8D Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Q: Has Marcus Stroman surpassed Aaron Sanchez as top Blue Jays prospect pitcher? A: No, but it’s getting closer. I’m still not sold on Stroman being a starter long term, and we’ll really have to watch how susceptible he becomes to the long ball as he reaches Triple-A and the Majors. Because he’s short, he’s going to struggle to stay on top of the ball and get a good downward plane on his pitches. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/marc-hulet-prospects-chat-8213/
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 DSJ has emerged as a real prospect, just like we'd all initially hoped he would. He'll move up the organization's prospect rankings pretty quickly this season. The bat definitely profiles better at 2B than the OF. I think they'll try that experiment again next Spring and go from there. IMO if he can't play an above average CF he wont have an MLB career in the OF. His bat doesn't profile in either corner at the MLB level.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 they tried to convert him to second base? Not sure how hard they tried. I know they thought about it and that some scouts think he's athletic enough to stick there.
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Exactly... He acts like hes overcoming some major life flaw. I understand ideally you want someone who is 6'6 240 on the mound. But hes average height. The whole this is overblown. Hes going to be fine. Downward plane lol. You're already standing on a hill. There's definitely some truth to it, but I think he'll be fine.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Ugh, bad start to Smoral's career. Ya, it's been terrible so far. Hasn't pitched since April 2012 and in pro ball at all yet though. If Smoral is still this wild at the end of the month I'll be more concerned. Definitely didn't come in and take the world by storm like I thought he might. haha
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 For me, this 11.2 IP "career" sample of Smoral's means the exact same thing as nothing, and it will be status quo at the end of the month. We're talking about a guy who has missed a year and a half. 11.2 IP is just so miniscule. Small sample sizes are small sample sizes, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
