GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Hardly a franchise destroyer--until we see more of d'Arnaud, we don't know what to expect of him in the MLB. Shuuut up
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 We didn't have a choice--either we upgrade the staff and bring in some pitching help, or expect crowds in the low 20,000s. Only d'Arnaud and Syndegard are likely to be sure things. Did you really want to see Ricky Romero walking everyone this year in the MLB? Or Henderson Alvarez spending part of the season on the DL? Or having even less depth on the MLB staff? MOST teams would make those trades--what did you want us to do? Add hitting like the Angels and fail to boost our pitching staff? Look at the mess in L.A. compared to us--we're still in better shape compared to the Angels.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Scherzer's 18-1 as he beats the Royals 6-3. Give him the Cy Young already!
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Since you're so smart, look at what the roster was at the end of 2012--and you'll understand why we needed to make the trades: http://www.mlbdepthcharts.com/2012/02/toronto-blue-jays-2012.html#.UhEp3dI3tVY We'd likely be a 90-100 loss team this year if our pitching staff had continued at that rate.. we needed veteran arms! Most of the big arms in Lo-A ball(Syndegaard, Nicolino and Sanchez) aren't expected until late 2014 to 2015. Considering Morrow's injury, Romero's struggles, etc.. I don't find the trade to be a bust. Let's wait until we see more of a sample size with d'Arnaud before we evaluate(and there's no guarantees--they have Anthony Recker having a good year in NY as well)
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 There's a difference between needing to acquire veteran arms, and throwing away half your farm for a 38 year old knuckle baller. If we had traded Synder go Gio or Latos, sure, but this was ridiculous. It's telling that the board is dead enough that I'm feeding trolls at this point
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 OK..but had we not made the trade, he would've likely ended up somewhere like Texas, and likely would've been a hot commodity in free agency regardless if he didn't sign that extension in Toronto. Many teams are stupid enough to throw money at rubbish (see the Angels with Pujols and Hamilton, Mariners with Figgins, the Mets with Jason Bay--even the Red Sox are guilty of the same issue with Carl Crawford--good thing the Dodgers took him off their hands)

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 As is Miguel Cabrera. Yeah but do either of them of two grand slams this year? Henry Blanco is better than both!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Shin Soo Choo asking 4/60 in FA. Pretty please?

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 That's it? That was my initial reaction as well. Holy f*** do I want Choo at $15m.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Shin Soo Choo asking 4/60 in FA. Pretty please? This could be very awesome.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Shin Soo Choo asking 4/60 in FA. Pretty please? You'd think he could get more than that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I would offer him double that.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Good luck! His mediocre power number and declining defense will reduce what he gets in free agency. He should only get a 1-2 year deal worth $20-25M (if it's 2 years, $10-$12.5M for 1). His fielding has declined further since 2011 (-1.3 dWAR this season), and he hasn't been the same player since 2010, when he hit 22 HR, 90 RBIs with a .300 AVG. He may have 15 HRs..but most of his hits are at home.. his numbers aren't so good outside Cincy.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 That's idiotic. Especially for a guy who will likely be a DH in a few years, as he is awful defensively no matter where in the outfield he plays. $15M/year is way too high.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 And he's also defending as bad as Arencibia as well--2 passed balls since his debut, and likely AAA bound as soon as Buck returns. No hits yet for d'Arnaud either.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Choo's line away from Cincy: .245/.383/.402. .383 OBP just doesn't cut it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 And he's also defending as bad as Arencibia as well--2 passed balls since his debut, and likely AAA bound as soon as Buck returns. No hits yet for d'Arnaud either. TWO GAMES, dipshit.

digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 And Choo won't have the Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers bidding for him, as they are set in their OFs, and Choo is incompetent in CF, like Curtis Granderson (which explains his move to LF.) Where do you think he ends up?
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 BTW, Girardi just got ejected after A-Rod was plunked and the benches were warned. Will we see retaliation?

Where do you think he ends up? Please explain to me how the Yankees are f***ing set in the outfield
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Already have a ton of committed money to Ichiro and Alfonso Soriano, and still have a year of Vernon Wells left, plus owe Brett Gardner a major raise in arbitration. And they still have a decision on Granderson. Not to mention Jeter, if he returns, will be clogging the DH spot most of the time. They also need to resign Cano as well. Yankees also have 3 holes in the rotation in the offseason, as Hughes, Kuroda and Pettite are free agents. That's why Choo won't be a Yankee.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Boston's not realistic either--putting Choo in CF at Fenway would be stupid, and they have Jackie Bradley Jr. and Bryce Brentz on the way. They also may just resign Ellsbury as well. Taking on Peavy's contract ate some of their financial flexibility as well.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Tonight I was an A-Rod fan. Sorry I thought what Dempster did was ********, even bigger ******** by the ump not to throw him out. As I type this Chris Stewart just let a ball go by and hit the ump right in the throat...if that was on purpose complete justice.
