z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Anyone see the Steamers predictions for Lawrie next year? I'm in favour of this projection .344 wOBA, 115 wRC+, 3.7 WAR in 138 games
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Anyone see the Steamers predictions for Lawrie next year? I'm in favour of this projection .344 wOBA, 115 wRC+, 3.7 WAR in 138 games I hate that correlation. 115 wRC+ = 4-5 WAR in 138 games lol
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Apparently Jhonny Peralta has a 4/52 offer in hand. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/jhonny-peralta-seeking-56-75mm.html I don't even really know what it is about him, but he just feels like a landmine. He's been all over the place in batting average, but he's probably worth it (at least at 4/52). You have to wonder about something like signing Peralta, then trading Reyes to the Cards for a pitcher + Wong or something.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Isn't Peralta now looking for a deal close to $75 million? Updated on MLB trade rumours. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/jhonny-peralta-seeking-56-75mm.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 What would you project Peralta at, like 2.5 WAR this year? So in the area of 7 WAR over a 4-year deal, $7-8 million per projected win. I'd probably do that if I though Reyes would return a St. Louis pitcher, but I really don't. That sounds about right, but probably closer to 8 WAR over the 4 years. I have no idea if Reyes would fetch a pitcher or not, but it would certainly be a good way to cover two holes at no extra cost.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Another knuckle ball pitcher? Tomo Ohka - R - Indians Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker reports that Tomo Ohka is drawing interest from several teams including the Orioles. The 37-year-old, who hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009, is attempting to reinvent himself as a knuckleballer in the independent leagues. He should be able to secure a minor league deal with a spring training invitation someplace this winter. Patrick Newman on Twitter To fill a rotation spot in Buffalo, I'd take a shot on him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 This blows, he was a great Target for our 5th spot. Hopefully AA brings in someone like Gavin Floyd, Scott Baker, Jeff Niemann on the cheap for the 5th spot if he could. Floyd would be my target since he's proven he can be a capable mid-rotation guy. He'd be great value.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 To fill a rotation spot in Buffalo, I'd take a shot on him. We don't need any spots filled in Buffalo (for once). More generally though, I do think that teams should take a shot on some guy late in the draft who has excellent pitchability but without major league stuff, and develop them strictly as a knuckleballer.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 To fill a rotation spot in Buffalo, I'd take a shot on him. Actually it could be pretty awesome to have someone in AAA that catchers could practice receiving knuckleballs against. Would instantly eliminate the need to carry Nickeas.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2013-disabled-list-team-data/ Man, look at that loooooong line for our pitchers ... and that was with Dickey pitching 1/2 the year when he probably shouldn't have been.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Smith is a solid reliever but that's dumb.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Holy f*** the Angels are awful. Jesse Crain 2,0 deal
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Even f***ing Toronto FC is having a more fruitful offseason! Just pulled off a transfer for Jermain Defoe, wow.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Holy f*** the Angels are awful. The deal is really not that bad... Smith is a fantastic reliever who will give them 60-70 innings. IIRC Scott Downs had an identical contract and easily earned his money. The Angels have no idea how to spend money, but this is not a terrible contract.

He's looked fantastic for Tottenham when they''ve played in Europe the last few months. I LOVE this move. I'll be at the home opener specifically because of this move. Tim Leiweke (sp) is god damn leader of men.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Nelson Cruz seeking 4-year 75M deal http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/nelson-cruz-seeking-four-year-75mm-deal.html Normally I don't laugh at agents' high contract demands, but this is so far beyond the realm of sanity that it's almost unbelievable. Cruz has been a below-average player for 3 years now, just got hit for PEDs, and is 33. Any more than 1/10 is probably too much. Yikes, he is in for a reality check.
