Looking at the TOI, can't believe penalty killing leaders among forwards are Marner at 3:17 and Matthews at 2:17. Total TOI for both about 25 mins. Tough for a forward to keep this up over a whole season.

 

Surely there are role players that can do the PK.

Seems like a no brainer. Just play 3 on 3 until someone scores. So much time and space that it will happen eventually even if it takes longer than 5 minutes

Yeah I'm not a fan of shootouts when it comes to hockey or soccer. The games are decided by luck and skill of certain individual players which isn't fair.

 

I understand why they need to do shootouts for soccer after 90 + 30 mins of extra time, players are all fatigued. I think with hockey 3 v 3 opens up the ice and we've seen teams score more easily. I would definitely do what the NBA does. 5 min OTs until some scores. Hope the NHL looks into it at some point.
