Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Nobody was dropped in these trades that wasn't already cuttable. Better players will absolutely be cut later this week when playoff teams are facing elimination and need to make desperation moves.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Yeah, next they'll be trading in the off-season! It's pandemonium! I'm just putting in my two cents on the issue. Just contributing to the discussion and raising questions which is healthy for any league. I just won't offer input or vote on any league matter anymore if you prefer it that way.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Jaysblue will it make you happy if I promise to just not pick anyone up? If that can shut down this conversation, we can freeze my adds right now, since I'm the one with MLB openings created in these trades. Maybe then we can discuss the content of these actually-interesting trades. Like how Robles is pretty much gonna be a bust like Buxton?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Like how Robles is pretty much gonna be a bust like Buxton? Didn't I say that the day TRM (RIP) traded for him? Can't be good.

This is zero-sum: You open up two spots to use on waiver wire trash, and your trade partner drops the two least valuable players on his roster to the waiver wire. This is the definition of complaining about nothing.

You shouldn't have to do that based on what pleases me.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Last time I checked, you did a lot of that a while ago. Did I though? It seems as though the majority of the league didn't think so.

Two other members voiced concerns, so I thought I would chime in as well though instead I'm attacked and made the bad guy here. I agree with Silvergun that since we've never had this issue arise before, NJH should just make a final decision. Whatever he decides, I'm fine with.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Ok so the trades! To P2F: Ozzie Albies Dylan Bundy 4th rd pick To Orgfiller: Yasmani Grandal Danny Salazar --- To TCA: Rougned Odor To Orgfiller: Chris Davis --- To P2F: Jake Lamb Jedd Gyorko To Dinger: Victor Robles Juan Soto
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I think I like the Lamb and Bundy sides, and have no opinion on the third.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I think I actually prefer the Grandal/Salazar side, but I'm the low man on Ozzie Albies. I've seen too many Orlando Arcias come and go in my day.

You might say that, but neither Arcia or Tim Anderson (similar ish guy) never put up the numbers that Albies did at the age/level that he did it. 148 wRC+ as a 19 year old in AA!

I've been wrong many, many times. He's probably the next Altuve.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Exactly, plus it's not like guys haven't ever suddenly become a hell of a lot more interesting keeper-wise during September. Some dude named Jose comes to mind... ... and every non-playoff team already has trash they can cut to pick up an interesting keeper. If anything they will get to those players before the playoff teams do, because the playoff teams are clinging to certain borderline players.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Exactly, plus it's not like guys haven't ever suddenly become a hell of a lot more interesting keeper-wise during September. Some dude named Jose comes to mind... There are exactly as many roster spots available as there were before the trade. Why does it matter to you if P2F and Dinger agree to a trade that moves two roster spots to Dinger instead of them staying with P2F?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Just so I'm clear, as a non-playoff team I am allowed to add guys from the waiver wire until season's end?

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Guys, Dinger is currently rostering Jose Reyes, Cam Rupp, Adam Morgan, Marc Rzepczynski, Jaime Garcia, and Jason Vargas. The idea that he's going to extract value from two more roster spots with which to chase keepers is kind of absurd. He already has 5-6.

All those juicy keepers on the waiver wire I've been ignoring for weeks to hold onto this trash, but NOW it's go-time.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Ok, well it definitely puts playoff teams at a disadvantage of not being able to complete similar trades until the season's over already. How so? TCA just completed one.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing but I do not want rosters frozen. Last year some playoff teams dropped who were hurt or done starting that were picked up (I have no idea if they became keepers as I don't even remember what I did last week). I've regretted the Robles trade for a bit (even though Hos was more than serviceable this season) I really hate that he's a Dinger child now.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I meant similar to yours, mlb for milb, now playoff teams have to rush to get deals in place as soon as the playoffs start? There's obviously only so many 20 man spots to go around. Also it's hard to set up a trade for a guy you're not even 100% will still be around. It just seems wild to me you guys decided this was all cool and good and it's now done, there's such a small amount of the year you can't trade, I don't see why we can't all be on a level playing field. Dinger is not a patient man, he moved on to this deal, 10 minutes before I rejected his Gyorko/Lamb plate
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I made you a good need for need offer
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I made you a good need for need offer It was close, I told you that. I prefer to wait for the off-season Dominican car accident season to be over before I make my moves that's all.
