Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Is Ellsbury really that great? He turns 31 this year and has a checkered injury history with a career 109 wRC+. Chapman is a very attractive dynasty asset and is much younger. Obviously I like my side of the deal, but I think some people are getting a bit carried away.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 dammit, the conversation moved on before I could properly contribute to villainizing Dinger. http://i.imgur.com/gvbhsGG.jpg J-Fern K's 8 over 6 today... FAP.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 It depends on if Chapman ever gets to start, also. I think that ship has sailed, but the Reds new manager was talking about pushing Chapman towards 100 IP this year to maximize his awesomeness. Yikes, imagine a 150 K RP.

Ellsbury was an asset that I was worried would depreciate. I have made no secret that he was available. People are upset because he went to you but it's not like they put in better offers.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I will join you for this. Including Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig twice, and those guys don't K very much.

I can see your POV on him.

TRM Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Curious, KK... does your spreadsheet have Chapman as the best RP, or are Kimbrel/Chapman/Jansen (even Holland and Uehera) up there together as well?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I agree, but imagine if they do end up giving him a chance to start... I imagined it last year, that's why I drafted him in the 3rd round. :/ JFaS, where did Chapman go in BBDL?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Yep, he was on the block for awhile. And he has hammy issues; if he doesn't run, his value plummets. I can see your POV on him. Zimmerman and Ellsbury were burning a hole through my pocket. I had a strong fear market value would plummet on both in 2014. That's the kind of thing that concerns you when you're operating like a small market team and at this point, there's no doubt that I am. I have gone 180 since the start of the league. I have gone from being an all-in guy to someone who feels very confident in his ability to build through the draft and prospect trades.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I grabbed Kimbrel at the end of the fourth or beginning of the fifth, I believe...?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Probably could have got a better return on Ellsbury if you shopped him around the league.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 If Chapman was ever going to start, it would have been this year. I think he's staying in the pen. Obviously that could change if leaves the Reds or their management changes.

Obviously that could change if leaves the Reds or their management changes. Their management did change though. They replaced Dusty Baker with their pitching coach, who had been vocally in favour of moving Chapman to the rotation. It was Chapman who said he prefers to stay as a closer, otherwise they would have stretched him out this year. It would have to be Chapman who changes his mind. I agree with what you said, if it was ever going to happen, it would have been this year.
Nox Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Saying you'd rather be a closer seems like a terrible life decision.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Saying you'd rather be a closer seems like a terrible life decision. I wonder how much money he gave up by making this decision. Astounding amounts, probably.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 He's a poor Cuban with $20M in hand. He probably figures (and rightly so) that he's already set for life.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Boy I guess I'm really on my own island when it comes to player evaluations. The funny thing is that I got racked over the coals when I traded FOR Ellsbury and everybody said he wasn't that good and now I'm getting raked for cashing him in. . I do not remember this, and I'm the other trade party. Why would you get raked over the coals for doing Ells for Scherzer straight up? Doesn't seem very rakeable in context or in hindsight.

Ells was slumping very badly at the time and there was an over-reaction. People said he had become a one category player . He turned it around pretty much immediately and practically carried my team into the semis.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Nice.....Cashner's going to beast. Tell me about it. I drafted him in 3 leagues. I'm all in on Cashner this year!

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 That is never a good sign It has its ups and downs. I was all in on Lawrie in 2012 and he completely busted. I was also all in on Madison Bumgarner the year he broke out though.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I own Everth Cabrera in a separate 12 team 5x5 league. Is it worth rostering Adam Lind and Stephen Pryor, just to roll with the name: "Everth, Lind & Pryor"

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Stretching it lol That's actually one of my moderate stretches. I've had some disgusting stretches in the past.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 I completely just stopped trying with fantasy team names a year or two ago (in case you hadn't noticed). I think I peaked with Escobar_Mitzvah. There's nothing worse than a cringey pun based try-hard fantasy name.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Drafted Puig this year and I thank whoever tossed out the name the ManBearPuigs to Catsass... I am now using that.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Haha, that's not bad. Even the Everth, Lind and Pryor is clever, although too much so for me since I didn't get it at first. I went with the London Slayers in another league without mentioning the homage to the Slaycity Slayers and now everyone thinks I'm a metal head. You did mention it, though.
