Norris so far tonight:

5.0 IP, 1H, 1ER, 3BB, 9K, 1 HR.

At the rate he's pitching (1.08 ERA, 32/4 K/BB ratio), we will almost certainly see him in September. And you can imagine he'll be a favorite for the 2015 rotation.

Good god. He's completely dominating AAA.

Hey, AA's been smarter this season to keep his young pitching prospects and avoid the mistakes from the Josh Johnson trade.

Next year's rotation, barring trades, looks like:

Dickey, Buehrle, Happ, Stroman, Hutchison, Sanchez, Norris

with Nolin, Graveman expected in AAA.

The book is out, he's not unknown anymore. Still can't believe he wasn't in the Jays midseason top 20 on MLB.com.

Somewhere in the Top 10 I'd imagine.

Struck out less than 2 per inning, 3.5/10, might make a decent long reliever.

existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics:

a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.

Seems unique to me. I can't name another Jays prospect in recent times who has followed the same career path as him.

Norris has shot up as fast. Hutch was in AA as a 20yo. Syndergaard did it except it was in a Mets' uniform. Hendo was similar as well cracking the mahors at 21yo. It's what good prospects do.

Oh man Norris is an animal. Can someone post his line since getting to AAA?

Fine I'll do it myself lol

Ok that's pretty good

Keith Law doesn't like the aggressive promotions

Thoughts on Daniel Norris' promotion to Triple A?

Klaw (1:07 PM)

They're rushing prospects to AAA for reasons I don't fully understand (or that I do understand and with which I disagree). Letting a guy go around a league twice has real value. Neither Norris nor Pompey got that in New Hampshire.

None of those are the same, which is the point I'm getting at. Castro has taken a different path in getting to the major leagues than all those guys.

He spent two years in the DSL, got promoted to the GCL for an appearance or two, got promoted to Bluefield for an appearance or two. I was surprised they moved him up from GCL so quickly, as he hadn't been playing in the USA for too long.

They then started him off in 2014 in VANCOUVER, which is where hardly any prospects start a season. IIRC, the youngest player on Vancouvers 2013 team was Justin Atkinson at 20, the rest of the team was 22-25. I'm sure you know that most young prospects spend the year in Bluefield and then get promoted to Vancouver for the end of hf he season. Castro didn't do that.

Then, they pushed him up to Lansing for a few appearances. Most of the Jays prospects spend an entire year in Lansing, including the ones you said above. Castro has already been promoted past it after just a few appearances and now he's already in Dunedin.

He's taking a different career path to the major leagues than a normal prospect, it's unlike anything I have seen before for a Jays prospect. It's different, rare and unique.

He's where the Jays want all of their top end pitching prospects to be at 19. All of Synder, Sanchez, Nicolino, Hutchison, Alvarez, and Castro have finished their age 19 seasons.

Was at the Bison game tonight(along with AA) and Norris did not have his normal fastball...he sat around 88-91 He had a devastating curve however and the only hit was a homerun off an 89 mph fastball that was in the heart of the plate. No other ball was hit hard. I saw him in Dunedin in April and he was throwing mid 90's...may be getting tired but still impressive.

We just had two guys pretty much skip right over AA, and the transition in AA is a lot more significant than the jumps from Short A to A, and A+.

Its aggressive promotion for Castro, but I dont think its anything mind-blowing. Remember that he came over later than most top Latin kids do, thus his jump through the GCL and such isn't as miraculous as you're making it out to be. He pitched 70+ innings in the DSL over two seasons...compare that to Yeltsin Gudino who didn't play a single game in the DSL.

In both cases( Dunedin and Buffalo), I sat behind scouts/players who had guns and then verified the speed on the scoreboard...seemed pretty accurate.

From a scout that charted him his last start he said he sat 89-93 and can touch the mid 90s. Doesn't sound too out of line. Anyone expecting him to sit 94 I think has to temper expectations. From what scouts say they think his upside is a number 3 starter.

Not really related but I remember hearing the exact same thing about Hutch.

Yeah thats my feeling as well. If he can provide what Hutch is doing right now I'd be happy and take that in a second. I don't think he will be as inconsistent as Hutch or at least hope.

I was at the bison game too, saw bunch of scouts(7-8) and tony lacava(I think he was in the second row of scouts behind HP) but didnt see AA. Norris fb was 86-94 by my eye on the stadium gun, but he was mostly 88-92 id guess sorta like what spats said.

I don't at all agree with the rapid promotion of our top prospects. Law is right. What happened to the Rays way of promoting pitchers one step a year.

I'm an AA guy but this is all about him trying desperately to hang on to his job and isn't good for the Organization but he needs to show Rogers that he has cheaper guys on the horizon.
