens a spot on the 40 man .

Congrats to Mark Buehrle for actually showing up to the ballpark for the first time this year.

+1.This was a much needed win. I expected Buerhle to fall apart against the red sox.

I would agree with DFA Blanco , & hopefully he accepts assignment to Buffalo. Jays need some better at bats with Thole. Thole has experience catching Dickey & could be used in more games as a pinch hitter etc...

JPA in cleanup position cannot be a long term solution.

Gibby can't win. If Lind plays every day everyone bitches that we're playing a s***** hitter every day. If Lind plays in a platoon, everyone bitches that we're playing a guy with a super-awesome slash line only two thirds of the time.

I've been calling for lind to play every day for a long time....he looks like a completely differnt player at the plate against righties too...he's way more patient...he's laying off pitches he used to swing over top of. With Davis out there's no way you can sit him, but he should have been playing over rasmus against lefties all season.

Of course he looks different at the plate. He doesn't see lefties. Ever. He plays only in his comfort zone. Its f***ing silly to bring up a Bautista-type breakout.

No it isn't. Again hitters improve, Bautista is proof, by changing their approach, Lind has changed his approach, we have no one better anyway on the bench, lind has the ability to go the other way and stay on a pitch. He only saw LP last year as well, he's is a differentyl hitter now. May as well see what he can do full time, we are not making the playoffs.

Agreed. HE's seeing the ball very well, waiting for his pitch and going the other way.

So its that easy: after three years Lind has "changed his approach". And this "changed approach" is responsible for his success. Not the fact that he sees no lefties, against whom he has a 0.267 wOBA in his career. I'm going to respectfully disagree.

After 5 + years bautista, "Changed his apporoach". Not saying he would break out like JB, but if he can just maintain a decent avg versus lefties, yes, it is not very far fetched. it is easy to see he is a diff hitter. Our bench is no better, we are not wining the WS, so play him see what he can do one last year.

He never saw lefties last year either...but hes way better this year. Anyone who knows baseball can see he has a totally diff approach. and is seeing the ball a lot better then he has.

Yeah. I know there are roster issues, but I really think this team needs a RH bat with some pop that isn't Rajai Davis or Mark DeRosa. Especially now that Gibby has recognized the DH platoon situation. Unfortunately, I don't think the FO agrees.

Agreed, and the annoying part of this is that players like that aren't difficult to acquire at all. Jonny Gomes and Scott Hairston were readily available in the offseason (and ended up signing for cheap), and of course there are guys like Blanks who could probably be had for very little if you actually make the effort to find and pursue them.

SSS, but with the way Buehrle was pitching, and Ellsbury 4-7 off Oliver, I don't see why they would bring him in.

I wonder what the conversation was like. Wonder if Buehrle said he was done, or if he kinda just said, "Whatever you think is best."

I'd have to guess MB said he was done..he was handing him the ball in glove right away before even talking

Adam Lind career:

vs. LHP = 0.267 wOBA

vs. RHP = 0.357 wOBA

2013 (in a very strict platoon with only 4 PA vs. LHP): 0.367 wOBA

Why can't we just call a spade a spade and go with a good thing?

Lind is our own version of Jonny Gomes/Chris Carter version '12.

Seems like it was Buehrle's decision to come out, but I really thought he could have gotten through the 8th fine. The leadoff walk was more due to Ross having a great at bat and fouling off a couple good pitches, plus Oliver hasn't been the way he was last year. Might be time to demote him in the bullpen, and give the 8th to Cecil or Delabar.

I kinda thought that, but at the same time it's so rare for a pitcher to actually want to be taken out, even if they are gased. That was his run on base, and they usually never want

someone else to be responsible for it. But who knows, you might be right. Someone will probabl bring it up postgame and hopefully he or Gibbons answers.
