IowaJay Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 King - Matt will be in Lansing tomorrow.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/college-draft-prospect-stat-roundup-week-11/ College Draft Prospect Stat Roundup Week 11 The home stretch of regular season in college baseball is here and the top starters in the country will likely have just three more starts before conference tournaments begin. Here is an injury-update-highlighted edition of the college stat roundup. • Although Texas Christian lefthander Brandon Finnegan was removed from the third inning of his Friday start with shoulder soreness, he is expected to make his next start. • East Carolina righthander Jeff Hoffman was shut down for 8-10 days, coach Billy Godwin announced Thursday. “He said that he had mild arm soreness Thursday in his bullpen,” Godwin said. “We had the team orthopedic look at him. We are erring on the side of caution here and you can understand why. We just felt that 8-10 days would be good for him to have off.” Hoffman was coming off his best start of the season in which he struck out 16. He is likely to make his next start on May 9 at Southern Mississippi and will have one more regular season start at home against Texas-Arlington. • Portland lefthander Travis Radke has pitched sparingly this spring after missing most of the second half of last year with an elbow strain. He returned to game action for the first time in more than a month and the second time in two months, striking out three of the five hitters he faced in 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen against San Francisco, his fifth appearance of the season. Radke was an impact freshman, averaging nearly a strikeout per inning with a 2.9 strikeout-walk ratio. The 6-foot-4, 200- pound Radke has a strong, physical build with a chance for above-average control and at least an average changeup. Radke’s fastball sat in the high 80s with downhill plane and run before his injury. • Virginia outfielder Derek Fisher played this weekend in his first full series after missing six weeks because of a broken hamate. Fisher had three doubles on Friday against Florida State, including one off righthander Luke Weaver. The lefthanded hitter with plus speed had three multi-hit games in his first four games back. • North Carolina State lefthander Carlos Rodon struck out a season-high 15 of the 34 hitters he faced (44 percent) against Georgia Tech.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 This guy is a handsome stud. f*** you Handsome Jake!!
GoldBull Verified Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 D.J. Davis, after 1 month in Lansing 100 PAs, 2HR / 4SB, 4% BB / 36% K, .217/.253/.359, 72 wRC+ .321 BABIP Pretty uninspiring. The K/BB is the most concerning part. A guy with his speed needs to be able to draw walks and get the ball in play.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 D.J. Davis, after 1 month in Lansing 100 PAs, 2HR / 4SB, 4% BB / 36% K, .217/.253/.359, 72 wRC+ .321 BABIP He's struggling big time, at least Pompey is emerging as a prospect.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I've noticed Dwight Smith Jr. hasn't played in a few games, does anyone know why?
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-hot-sheet-may-2-bet-on-betts-for-top-spot/ 2. Marcus Stroman, rhp Team: Triple-A Buffalo (International) Age: 22 Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 SO The Scoop: As detailed earlier this week, Stroman appears on the cusp of a callup to Toronto to replace the struggling Dustin McGowan. And why not? He’s done everything he can at Triple-A, including what could have been his parting shot, a six-inning, no-hit, 10-strikeout valedictory speech. Questions abound about his size and relative lack of innings so far, but the Jays curbed him at 80 pitches in his most recent outing. In The Team Photo Matt Boyd, lhp, Blue Jays. He’s already 23, so Boyd’s tear through the Florida State League while at high Class A Dunedin has to be tempered. But it’s tough to ignore 4-0, 0.29 and a 37/5 SO/BB ratio. He has an average fastball so skeptics abound, and his first outing Thursday at Double-A New Hampshire (4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 SO) could be more indicative of his stuff. Dalton Pompey, cf, Blue Jays. The speedy, switch-hitting Ontario native went 10-for-24 (.417) with two doubles, two triples, six walks and three stolen bases this week at high Class A Dunedin. The Blue Jays have to be thrilled with his showing in April, which neatly encapsulates the 21-year-old table-setter’s skill set. Pompey ranks among the Florida State League leaders with 14 steals, 37 hits and a .444 on-base percentage.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Jays prospect Conner Greene was on Anger Management with Charlie Sheen tonight. Dunno if anyone watched. I love this show. lol
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/50508/mlb-insider-keith-law Andrew (Toronto) Hello Keith! Do you see Dalton Pompey and Tom Robson as legit major league prospects? I hear a lot about them, but wonder if they might be overhyped on this side of the border because they're Canadian. Klaw (1:06 PM) I think it's a bit of both. Pompey's very interesting - an athletic kid who's put on about 20 pounds since signing and has always had an idea at the plate. Leadoff profile rather than a power/corner bat. Robson was more interesting when he was getting more groundballs. Reba (Toronto) I know it's a small sample size but from what we've seen in Matt Boyd, is he for real? What does he project to be? Klaw (1:26 PM) Senior sign last year, average stuff, good command. 23 in the FSL with four years of experience in a good conference, so those five starts there don't tell us much. Probably a 5th starter/middle guy, unless something changes with his offerings. Mike (Toronto) Any early reports on Phil Bickford (sigh)? Klaw (1:51 PM) Terrible. Upper 80s at times, still no breaking ball. I criticized the Jays for taking what I saw as a second round talent at best with the 10th pick, but the end result will probably be OK for them.

IowaJay Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Struggling with his command. Has more walks tonight than all of last year. Hopefully can get it turned around and get at least 6 innings.
IowaJay Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nope. Done after 4. Threw a lot of pitches.
IowaJay Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Yeah. Just didn't appear that he could get his command.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 So when should Norris be promoted to AA? I would think in June, unless he starts getting roughed up. Let him pitch in AA in June, July and August. There's a chance he could start 2015 in AAA although they could send him back to AA to start the year depending how he does.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Davis 0/4 with 3Ks today, yikes Last about 10 days (not including today) http://i.imgur.com/tq0EXW8.png Two words: Michael Wacha! OUCH.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I'm still not sure what they saw in Davis. Slim, not powerful with tons of speed. Doesn't look like he can hit much as well... And then when you compare him to Stroman, it seems even worse.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Minor league allstar break Sounds good. That would give him the 2nd half to adjust to AA. Still possible that he starts next year at AAA with a good showing at AA. He's really showing improved command which is huge. Sanchez on the other hand, continues to struggle with command. He had 4BB and 2K last night.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Dan Norris just straight up dominating single A 4.2 Innings 10k's tonight. ERA now a clean 0.63
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Matt Boyd 3.1 IP 9H 3ER 0BB 7K He's given up 14 hits in his 2 starts, but only walked 1 and struck out 11. Some good signs for sure.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Are all triple A teams filled with as many scrap heaps as the jays? I personally would get rid of some old dead weight and start to push players up as well! Sink or swim, tuff luv! King and you'll like this Kalfus up to Lansing !
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 For example would anybody lose sleep over losing, Brett Carroll,Ricardo Nanita from the outfield? Andy laroche,Dan Johnston, Johnathan Diaz or munenori Kawasaki( this one not sure of) from the infield? Moving up Brad Glenn,Mike Crouse for outfield spots. Nolan is already up so move up fermin and Mcdade to take the infield spots in triple A. Then promote Pompey and one of Matt Newman or Dwight smith jr. For outfield. Then promote justin Atkinson 3rd,kc Hobson or Kevin Peterson 1st, jorges Flores or Emilio Guerrero to ss! Then promote loveless of, Matt dean 1st, Mitch nay 3rd, Dickie thon ss And there you king, lol. Kalfus to Lansing ASAP ! And if Vancouver needs a star to replace the loss of Kalfus give them Rickey Romero and maybe he can shine there or we take him out to a pig farm! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 BBBB is a kalbot Lol, He can hit and play his position. Already has a leg up on Gose there! Lol And believe I saw it stated on here he's gonna take us to the promised land! Fast track him!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Agreed! We have a lot of talent in our system - you are totally right about moving up players, especially those who can hit. Test there metal and challenge them! Plus why waste coaches and development time of kids with upside in the minors! Like I said other then Kawasaki would anyone of the players I listed be missed even from triple a?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Too soon! We can transfer all the cuts from triple a to the Goldeyes! Going to Winterpeg! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 No problem. What's your thoughts on the minor league season so far? Any standout players or sleepers? I think some of the pitchers we have in the lower minors have started well and are getting know now. Cole and Boyd to name a few! Think the sleeper is a given now who and how and why as fermin assended up the system like lightening! And what he's doing and he seems unfazed by it ! Think what I see is the whole system has shown improvement may be better then our ratings! Add a good draft and we might have minor league system full ! To the point we start getting log jams and the aaa and aa systems with legit players!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Dan Norris just straight up dominating single A 4.2 Innings 10k's tonight. ERA now a clean 0.63
