KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Drafting a NL only 10 team auction for my friends dad (money league). Budget $260, 5x5 5 OF, 2 C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MI, CI, UTIL, 9 Pitchers (any) Keeper salary raises by $5 Belt $14 Utley $17 Desmond $16 Sandoval $18 Carpenter $13 Venable $9 Blanks $10 Craig $9 Ruiz $12 Snider $10 Morneau $27 Simmons $20 Estrada $15 Miley $10 T Ross $10 Locke $10 Grilli $13 Vogelsong $12 Lee $25 Samar $8 Stammen $10 Who do you keep? He has Desmond, Craig, and Carp as keepers and maybes on Belt and Venable. I will advise also Samardjiza. Projected value for his league settings based on Steamer projections: Belt 16$ Utley 19$ Desmond 15$ Sandoval 24$ Matt Carpenter 20$ Matt Venable 13$ Blanks (negative) Ruiz 9$ Snider (negative) Morneau 13$ Simmons 14$ Estrada 6$ Miley 4$ T. Ross 4$ Locke 0$ Grilli 15$ Vogelsong 0$ Samar 12$ Stammen 5$
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Next year is $19, that was his last years salaries. $19 seems horribly high for Belt the more I look at it, but I guess it all depends on who else he can get. It's better than sitting with $19 left over at the end...
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Well something just happened. CatsAss is building a monster. Darvish, Lee, Strasburg. Good grief.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 and the upside here is that Archie is as good as Stras is... you any surplus has to come from the other players which are not sure things.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I lost Jarred Parker for the year. I had to do something, anything! Now it's time to get drunk!

It's hard to acquire an elite talent and not come out well. The race for the Turkey Bacon Club Division Title is going to be crazy.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I like Bradley more than anyone, but I still really like this deal for cats ass. He's got the best Top 3 in the league. The bullpen needs work and the team lacks OBP, but it's hard not to see cat's ass as a legit contender heading into the season.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Andrelton is borderline fantasy irrelevant going forward IMO.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I have a question for all of you fantasy gurus out there. Would you trade Yu Darvish and Salvador Perez for Edwin Encarnacion and Lucas Giolito in a dynasty league? I'm the side dealing Darvish, and I have a pretty nice rotation even with him gone (Lee, Latos, Moore, Lester, Garza, Lackey, Walker, Perez, Bundy, Turner), and I have Grandal and Ruiz for C, so I'd definitely be trading from positions of depth and riches. I really need a 3B. I only have Franco and Bryant, but they can't help yet. Edwin will probably lose 3B eligibility after this season. Make the deal, or look for something that helps out my current situation a little better? Or both?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Great deal for Cats. Thats a scary top 3. I had him at 6th in my power ranks before, but now he's probably top 5.

I kind of think you should be able to get more for those two (Perez imo you should keep, and trade Grandal or Ruiz).
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Don't see that happening. I agree. I think the deal is a steal for Cats.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 As much as I love(d) Stras, I think I dislike North a lot more. The potential for Catsass to overthrow him as the division champ really clinched it for me.

The potential for Catsass to overthrow him as the division champ really clinched it for me. The way they're constructed currently, I would expect North to dominate CA in every offensive category but SB. Pitching is such a coinflip, it's hard to dominate it week-to-week, although you would expect CA to win K, OBPA and K:BB more often than not.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I really wish I picked up Calhoun when I saw him in the free agents last year. He's generated so much trade value this offseason.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Wow that's a pretty mediocre return for one of the best pitchers in baseball. I think Strasburg could have fetched better talent. Bradley is great, though the rest of the package isn't anything sexy.

Yeah I might be biased because I'm low on Hamilton in a 7x7 but I didn't like the return. That's two deals where I think CatsAss did really great. This one and the Upton deal.

Thanks for the reply, Abom. In this deal, the guy really wants Perez. So I'd have to shop elsewhere. I tend to agree with you, though; hence my hesitancy. I should be happy to get Edwin, but I feel that I should get a little more for what I'm giving up. That being said, I may pull the trigger anyway. I'll be thinking it over.

He won't reach that total in the bigs. Basically probably better picking up Rajai Davis for nothing off waivers or in a trade.

Not disagreeing with you. Just wanted to illustrate how insanely good at thieving bags this guy is.

In a season where everything goes right for him, I bet he could accumulate close to 70 though. edit: in the majors.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Billy Hamilton has pretty quickly gone from grossly overrated to severely underrated. .410 OBP in A+/AA at 21 years old is pretty dope. .383 OBP in Rookie ball at 19. Yeah he scuffled in AAA, but he was just 22 years old - still young for that level. He could end up being a plus OBP guy and a generational SB talent. That's an annual top 5 or 10 CF in this fantasy format (look at where Ellsbury is ranked right now. Take one grade off of his AVG skill and double his SB totals. That's probably Hamilton's ceiling). Being said, buddy probably should have shopped Strasburg. Better deals would have been out there.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 "1. Danny Salazar, RHP | Cleveland Indians Salazar was terrific in the 52 major league innings he threw this past summer, but this is the kind of small sample size we'd typically view with great skepticism. What the numbers don't reveal is that Salazar has "stuff" that's as good as that of any starter in the game, with a 96 mph four-seam fastball and a tremendous splitter. His performances in Double- and Triple-A in 2013 further reinforce our belief in his dominance -- adjusted for league quality, those performances translate to a 2.74 MLB ERA. Finally, we can look at xxFIP, a metric designed by Chris Carruthers that is based on pitch-level data (swings, misses, foul balls and strikes looking) and has more predictive power than traditional statistics for pitchers with limited history. According to xxFIP, Salazar's 2013 season was the best performance by any starting pitcher in the PITCHf/x era (since 2007, that is) who faced at least 200 batters. In short, based on the most granular numbers available, as well as his repertoire, we can't rule out the possibility that Salazar is the best pitcher in baseball right now. He might be about to show it." In short, we can't rule out the possibility that Salazar is the best pitcher in baseball right now. He might be about it show it. Thanks for inventing statistics that support my trades in hindsight, CC!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Put me in the overhyped/won't hold up physically camp. Electric and fun to watch though.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Does Salazar have a deep injury history, or just the one TJS a few years ago?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 If I'm brutally honest, our race last year was likely tighter than it should have been and calling you the class of of our division isn't exactly a stretch. With me or when he acquired him? When he acquired Upton.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 There's more to being a top starter than pure stuff. I'm worried that Salazar will never become that durable workhorse who's regarded among the top 15 fantasy starters. At the end of the day though, it's worth the risk. Guys with that kind of whiff ability just don't come along very often.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 So another item on my to-do list is moving Andrus and acquiring a 3B. This doesn't have to be done soon, and it doesn't have to be done in one move, but if you're looking to acquire a long-term SS and have a long-term 3B to spare we should talk. I'd flip 2014 AL ROY Matt Davidson for Andrus.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I'd flip 2014 AL ROY Matt Davidson for Andrus. not even in this league but http://25.media.tumblr.com/cf88f7d289582a5391ccd722da837bc0/tumblr_mst4vnLDeX1qapotyo6_r1_250.gif
