Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Bautista has not had a good start we know this, he has hit 7 hr's, but other then that has really struggled, especially with runners on. Do you think he is on the decline, or is it just a matter of time before he heats up? Based on him walking more lately there are signs he is going to heat up, or at least has a better approach. He has no hit a HR in awhile either. he is 32, but I am more inclined to think he will get hot soon, I hope so as we need him and edwin to really carry the load especially driving in runs.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Personal opinion - He's just streaky now, and will have some fantastic stretches this year interspersed with some bad ones He's not washed up I don't think
admin Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Well he hit .181/.320 last year in April with 3 homeruns, so could be worse. Then .257/.342 in May with 9HR So .228/.348 with 7HR thus far really isn't far off what he's done last year. Not to mention in six games in May he's hitting .353/.500 so far.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm not worried. He's swinging at a lot of mistake pitches and not punishing them. His timing is maybe off due to his two earlier injuries.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Currently: BB%: 16.1 K%: 20.5 ISO: .272 Preseason Zips Projections: BB%: 16.3 K%: 18.1 ISO: .291 He's basically exactly what we should have expected him to be. The small dips in K% and ISO mean nothing in the sample we're dealing with.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 He looks like he is heating up. Last night he pulled a few balls that were foul by a few feet. His timing seems to be getting really close.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 He'll be fine. He's just starting off a little slow. He actually hit better this April then he did last April. Seems like his wrist is 100% again.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm not THAT worried about JB, but the warning signs, like his ability to hit a fastball, are there.
Darth Steve Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 We can't forget he is not even a year removed from wrist surgery. That is major for a player, especially a hitter of Jose's calibre. My best guess is that you'll start seeing the HR and RBI flowing mid-May onwards.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Bautista hasn't been off to a bad start his numbers suggest otherwise. Slow start sure, but not a bad start. How's having an OPS of 848/wOBA of 361/wRC+ of 127/ a BB% 16.1 and K% 20.5 a bad start? I don't get this? By my standards for an allstar it's a bad start he is hitting under .200 with runners on and only recently started drawing walks. Bautistas jobs is to drive in runs, hes not doing it right now. His average is bad as well, although starting to climb.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Jose is heating up, he's also taking more walks. He will have a strong may I think.

Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 dat avridge iz bad! More so the lack of production, not driving in runs, terrible with runners on.

LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 He'll be fine. As mentioned above he's a streaky hitter, and once he gets hot, look out!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 lol Lol your only responses to me have been "lol" or "lmao"

jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm more concerned with Bautista's nagging injuries. He was removed from last night's game because of a sore back and sat out some games in May with an injury as well. I hope that everything returns to normal for him in the health department so he can continue to get back to MVP form.
