Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I really can't respect anyone who says "I don't like sabermetrics". It's such a stupid f***ing comment. They aren't some mystical voodoo magic pulled out of thin air, they're just tools to organize information extracted from game events. Like batting average and ERA, but a bit more elegant and a lot more informative. It just makes it easier to spot idiots. I instantly lose all respect for anyone that says “nerd stats“. It‘s like people think stats are out to get them.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I've been looking into getting my Canadian passport now that I'm living here again. Even as a Canadian, living in Canada, one must have a guarantor for their passport application. That guarantor has to already hold a Canadian passport and have known the applicant for at least two years. I don't like this rule.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/players-view-should-defensive-metrics-factor-into-the-gold-glove/ Two very different quotes from two Tigers OF's. Question was how much should defensive metrics play in the Gold Glove Award. Not surprising, Torii Hunter is one of baseball's biggest idiots. The Carl Everett of this decade.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 John McDonald, Boston Red Sox infielder: “Ideally, you judge off of watching guys day in and day out, rather than highlights and offensive numbers. I think there’s a place for the metric side of it, although numbers, like anything, can be skewed. I think having 25 percent metrics is a good thing. When you put managers and coaches in front of a ballot, offensive numbers factor into their Gold Glove awards. I know that, because I’ve heard coaches talk about it. ’He didn’t hit well enough for me to vote for him.’ That blows me away.” mind=blown
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Cleveland takes a 3-2 lead into the ninth, Chris Perez blows that (what else is new?) and trails 4-3 into the bottom. Giambi hits two out, two run homer to walk it off 5-4, becomes oldest player to hit a walk off dinger. Tampa beats NYY 7-0....Yankees tragic number is one.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 S'up Boxy. you in on busting tards as per usual, I am, lol. (Disclaimer: by tards we mean fully functional people without handicap) I don't think the tards on here are fully functional
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I am just glad the Orioles aren't making the playoffs...with a better team, no less.
Convo Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I am just glad the Orioles aren't making the playoffs...with a better team, no less. Shows how f***ing lucky they were last year... they had only a +7 run differential but ended up 93-69. This year they are +38 and have already lost 8 more games. They had a lot of luck offensively this year and still they are already out of it - Crash Davis will never hit 50 bombs again. I don't expect Baltimore to be competitive in the future unless they make substantial upgrades to their rotation.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 That's what a swing of 29-9 in one run games to 17-31 will do. So you mean they didn't find some kind of mystical power that allowed them to be just better than everyone else in one run games?!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Also, this is now relevant. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=25952849 Brian Kenny: about .500 (pretty close) To avoid more posts, I am really rooting for the Indians (even though it fuels the manager narrative) because I thought they had one of the best offseasons in baseball.
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Anyone see James Paxton tonight? Just watched the highlights, he looked amazing. 98 with the fastball and a nice curve. Nice to see a young Canadian pitcher doing well. If only he signed with us back in the day...

Haha. They get a full season wars worth of Manny Mac and a first baseman who went full on beast mode and still rapidly regressed..funny how none of those f***tards who supported them bring them up anymore.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 What are we expecting Rasmus to get through arbitration? 6-7M maybe??
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Is this really unreasonable though? Also in there: "Heyman checked in with three other execs on guesses for Choo - two said $75MM over five years and one threw out $56MM for four." I'd sign up for 5/75, Choo is an elite player. Eighth-best wRC+ in baseball and just reached 20-20. Get 'er done AA. It's certainly reasonable, but it's a Boras client and possibly $100m. I seriously doubt AA gets in on that no matter how much we want him to.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Yeah you're right, it's not going to happen. Instead we'll blow the whole war chest on another over-the-hill starting pitcher. >Sign Bronson Arroyo >Sign Roy Halladay >Sign Ryan Doumit Fin.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 If anyone is bored, Danny Salazar is absolutely blowing fools away again. Great arm, nasty pop and movement.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2013 Author Posted September 26, 2013 Danny Salazar actually isn't fair.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I can't get over the amount of swinging strikes he generates with his fastball. I haven't checked but he must be near the top of the league. I saw him last year pitching in the Dominican Winter League; Oscar Taveras and Miguel Sano were easy prey for him.
