A bunch of things like

- Basketball teams should basically never take a 2pt jumpshot - always either drive the rim for a foul/layup or shoot a 3 (I might be wrong).

that would make your team really easy to defend. kind of like a starter in baseball throwing two pitches. You'd have to be perfect with both because if you are not the other team can look for 1 shot. Estrada is a great example, he throws mostly fastball and change, but he throws in a curve just enough to make hitter respect it.

GS could almost use the offense you talk about but even that is hard if you don't mix in a step back jumper, post play or dunk now and then.

I'd say a basket ball thing would be to never walk the ball up the floor after a defensive stop. why wait for the defense to settle when you can push and possibly get a shot before they set up. 5 on 5 is the hardest offense to run. You can always back up and run a set play if there is not quick shot on, but never let them get set if you don't have to.

You would tire out your team like crazy if you did that. Not to mention increase risk of injury etc... If you want to save clock just don't pick the ball up on the inbound till closer to mid court. Lowry actually does this quite often.

The 2 point jumpshot strategy is pretty much what the Rockets run. I think it really depends on personnel. Like Steph Curry shoots over 50% on 10-16 foot jumpers which is better than someone who shoots 33% from 3.

I'm not saying on every play. Just on turnovers. on out of bounds plays the D is already back so you can take your time. when you turn it over you need to get out and run to take one of the few true advantages there are in the game.

I'm sure if players see the other team flat footed they would push the ball up the court for a quick bucket. I can't see this being a new breakthrough strategy.

- Football teams should almost always onside kick (I might be wrong).

- Baseball teams should pretty much never let a SP face an order for the 3rd time

- Baseball teams should hit their most talented batters in the following lineup spots, descending: #1, #4, #2, #5, #3, #6, #7, #8, #9

- Hockey teams should never have more than one racial minority in their locker room.

-Yes. See Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors.

-Onside kick? You might be thinking of the 2 point conversion, which math now suggests has a higher expectancy than the 1 pointer now that the one pointer was moved back to the 15. Onside kick would guarantee the opposition near-field goal position at the beginning of the drive, especially if they pick up a penalty on the kick.

-Raciel Iglesias!

-Yes

-I feel like the Capitals defied this and look how that worked out for them.

Go watch old Phoenix Suns highlights circa Nash, Matrix, etc.

Again, you're thinking of the run 'n gun style. It essentially comes down to forfeiting defense and outscoring the other team, a Mike D'Antoni favorite. Makes for entertaining basketball, lol, they did it with beep test-God Steve Nash and Shawn Marion but they brought in Shaq and it was... actually really funny lol. They usually performed very well though. But it probably only worked cause of their amazing medical staff. As soon as Amar'e Stoudimire left, he lost all ability to play the sport of basketball (it was either his knees blowing out or embracing his Jewish heritage - could be either). Shaq just stopped being good. Marion was okay with the Raptors and Mavs iirc. And Steven Nash just died.

I'm by no means saying forget defense. When your D turns the ball over and it's not a dead ball turnover you have an advantage.

GS is about the only team that can basically run at you all night. There are so many possessions in their games and they give up a lot of points, but because their team makes so many shots and so many 3s they can play that way. wouldn't work for other teams. Thompson and Curry are amazing and they have another group that are almost as good. once in a lifetime team

Golden State is actually the best defensive team in the NBA. I find a lot of people think because they give up a lot of points their defense isn't good when it has been best in the NBA 2 years now.

*NHL Thread*

Question from a guy who, despite playing hockey all through my youth, has only begun following hockey closely again in the last year and a half. Do fans generally agree with how often coaches switch around their lines? I am playing fantasy hockey and see coaches constantly moving players between the first, second and PP lines. The line does well and all of a sudden the coach wants to spread out his talent, or the line doesn't do well and then someone needs a demotion. A player gets called up out of nowhere from the 3rd line and kills it on the top line, then out of nowhere is sent back away. You here them say they want to see if players have chemistry but then abandon it after one mediocre game. Is this something most fans find dumb? Are most hockey coaches dumb?

Posted

No, fans don't like guys being shifted around, well, speaking for myself anyway. I understand it early in a season, due to new players, injury, etc, but it ultimately pisses me off. A lot of coaches tend to over manage there top lines when they hit a lull, ultimately going back to what worked in the first place, dumb. There's still some good coaches out there, lol.

Then again, if you look at comments from team sites, etc, hockey fans are extremely stupid, especially after reading their line suggestions. GROSS!

Picked up Draisaitl two weeks ago and have just been offered Tyler Johnson for him straight up. Fair trade or is the ceiling really high for leon?

Picked him up in trade or off the wire? Johnson's a stud!

The Panthers have 8 players in todays game from the 10' and 11' draft, pretty good attrition.

That's not what attrition means lol

I activated Hellebuyck in my league.. maybe he can turn around the jets?

Lots of young goalies getting a chance right now. Hellebuyck(WPG), Saros(NSH), Ullmark(BUF), Sparks(TOR), Driedger (OTT).

Petr Mrazek is only 23, for Detroit. Mike Condon is 25 but excelling in his first season with Price injured.
