Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Jayson Stark says the Angels are signing Raul Ibanez... LOL Ibanez + Santiago + Skaggs over Trumbo Dipoto gained some ground.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 JonHeymanCBS #yankees turned down a brandon phillips for brett gardner offer.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 When do the winter meetings end? Tomorrow morning?
Jays Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Brandon Phillips just isn't very likable at all. That alone makes me think he'll be a Jay this offseason.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Friday evening, I believe. 4 days and it started Tuesday. Started Monday actually, Dec 9th. That's why I was thinking it ends tomorrow. Looked it up and it ends tomorrow the 12th. Usually a lot of the GM's take off early on the last day if I remember correctly, so it's starting to look like AA may come out without anything. Sigh....hopefully he at least has so something brewing.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Hart won't sign for a part time job, there's no way. Late to the show?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Yes, was he signed? Mariners, 1 year / 6 mil + many incentives
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Yes, was he signed? Earlier today. Seattle. 1 year.
Jays Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Yes, was he signed? Mariners, lol
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Mariners, 1 year / 6 mil + many incentives Up to 13 mil with said incentives.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I see, Mariners. Decent risk free signing. Expecting a Ackley/Franklin/Smoak sale to start soon They also traded for morrison if you missed that

Brenner Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Perception is an odd thing. Omar Infante is considered a deal at $8/mil a season yet Phillips is considered overpaid at 12.5 mil. So split the difference and I guess people would be happy with either at $10 mil/year? So are they equivalent players? I don't buy it, I think Phillips is better and if you compare the deal that Infante ends up with Phillips remaining years I think its an easy call. The only thing Infante has going for him is that he is a FA and doesn't require us giving up any assets and Phillips seems to be hell bent on getting more money.

Phillips at 12.5 isn't a concern for me. I think he still has at least 2 more solid seasons in him and probably 2 more mediocre ones. It really comes down to what is required via trade and I'm thinking AA doesn't like what the Reds are asking for one bit. They asked the Yankees for Gardener, so it seems reasonable they would want Rasmus from the Jays and I wouldn't do that.

Somewhat valid, but you have to also consider that Phillips is a year older and his contract increases over the next four years. Both will be into their decline phases, and you likely won't have to guarantee 4 years to Infante( yes that's what he's asking for but I don't think he'll get it. Your other point about costing assets to get Phillips is also valid, why give up possibly multiple prospects when you can't get similar value for less money and no prospects?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Infante should be AA's #1 priority right now. Makes this team better both offensively and defensively over Izzy.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) The Mariners have been ardent Cruz pursuers from the start of the winter, and one baseball source tells Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com they'll continue to be in the mix for him even after adding Robinson Cano, Corey Hart, and Logan Morrison Oh man, if they signed him, they'd currently have a bench of Ackley, Franklin, Smoak, Almonte, Bloomqvist.. so much trading to be done. 1. Miller (ss) 2. Saunders (OF) 3. Cano (2B) 4. Cruz (OF) 5. Hart (OF) 6. Seager (3B) 7. Smoak/Montero (DH), 8. Morrison (1B) 9. Zunino © ^that would be solid. Edited December 12, 2013 by Dylan

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Ackley + Montero for Santos + Pillar + s*** Why the hell would you want Montero?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Why the hell would you want Montero? Lind's platoon partner?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Lind's platoon partner? Yes. .320 .373 .455 against lefties. Young. Upside.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 There are probably many more efficient ways to get a mediocre, plodding, platoon DH.
