jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Very reasonable. Solid signing for the Tribe. I don't think he'll be worth close to 4 WAR again like in 2012, though he'll still provide excellent value on this deal. Very nice signing.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Eddie Rosario Suspended 50 Games Minnesota Twins 2B/OF prospect Eddie Rosario will be suspended 50 games for taking a banned substance, reports La Velle E. Neal III of The Minnesota Star-Tribune. Rosario claims he took pills to help recover from an arm injury that he didn't know would cause a failed test. The league has yet to make an announcement. http://www.mlbprospectwatch.com/mlb_prospect_watch/2013/11/twins-rosario-suspended-50-games.html
TRM Verified Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Jose yes. I have a hard time saying Rasmus is clearly a better player than Swisher and Bourn. I'd say go Swisher>Colby>Bourn but they all measure out around the same to be honest.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I'd say go Swisher>Colby>Bourn but they all measure out around the same to be honest. Swisher is 33 corner OF/1B = 2.5-3WAR Rasmus is 27 good defender CF = 3-5WAR

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 What was the last terrible move they made? They f***ed up the Sabathia and Lee trades I guess. I was going to say signing Kotchman after that anomalous season with TB, but I think they only paid like 3M for him. f***ing up the Sabathia and Lee trades are not minor screw ups. They traded two of the best pitchers of our generation and received absolutely nothing useful in return......

No one could have predicted Laporta would bust as badly as he did. The Lee trade is basically undefesensible. They got none of the Phillies good prospects. It turned out to be just as bad IRL as it was on paper.

Actually on a second look, Brantley is really not even that good. 4.6 WAR over almost 4 seasons when you really look at it. Still an awful trade.

Still an awful trade. I mean if you say so... but I seem to recall it was a good trade on paper. Of coruse, I could be wrong about how good a prospect Laporta was at the time since I didn't follow the minors as closely back then as I do now.

He hits A-Rod with a baseless suspension which would cement his "legacy" and he does not have the balls to testify in court during the hearing. This thing is getting shadier and shadier by the day. I never thought that Selig and the Yanks would be working together against A-Rod but I am starting to think that it might be the case.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I don't like A-Rod, but what Selig is trying to do is ********. A-Rod should get a 60 game suspension, the same as everyone else. This whole story about him getting other players to buy PEDs is a complete fabrication.

It's not as if the league hasn't let A-Rod know why he is being suspended for so long.

"It's 100 percent personal. This is all about his legacy. To put me on his mantle would be a big trophy for him." Rodriguez also said that at one point in the hearing, Manfred said to him, "This wasn't my decision, it was Bud Selig's decision." DING DING DING we have a winner!

One person involved in the talks called it a "possibility."
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Seems like the Justin Upton - Cliff Lee thing from last offseason. Too big to happen. It would make a lot of sense though. "One person involved in the talks called it a "possibility"." I wonder what the actual quote was... "Well, I guess there is an extremely remote, minute possibility that it could happen, but...." EDIT - and 2 minutes after I post this, there are reports that it's actually happened. LMAO.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Miggy back to the 1B = +2 WAR Actually, it looks like he pretty much breaks even. Based on his last 2 seasons, he's about a -15 run 3B. Based on his career he's a -2 run 1B. The positional adjustment from 3B to 1B is -15 runs, I think. Close enough to call it a wash. His WAR shouldn't change much at all by sliding over.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Prince for Kinsler has apparently been agreed to. Wow? True?

You're comparing his performance at 3B vs 1B; it's not a linear calculation. 2+2=5 as 3B Miggy is the worst, as a 1B the thing could change. Miggy -14.6 at 3B Vs Machado, Longo, Beltre, Lawrie, Arenado, Donaldson, Frazier, Moustakas, Wright.....In this group Miggy is s***.
